Quick Question about Character Migration

Does anybody have any idea when Rockstar will permanently end character migration from PS4 to PS5/Xbox One to Series X/S? Will Rockstar give us a warning?

Nobody knows and nobody knows. I'm pretty sure the answer to the 2nd question is yes though.

Honestly, I don't understand your question.

 

The little voice in the back of your head, your subconscious thought, is telling you to upgrade because you know one day you will have to, but your conscious brain is telling you to stick to PS4 because it's safer and less expensive.

 

Time to listen to your subconscious thoughts, bro, and make the leap. That little voice that's getting louder and louder will then stop nagging at you.

My question about character migration may have something to do with my needs for upgrading to the PS5, but it is still a completely separate question that seems pretty easy to understand. I DO agree with you about the voice, but in THIS post I asked two specific questions: 1. When will character transfer end? 2.Will Rockstar give us a warning about character transfer? If that’s hard to understand I don’t know what to tell you man.

The clear answer is we really don't know.

 

Speculative answer is, well, Rockstar ended Character Migration for PS3/X360 to PS4/X1/PC in March 2017. Two years (or one year for PC) after the release of the Enhanced Edition. Going by the same pattern, we can assume the transfer will end in late 2023 or early 2024. At which point, that will very likely be the release window for GTA6. And Rockstar won't be bothering much with GTA Online at that point. Which is when they could make decisions like ending character migration and such.

More like by the time transfers end you will be able to transfer to PS6/next gen eggbox. You won't escape this easy.

Be assured that gaming companies are not looking to push you away, but draw you in.

FOMO is a strong, even vicious, marketing tactic that they use every week to keep you on the edge of your seat even though they do very little. You will see the latest FOMO push on the Rockstar Newswire in an hour from now.

 

I know that if I stop playing GTA online for a year it will still be there for me whenever I come back. At the moment you are letting Rockstar dictate terms. It is their job to provide content and attract you through updates, subscriptions and future games, so let them do the work, and stop worrying.

 

GTAO is in its NINTH year and when Rockstar announce migration cut offs they will give you ample warning . However, there is a weird crossover ATM between next-gen consoles - they have been out for some time - and GTAO expansions, which will enhance further this summer. You should definitely think about appreciating new hardware capacities as first priority because that is something you can enjoy, but not worry about anything else.

 

You live in a first-world country? A new console costs $200 to $300? Go and cut some lawns or something if you really need to .

Where can you get a PS5 for $200?

 

They are 400-500 plus tax and possible shipping if you can find one in stock. 700 plus if you use a scalper.

If I could find a PS5 for RETAIL price without committing to the search as if its a full time job, I would probably have already had one. I’m not paying Gamestop a monthly fee for a non-guarantee, first-come first-serve situation. I’m pretty sure Jenkiiii was referring to the Xbox Series S due to my indecisiveness on which console to buy in my previous post.

They should just leave it there indefinitely IMO, it costs nothing, I mean stopping the migration service seems like a way of trolling old gen players not to mention they also delete your old gen characters and that migration can only used once.

It actually DOES cost something for Rockstar. The longer Character Migration lasts, the less $ Rockstar will make from Shark Card purchases by desperate, disgruntled, and angry users that have to start from scratch as a Level 0. Say, a level 354 player that’s been playing since PS3/Xbox360: This user has $40,000,000 in their bank account and multiple properties/vehicles. This user is less likely to buy a shark card after Migration due to their character’s financial stability and in-game progress. I’m pretty sure a user with similar attributes and progress who is STOPPED from Character Migration due to it being discontinued, (Character being stuck and abandoned on Old-Gen) will be MORE likely to buy a shark card then the user who was able to transfer their character’s progress and money to the new-gen. Hence, Rockstar forcing users to start at Level 0 with a new character on New-Gen. This is good for the business, and bad for the customer.

Got lucky with mine last year. Wife got an email to buy one because we bought one on launch for our daughter. 
 

Sadly I have lost all interest in GTAO and play everything else on PC so now it collects dust.  Thinking about selling it while we can still get full price. It’s basically brand new still.

Then maybe you have a buyer in the United States @starkiller411 if you can agree on a price?

Not mailing it as I no longer have the box but if they are in central Floriduh they can have it for MSRP. Only has a few days worth of play time on it.
