Welcome to Ian Melcher Presents: Canon Getaways. This is the first ever thread to be focused upon the topic of Canon Getaways. That fact alone makes this an incredibly exiting time for the GTA web community.

What we’re doing here today, our project with this, if you will, in a sense, is trying to establish a discussion upon the various missions ending in the objective of “Lose the Cops”.

With these missions, we all eventually come to our own favorite ways of escaping. Our own new private Canon Getaway. Or heck, maybe by the means of theorizing, you’ve come to believe that the method of escaping you favor actually IS canon! Well if it’s relevant to either of the following, it’s welcome in the comment section below.

Something interesting that I in particular have discovered is that in the mission “Dead Man Walking”, once leaving the morgue in one of the parked cars, when you go left and around out of the parking lot there seems to be a very clear path taking you to the train tunnel by alleyways. It seems like a very obvious path established. Riding the train track through takes you right by the LS Customs on the east side of the map, and every single time I replay the mission, going straight to the LS Customs on that path, I’ve been able to reproduce the same result every time, which is that the distance gives the perfect amount of time passing, and the perfect amount of evasiveness to let you get into the LS Customs and respray the car to lose the cops.

Ian is the sponsor of this post and project, and we all owe very much to him. He came to my house yesterday and I told him I was thinking about starting a post of my own, and he said he would sponsor it. So now I get to make this post as long as me and all my friends give him $20 every week.

You're literally being scammed.

OT: Just because the game makes it easier for you to get away doesn't mean that's the canon approach. Look at IV's Three Leaf Clover for example, Niko and the other dudes get out of the subway and there's a parked, unlocked Huntley Sport right there just to take. Meanwhile, in TBOGT's opening, Luis is almost hit by Niko and the same dudes escaping in a Presidente iirc. Either way, Rockstar likes to play fast and loose with that sh*t and I can't blame them since it makes each playthrough unique and your experience isn't gonna be the same as mine. Imagine if we all played the same game, did the same options, and same things etc etc it'd be so boring we'd have to shove hammers into our eyes just for fun.

Ah yes but then again in that opening cutscene, they stop at the red light, and are unmasked. This would indicate that they are no longer being pursued and that they have lost the cops! So this means we, together as a time, need to use that Huntley to escape and then find that sedan and switch cars to enhance realism AND keep it canon.

What's the matter with each of us playing the game our own way though instead of jumping through several hoops just to get the same results as one another every time? Next you'll be saying we should only do the mission when it's clear outside

Oh I apologize I did not mean to say “need” as in everyone has to do it. I just meant that for people who are interested in, and consent, by their own free choice, to participate in the Canon Getaways lifestyle.

What about when Niko is in Alderney in the TLAD opening when he should've been stuck in Broker/Dukes?

I’m not too familiar with that one. Some errors may not even have solutions

Homicidal Hipster

During Franklin and Lamar it's  canon for Franklin to drive to the top story of the parking garage and stunt jump off. That's what I do anyway. Very cinematic.
