What would have happened if Dutch died in the Lemoyne Bank robbery instead of Hosea?

I think Hosea would have avoided the mess after Guarma and obviously not tangled with the Cornwall or Native American business anymore. Micah would have been kicked out and they make it to Tahiti or some other place.

I think Micah would get the boot but, without Dutch's idea of sneaking onto a ship to Guarma, they'd all get taken down unless they found an alternate way out of the city.

 

So yea, Micah would be gone but that wouldn't be the end of their problems. Low morale from folks like Bill and Javier who really looked up to Dutch aswell might contribute to some bad factors

Hosea could also come up with the idea of sneaking on the ship. Or maybe an alternate way. Hosea was a smart fellow so pretty sure he would have figured out the ship idea too

 

Dont think Bill and Javier would be bold after Dutch's death. Even in the actual ending they ran away

What the game tells you is very clear: there is no place for folks like them no more.

 

Despite Dutch's mistakes and Micah's doing, it was always a matter of time. The world was becoming too civilised for the gang. The downfall was near the corner. 

 

Anyway, with Dutch gone Hosea would decide to lay low... but where? In Chapter 5 it was very clear that the gang had nowhere to go. So despite a more discreet approach, they'd have been caught anyway.

 

And I'm not sure Micah would get kicked out honestly. Not immediately, I mean.

Abigail and Hosea were together during the heist. I think hosea let himself captured to save abigail and gave her a time to escape. If Dutch was there instead of Hosea...

As in, Dutch being the one getting caught and Hosea inside the bank? or Hosea and Abigail getting away and Dutch being shot by the pinkertons?

 

If its the latter, I think that Abigail and Hosea will go back to camp and tell everyone to start packing up since its getting too heated in Saint Denis, and if the rest of the gang doesn't catch up to them they might have to run off on their own and try to contact them some other way (IE sending a letter to "Tacitus Kilgore"), the rest of the gunmen in the bank would probably get hit pretty bad, Dutch got shot, they might still be able to get to the roof, but with Dutch being dead they don't have any clear leader to take orders from, Micah would probably drop the act and start acting even more selfish and might ditch the gunmen as soon as the opportunity presents itself, and there might be even more deaths in the group.

 

The Saint Denis job would become even more deadlier than the Blackwater Massacre with even more blood being spilled and even more Van Der Linde gang members down for the count.

Hosea was a weak old man, the likes of Micah and Bill would not have obeyed any of his orderers. The split would’ve happened almost immediately after their escape, long before they got pushed into Roanoke. Wouldn’t put it past Micah to kill Hosea in his sleep, take whatever cash the gang had stored, and run with Bill and Javier in tow. 
This would’ve been a blessing for the remaining members, though. Because it would’ve left Arthur in charge. Almost everything that happened to the gang post-Guarma was caused by Dutch coming unravelled and Micah egging him on. Without those elements, the gang could easily have gone back under the radar or at the very least amicably split and disappear before the law caught up with them. 
 

to get more into fanfiction territory, I can see Arthur making the decision to have the gang move north and not stop until they reach the Canadian border. Forget Blackwater, forget Cornwall, forget the Pinkertons, forget the O’Driscolls. Just move out.

Without Dutch, gang lead enforcer is Arthur. Imo, everybody would listen Arthur in Saint dennis after Dutch got shot.

Agree, but Arthur's a far better leader than Dutch and it is clearly shown throughout the game.

Micah would probably be a lot more vocal and would not want to take orders from Hosea and Arthur it'd definitely culminate in him either getting kicked out or him trying to steal the Dropbox full of loot and escape. Either way eventually he'd make a deal with the Pinkerton's to save his own hide. As for the gang it was the beginning of the end the smartest options would have been to flee north or go to new Austin and lay low. I don't really see a happy ending for the gang at best everyone goes their separate ways probably.

Well first up, if Dutch died in the bank robbery and Hosea escaped with Abigail, the one who would lead the others out of the bank would be Arthur, he would have done everything the same way, I still think Lenny dies due to the unpredictability of everything and they dont go to the boat, they instead split and go different ways, this proves Arthur isn't a good leader and fairs better as a senior gun, like Micah always says, he can fight but he can't think, Arthur runs into Abigail and Hosea and they escape back to camp and pack up to the swamp, chapter 5 is now a rescue mission on finding out where Charles, Bill, Micah and Javier are hold up, lets say Bill went north on a train up to woods and is almost mince meat for the Murfree Brood? Charles ran into the indians and is up north as well, Micah is in the clink making deals with the feds, Javier is on a boat headed for Mexico and we never see him again
