There are so many collectibles throughout the GTA series. Some are fun. Some are boring. Some are worth it. Some are not. Some have a few. Some have a lot. Which one was the best, and which one was the worst?

The submarine parts & letter scraps were pretty sh*tty collectibles, you spend all that time trying to find them and all that happens is you confront the person involved and they were like “whoops not me” and either you could kill them or not. Kinda a lot of work for nothing tbh

99 red balloons is a nice throwback to vice city so that gets my vote. Also it's satisfying to hear the sound that plays after you pop them.

Best: Oysters, better than any underwater collectibles in GTA V.

Worst: Letter scraps, 50 to unlock a short mission?! at the very least, the submarine parts aren't mandatory for 100% and only 30 to be collected.

San Andreas collectibles were the most fun/engaging, I liked the graffiti ones the most it felt like you were putting your gang's name out there while ticking off the list.

My least favorite were the GTA IV flying rats. Why did they call pigeons flying rats though?

Because you find them in cities, eat trash, and they carry diseases, like rats, but they fly because birds

I've never seen them called flying rats anywhere else though, pretty funny. Try telling Mike Tyson those birds he loves are flying rats. If you were in Marlo Stanfield's Baltimore, one'd probably end up in a vacant row house calling them that.

The best imo were the classics from 3D era, either packages, Tiki figurines or Balloons. Awards were nicely helping You along the way and even if You didn't collect all the collectibles You were still getting something out of the hassle. I voted for Vice City collectibles in the poll, as these were my first in 3D era and it's a staple what collectible should be.

The worst are definitely some from GTA V, either submarine parts, letter scraps or nuclear waste. Totally useless, designed around something that's not fun and giving nothing in return. The absolutely worst are defo submarine parts as the 10 dollars You get in return is like spitting in Your face. Letter scraps at least gave You sh*tty mission and nuclear waste gave money. Imo You can't get lower than that while designing side mission for the game. Person who came up with that idea ought to be peeled, salted, driven through the streets by mental patients with spiked planks, and then used a toilet and jizz-catcher by baboons in heat. At best  (kudos, if You know were it's coming from)

Honestly I can’t stand most of the collectibles. GTA IV had the maps on the in-game web browser, and GTA V had the maps/checklist on the social club, but I really wish they would go the Bully Scholarship Edition route and have in-game activities that enable the blips on the map for collectibles.

Best: The hidden packages in GTA III and Vice City. Nice and simple. I can still memorise the majority of them even when I don’t play those games for a while and they felt consistently rewarding with weapon pick ups.

Worst. The flying rats in GTA IV. As much as GTA IV gets right this isn’t one of those things. Not only do they feel like a waste of time and completely unrewarding there’s too many of them. I only done it because I wanted to 100% GTA IV. Never again though.

The submarine parts and letter scraps in GTA V are also complete dog sh*t..

Best: Hidden Packages in VC. From body armor to Hunter, rewards are simply perfect and satisfying.

Worst: All collectible in HD Universe. They felt like a work with no payment.

I think 'rats of the sky' or 'sky rats' might be more common expressions.

That's one way to handle cognitive dissonance...

On-topic: I only really 'liked' GTA III's, and to a lesser extend, VC's implementation, the others were mostly "good idea, bad execution"-tier (SA/V), "Oh yeah, those..."-tier (LCS/VCS) or "please god, make it go away!"-tier (IV).

III's map was pretty much perfect for this type of nonsense, and having access to progressively meaner weapons, made exploring the map by foot that much more worthwhile.

Vice City went with III's formula, except R* now (with VC having more weapons than III) had rewards to chose from, naturally, they went with the 'meme-weapons'. The Miami Vice-reference is appreciated, though.
