AstroCadet82
I wish we had things like this on TV during the 2011-2014 time period! But it seemed like in 2013 someone hit the "idiot button". And apparently to Neil Degrasse Tyson we also "Stopped Dreaming". There also seemed to be some sort of stigma attached to both sci fi and fantasy sci fi in the early 2010s. People who watched those type of shows were seen as "People who live in basements" but when "Game of Thrones" showed up the stigma around fantasy disappeared overnight but the stigma to shows like "Babylon 5" and "Battlestar Galactica" seems to persist to this day. Why was there a stigma to fantasy and sci fi themed TV? Edited May 17 by AstroCadet82
Mexicola9302
Isn't "For All Mankind" not just a space soap opera? And Star Trek in general is pretty much only ridiculous BS. Even The Orville while being more of a Sci Fi comedy show, is much better in general than these 2 shows. I just did a complete rerun of The Expanse, that is an amazing show, much better than any Sci Fi i ever seen. Man i wish it had 8 instead of only 6 seasons. It somehow had Game of Thrones in Space vibes to me. I also watched the remake of Battlestar Galactica, the show itself was good, but the poor CGI effects made it look so cheap. I loved Stargate SG1 and The X Files as a kid, but i honestly can't remember most stuff of Stargate, but i did a rerun of The X Files a few years ago. Stargate is just not rerun worthy. Fringe also was very great. I still haven't watched the last season of The 100, i lost interest it got too annoying. I honestly don't think there was or still is a stigma on Sci Fi or Fantasy series. Some stuff is just made bad and seems ridiculous that is the problem with Sci Fi, if you do it cheap it just seems ridiculous. The plot must be interesting the cast must be good, and the CGI effects are important too. It must have personal stories of the characters themselves, but it sucks if it's too soap opera ish, it's very hard to find the thin line to make it enjoyable IMO. The only other real Fantasy show i liked besides Game of Thrones was The Magicians (Harry Potter for adults), everything else i ever tried watching just seemed ridiculous in a way, that i just stopped watching. I will watch the first season finale of Halo today, that show has potencial, it's not the best i ever seen but good enough. Im looking forward to the Fallout and Lord of the Rings series. The Mandalorian and Book of Boba Fett are also great shows even if they are more or less are made for 12 year olds. TL:DR Sci Fi and Fantasy doesn't have a stigma, but it must be made good and plausible to make it enjoyable, else it just feels ridiculous watching it. And yeah there was a dry period in 2011-2014, but Fringe was a thing from 2008-2013, Person of Interest started in 2011 Black Mirror also started in 2011, Falling Skies also was okay ish, it also matters how you define Sci Fi, do ppl have to travel through space or not. sabitsuki
Not quite space adventure but Dollhouse was made in 2009. Person of Interest is good too, surprisingly well-written for a show that troddles the line between soap opera and high-tech thriller. Granted all shows of this caliber have an underlying narrative of some sort that drives the story forward in some way, like the offscreen Barksdale drama in Season 2 of The Wire, but fantasy and sci-fi shows, in comparison, are entirely speculative in nature, which may alienate a large demographic of casual viewers; regular janes and joes that may just want a more down-to-earth quick hit of dopamine watch while they park their asses on the couch and eat their microwaved TV dinners. Often erudite and far-out terminologies are used to describe things that shape this made-up universe and its concurrent timeline of events, details which a more hardcore element of the fanbase will naturally tend to stress and obsess over, which gives rise to the negative connotation of a basement-dwelling pimply-faced nerd that can't shut up about Star Trek lore. But that's just my two cents. Edited May 27 by sabitsuki
Jason
Sci-fi was fairly dead around that time in general, movies, TV and games were all moving away from the genre. In recent years though it seems like it's coming back into vogue, we've got some big sci-fi games in development and we're seeing some great sci-fi shows in the past few years too. I've got two episodes left of that which I'll be watching tonight and yea, I could sit and easily watch another four seasons of it no issues. It's absolutely incredible and my only frustration is that the last season only got 6 episodes when it ideally needed the full 10-13 to really do these last two stories they setup justice I think. Really hope Amazon or someone else picks this back up, be it a spin off or continuation of the main cast cause it's just so damn good. But yea, I think sci-fi (especially ones set in space) was one of those genres where you need to do them right. Shows heavy on technobabble can become cheesy and boring, and cause sci-fi was traditionally quite niche on TV they never got the big budgets so they always looked quite cheap and aged quite poorly. In recent years though with the massive surge in TV show budgets cause of streaming plus the general advances in CGI, we're now starting to see a load of new sci-fi shows which is great. Yeah a spinoff would be awesome, i would like to see how the belters manage the rings and all that, maybe with just Cara Gee (Camina Drummer) as a mainactor and some of the old cast as guest roles every now and then, just seeing the Rocinante crew a few times or something. The universe it takes place in still has a good story to tell. Edited May 27 by Mexicola9302

Just finished the show though and yea, they wrapped it up the best they could given the 6 episode constraint of the final season but there's still so much more they can do with that universe. Really hope they can figure something out in future cause I'll be in for it day 1 if it ever happens.

The series tells the story of books 1-6, but there's books 7, 8 and 9 left to tell. there's some off shoot stories but honestly I think for a spin off you could create something original for TV. Hell we're already seeing them try that with the game from Telltale based around Drummer. Failed Again

Corey, the pen name of writers Ty Franck and Daniel Abraham. I was very disappointed in the final series and stopped watching after 2 episodes. Low budget-production hurt it badly It was a crime to smash it into such a short conclusion Note: My opinion is maybe unfair. Books are rarely done justice in film. It reminds me of the two Goats see in the backlot of a movie studio. They where both in a dumpster. One eating film, the other a book. The one eating film says. " The Book Was Better".
