How is your OLED TV experience so far? How real is risk of OLED burn in?

Recommended Posts

I was thinking about getting an OLED TV like LG C1 or LG C2 for playing all kind of video games and watching movies with my PC+RTX card!
But I'm scared because of risk of burn in!!!! I don't buy a TV every 4-5 years and I want to keep and use it for years without any problem!

I will wait to see LG C2 price in my country then I decide to buy C1 or C2 or another model... I don't know if C2's Evo panel is important, LG said new Evo panels in C2 have less burn in risk!

And anyone here experienced oled burn in?! How it happened? after how many years/months it happened and what is your oled tv?!

I've got the C1 and the difference between that and my previous Sony 4K is noticeable. The colors are a lot deeper than any TV I've owned. As long as you don't leave it on for too long then burn in shouldn't be a problem. The only thing I don't like about it is that its set a high (and expensive) standard for TVs going forward. I don't want to get any other TV that isn't an OLED anymore.

I got a LG OLED55B9SLA (bought in July 2020 for 1079€) and never had anything burn in. That's what the pixel refresher is for. It's just great gaming with 120 HZ and G-Sync in 2160p. I never wanna go back to 60 HZ again.

I also had a Sony before.

Old topic, but worth to reply i think. At my work they have these monitors on the wall. They display all kinds of stuff on it. Steady screenshots, not something moving. After one year (they are constantly on) it had burns in it.

At home i got a similair monitor. Ofcourse that displays moving stuff and i don't have any burns!

Do i think the OLED is worth buying over a QLED? Mweh i don't think so if its just for watching TV and you care alot about the pros from a OLED. Are you a gamer/netflix watcher? yeah maybe OLED is better then.

Yea OLED's are pretty bad for work environments as those typically have tons of static elements on screen. The site rtings is doing burn in torture tests on a range of TV's, running a fixed image (of a stereotypical TV news screen) for I think about a year now and you can definitely see the burn in on OLED's, though LCD's aren't immune to problems either but it is a pretty extreme test.

For home media use, gaming, TV, film, you shouldn't really have any issues. For PC monitors the monitors have a few built in features to reduce the risk of burn in, which is why OLED monitors took a while to happen because the panel manufacturers knew they needed solutions to reduce the risk of burn in before an OLED monitor would be viable.

Plus most OLED screens, TV and monitors, have warranty that covers burn in as well.
