Iggy Pop
I love the Mafia series, and really liked 3. But, I will agree that going full open world was a mistake. I understand why they did it, but... the execution left some to be desired. But, the production values and story were still fantastic. I'm all for a new entry, and while I was looking forward to the rumored game set in the 70s, in Vegas... A prequel sounds good as well. RedDeadRus
A little here it became empty and therefore I will tell a little about how the series can go on. Starting with the fake leaks from XboxEra and ending with the most likely real Kotaku leaks; Mafia IV will be a kind of spin-off from the main series, and will take place in Italy before the events of Mafia TCoLH. The change of the setting was rather caused to level the chronological date, but here is how to look. It seems to me that the scene will be on the Apennine Peninsula and not in Sicily, but close to it, because of which there is a risk of confrontation with other mafia organizations in Italy. The date of the events is unknown, but 1925 would be an acceptable date. The game itself will probably have a subtitle. Mafia V will already continue the chronological ladder, and will unfold in Los Ondas 1970s, in the likeness of Las Vegas and Los Angeles. Hell, I think they looked worse than Sleeping Dogs NPCs Ivan1997GTA
sabitsuki
Unrelated to the prequel but man, I've gotten a newfound appreciation for Mafia 2's worldbuilding. It's the little things like the ability to eat in restaurants and opening the fridge, the ambient occlusion, the changing seasons, the cars, the music and radio, animations like shoe shining and Vito dodging bullets, the atmosphere and the vast number of enterable locations, the destructible environments all add personality, believability and life to Empire Bay. I'd argue that it's in a league together with Saints Row 2 and RDR2. Imagine how much better the game must have been if they stuck to their original vision, didn't remove all the cut content and Take 2 didn't rush it. The game was also funny as hell. Some of the best written and natural dialogue I've heard in gaming, better than GTA in some aspects. Mafia 3, as much as I loved that game, dropped the ball on life simulation hard, with every store feeling mostly dull and non interactable, with many of the aforementioned features removed. New Bordeaux and its surrounding Bayou, as beautifully designed as they were, felt lifeless compared to Empire Bay, which sucks because the 60s was such a happening period. Even the 2015 preview of the game looked better and more detailed tbh. Edited August 11 by sabitsuki icecoldkilla1467 and Ivan1997GTA
