What's everyone prediction on RTGI, will it be transformative for the whole game and will it work for interiors with baked lighting? Really curious how they will go about this. The Witcher 3 is an excellent example of a fairly aged title with RTGI support and it looks insane.

all i know is it should make a massive difference, especially on a game like V that has no global illumination whatsoever. Hopefully its VI level of quality but that may be going too far...

Watch GTA 6: Rockstar releases first game trailer after viral leaks | STV News

My favorite part of this scene in the trailer is the GI effects, probably RTGI. The white and yellow building on the right getting hit with direct sunlight bouncing light on the blue/pinkish building to the left. If we can see something like this in V it will look genuinely next gen.

Spider-Vice

Well, GTA VI will be a whole other level of rendering and a very different version of RAGE obviously. Very curious about what RTGI will actually look like in GTA V, but it'll probably be inferior to what we'll see in something like GTA VI - even because the VI assets will be much higher quality, much like the lighting in general. :p

BS_BlackScout

I'm curious and from the screenshots we've seen it could be transformative. But they haven't shown us daylight scenes.

So in my opinion, there are two possibilities:

1. RTGI is really good and they're saving the surprise for later.

2. RTGI is only for artificial lights and therefore not that amazing in the grand scheme of things.

Spider-Vice

#2 is a real possibility (and would still be quite good) and obviously people should temper expectations for what can be done in what technically is a 11.5 year old game, even if they're improving rendering systems to support some modern techniques. Not long now to see tho, at the end of the day I'm more excited about the GTAO gameplay improvements (career progress etc) and content.

Tbh, if i had to be a conspiracy theorist, i would say that the trailer for GTA VI was made with PC footage...and despite people being so surprised with the amount of NPC's on the beach, etc., i have my doubts that mid tier PC's will be able to handle that, what to say about consoles...

rockstar does a really good job optimizing their games for consoles and getting the most visual quality from aging machines, so i do expect the console version of VI to look on par (or better) with what we see in the trailer but i 100% agree with what you said on the crowd density. Rockstar in every trailer ever has bumped up crowd density and come release its always way less than advertised. Which is fine but every time i point that out people are in denial about it. Theres no way we will see 100+ NPCs packed and doing their own thing on the beaches or anywhere in VI.

I disagree with this, i think the reason e&e took so long on consoles and pc despite coming out and looking visually almost identical to gen8 version is that they spent all the time building the engine and porting it on a much newer version of rage, which makes the ceiling for visual quality much higher than it was. Maybe i can understand not pushing the graphics too far ahead of consoles to avoid making it look like a different game but it should be possible

Still, R* will not pull a "GTA V and a half"...it's an old game anyway and i don't believe that R* wants to make most players who play on PC for a decade being now unable to play on the same PC's they own (putting that possibility, that is, that they didn't upgraded their PC's) just because they made a revolution in the graphical quality...this will not be a waters testing for GTA VI...specially because, even the most noob players might know that they will need to have modern mid tier PC's to play GTA VI on a satisfatory level in terms of performance quality. Funny how somehow people are now so scared of the specs needed to play GTA V E&E on PC. :cringekek:

Speaking of gameplay, is there any chance character movement sees some improvements?
Going back to V after RDR2 shows how far R* has come, but also how dated it feels. I don’t expect crouching or shoulder switching, but some animation tweaks to smooth things out would be nice.

That would be great but i don't think R* did anything like that for the PS5/Xbox versions of E&E so i assume the PC version will just stick to graphical and QOL improvements unfortunately

Nope, just visuals.

For RTGI to really work well, they would have to implement physically based rendering. Otherwise the lighting is going to look pretty weird, with all surfaces from stone to skin to wood to metal having the same reflective properties (This effect can often be observed with ray tracing mods for older games).

But I cannot imagine them going through every single material in this massive game and adding physical properties. A game like Witcher 3 has a big advantage in that it was already using PBR when it was released in 2015, which they could use for the later RTGI implementation.

Despite the downgrade from 2013, and even that 2014 E3 demo, Witcher 3 still looked so good when it came out almost 10 years ago. Such a journey, shame GTA V wasn't 8th gen only game like Witcher 3 was.

I always wondered if GTA 5 looked better on PC in general even before E&E was a thing. Being in the game now it looks really good though it's not RT they did a good job faking it with the reflections on the cars. I did buy GTA 5 on console (XBox 360) but I forgot how it looked since it's been so long. Been playing it on PC since 2018.

GTA V on PS4 already looked much better than PS3 and Xbox 360 version, and PC version looks even better than PS4 version.

So when career progress comes to pc will we have to grind it from the start or the previous progression would count ?

Career progress was tracking some challenges on PC before they got rid of it, so maybe we will have some progress from the get-go (if R* won't decide to wipe it)

Some of your previous progress would still count as it did on gen9 consoles

Since the Mercenaries update, some of the Career Progress stuff has been tracked on PC as well so I expect a lot of it will be retroactive, but potentially not everything. We'll see.

Also be ready to do some weird ones like the earned cash from heists and stuff like that, it didn't count.

Some of them are a bit random too, for example: I got the Criminal Mastermind one, got the ones for completing every single heist (the original ones), but I didn't get the money earned one.

And speaking of Mercenaries, when PC players get this they better be ready for that Tier 4 of Project Overthrow missions :lmaokek:

(seriously, that tier 4 can go away)

Oh, they've done that in advance? Nice, they saved me from the hassle of moving stuff around the drives to get spare 105GB for E&E

Yup. You don't need to worry about your GTAO save as it asks you when you boot up E&E.

So we can keep playing the old version with the saves we migrate over, but they will no longer sync progress going forward?

Yeah, if you intend to keep progressing your story save in Legacy, leave the migration for the last minute.

Awesome! That is how I thought it would work but good to have confirmation.
