loops
you know the gripe I have with the cockstar launcher, it barely f*cking works, I try to load rdr2 but the sh*tty launcher just can't load it for some reason, it gets stuck in this 5-7 min dumb f*cking loop in which it won't load and can't load my game I payed for, this launcher sucks ass to the max, I just wish these stupid idiots at Rockstar would just realize that making a launcher doesn't automatically make it good, f*ck the cockstar launcher
subvod
I was forced to download an offline crack for RDR2 after Rockstar shut down everything because their trash fire of a remaster fell off a cliff at launch. Even though the game I play has nothing to do with why the launcher was shut down, I still could not play. Unfortunate because that could all be prevented, and shutting down everything just forces paying customers like myself and tons of others to download a game executable disconnected from panty sniffing always online DRM services like that "provided" by RGL. Multi-billion dollar company like Rockstar can't be troubled with sparing the few thousand dollars lost from folks illegally downloading games, so they must implement any measure applicable for making as much money as possible. I hate the idea, too. But, let's be honest, it's not the spineless programmers' fault. It's the fault of their bosses, and their bosses' bosses. The alleged "higher ups", referring to so as if they're almost some deity. The dudes don't know any more than anyone else, but they're treated the complete opposite because they're a so-called "higher up". The programmers, the people that actually change the way things in the game operate, don't have any say in what gets changed. But they're equally at fault for the inconvenience like with RGL because they continue to work for Rockstar even though they know what they're changing/adding is only going to add unnecessary complexity to what amounts to playing a computer game. I think there's a ton of folks who know what you mean, and agree with why you have the same frustrations many gamers have. Doesn't mean it's going to change. Best just get used to it and find workarounds when necessary.
Mexicola9302
The rockstar game launcher never was down for me, while that Definitive Edition mess. The only thing that pisses me off about the launcher, is that it always replaces the DLSS file (nvngx_dlss.dll) 2.3.9 that i put into the game folder. Else i NEVER had any problems with the launcher itself. But i sometimes got problems logging into online ingame, after i became victim of a modder. Then i sometimes can't play for a day, in both GTO and RDO. Because both is connected in a weird way. It can also happen to not being able to join online, if i joined online and did nothing in it that triggers the stats server and immediatly leave the game. Then if i start the game again, i sometimes can't join online for a day. I learned my lesson, and now i always do at least something to trigger the stats server, like switching clothes or something, before quitting the game. Well sometimes i forget to change audioadapter or something before i start the game, then i notice ingame i got no sound, and have to quit, that is when i have to trigger the stats server, BEFORE i quit and start the game again. You ppl should seriously try to start the launcher with admin rights, and make an exception for your antivirus program for all game folders you have, so the game folder itself, social club etc. everything that has to do with the game. This is something that should be done with all games btw. Also make sure to have all runtimes up to date. https://www.sereby.org/site/All in One Runtimes&lang=en ppl missing any of that, very often got problems. Oh and of course keep windows up to date. The launcher serves no purpose other than a middleman to the game. What does that middleman do? Gather data and make the launching process needlessly complex from the perspective of the user. While from the perspective of a corporate entity, it's absolutely fantastic. I was fine with using the laundry digging launcher until they shut down everything when the sad attempt of a "remaster" crashed and burned at launch. I couldn't play RDR2 nor GTA V because the trilogy debuted as a flaming dumpster. Games which have nothing to do with some other title should not have their playability affected because someone uploaded the wrong sh*t. That's what made me go the "hacker" route. Otherwise, I'd be fine with using RGL. As for the deal with keeping everything up to date, that makes sense in the big picture. In terms of the prior shutdown, the version of whatever's involved had nothing to do with Rockstar prohibiting launch of any games via RGL while they scrubbed their "remaster" clean of anything incriminating. However, driver and OS version has near nothing to do with RGL. Most of it has to do with how the game itself runs. Running anything with elevated (administrator) privileges will almost always solve filesystem access issues. That fixes a ton of folks' problems, especially those related to modding. For the launcher itself, I run RDR2 directly from the game binary with elevated privileges because I use mods that need file access within the game folder. Launching the game binary directly just gets bypassed straight to RGL, then back to the game binary that was originally started. RGL shouldn't need to be run with filesystem access. It's a waste of system power even if you try to "run it in the background" and is present only to make sure Rockstar, as a company, gets every last penny they can. For those with RGL issues similar to what has been noted previously, just download a cracked game binary if you haven't already. Skip over all the RGL bullsh*t. But make sure the crack you're downloading is at the very least from a somewhat reputable source. Lots of scummy practices going on well outside of Rockstar. That includes geniuses binding malware to game binaries. Be mindful of that risk and do your research.
