Playing offline on PS4, un-updated, in order to just experience the game as intended

So I am someone who doesn't like the idea of single player games being updated, beyond things like bug fixes and all that, because I like the older ways of having a physical copy of the game and it being a finished, complete product. I can put my PS2 copy of Vice City in my PS2 right now and relive all the memories. Billy Jean will play, Danny Trejo will hate the Cubans, no new radio stations, weapons, or cars will be added to the game. It will be the same game I remember playing. Same is true for my copy of GTA IV for PS3. I can put it in and play it, and the radio will be the same, the weapons will be the same, and it will be the experience that was originally intended, every time.

So for me, I prefer the PS4 version of GTA V. I really like the addition of the first-person mode, and the graphical updates. Since it came out so close to the end of the PS3 generation, I feel like the PS4 version is the true, definitive version. However I hate the fact that there are all of these silly online weapons, cars, and now even radio stations (that talk about the future and play songs from the future) in the game.

If I uninstall the game, and play it with my PS4 offline, it should start the game the same way it would have if you bought it the day it came out. I am wondering, would I miss out on any major features, or would I encounter any game-breaking bugs or glitches, that would make this not a viable solution to the game being altered so much? Unfortunately, I know this is the case for RDR2 at least. If I were to do this for RDR2, the in-game compendium would be impossible to complete, as there was a bug making the ginseng and lemoyne raiders gang camps never possible to complete 100%, which was later fixed by an update. And I know that for GTA V, I would unfortunately not be able to see the checklist on the Social Club, which is the only way to see your progress towards a true 100% completion, including all of the random events and things beyond the minimal in-game 100%.

So are there any other major issues or deficiencies that would come as a result of this? And any other info, or general discussion on the topic?

If I remember right, the PS4 version had a couple of quirks in the beginning: deadzone issues, trees not swaying in the wind, missing tessellation.

PS3 is the way to go brother.

I am close to giving up and just considering PS3, I also HATE how when you walk into ammunation, you only see the default weapons in the displays and on the walls, but then once you start browsing all the silly childrens weapons pop up. I really wish rockstar would give us the option to opt-out of every “feature” that has been added, while keeping all the bug fixes.

Are there any other issues you know of (or any way to check the full list of documented bugs per version)? Also what do you mean about dead zones and tesselation?

Apologies, that bug in particular was actually introduced post launch so there's no need to worry about it on a day one install. The deadzone issues however resulted in pretty noticeable input lag, which caused a large enough outcry that Rockstar introduced sliders to adjust them shortly after. If gamebreaking bugs are your major concern though, there's no need to worry as it launched in a relatively stable state overall.

Not vitally important to the game as a whole, but one interesting thing about the radio in 8th Gen V1.0 is that a different version of "Tape Loop" by Morcheeba (a song on Non-Stop-Pop) plays. The station originally had the album version of the song:

After the Heists Update released in early 2015, it was replaced by the Shortcheeba Mix (the GTA Wiki claims the original song remained in the PC version up until the Diamond Casino & Resort update in 2019, but I vividly remember the remixed version playing back when it first came out in April 2015):

I prefer the original version myself, but that's neither here nor there.

That’s interesting. I went ahead and reinstalled offline and I did notice the trees not swaying in the wind (but they do in the prologue). Also, last night I noticed when first entering the car in the Franklin and Lamar mission, usually the action Bronson song on Radio Los Santos always plays, but that time the radio was set to non-stop pop for some reason. I will play it again tonight and see if that happens again

Damn I also just realized Chop is useless since you can’t use the app to get him to find collectibles. They really weren’t thinking about longevity with this game

Cheatz/Trickz

The PS4 version is a remaster. And a bad one. It looks like cartoony unnatural sh*t.

The PS3 version has far superior lighting, far superior colour implementation, and far superior image clarity. It looks way more natural.

Absolutely correct. I don’t know wtf Rockstar did to the remaster, they massively screwed it up though and the game looks like a cartoon on next gen and PC.

The only area where PS3 falls short is the frame rate tbh (but it’s still absolutely solid enough).

Without considering mods, the PS3 is the absolute best version of this game.

Unspoken OH

Call me edgy but I still play the XB360/PS3 version. Yeah, texture quality is ass, grass density is ass and so on but it still has better atmosphere than any of these defective editions (PS4/PS5, I'd say PC too but at least on PC you can fix a lot of sh*t by using mods).

I played GTA V for the first time on PS3. So for me, that was the "intended" version. The PS4 one was an upgrade, while the current PS5 version is an upgrade of the upgrade. And when you come to think about it, you realize how old this game actually is.

Yeah, for PS3 version 1.00 is the best, but for PS4 the version with the first patch post-release is the best.

Well I guess it’s literally impossible to play any patches for either version other than 1.0 and the most recent, right? And with PS3 1.0 it still wouldn’t be possible to use Chop or anything else requiring internet. Really sucks. I hope (but seriously doubt) Rockstar will give players the option to opt out of all added weapons, cars, and radio stations, while still being able to use internet features and returning player bonuses.

Yeah, yeah it is. Unless there's some sort of reverse engineering at least.

I think you can get these features though, I think by either installing the game offline, then playing the game and turning on the internet. Decline the update and save the game, you'll get the bonus stuff.

For PlayStation consoles you have to have the most recent version in order to use network features. If one is available, you’ll get a notification when you try to open the game about it. Is there a way around that you know of?

Yeah, from what I remember, open the game offline FIRST, then turn on the network once it's loaded.

Oh wow that would be amazing if it works. Thanks I’ll try that. I just want to be able to teach chop to find hidden packages

When I go into the pause menu, and go to online, friends, or PlayStation network, the menu in-game says “The game requires an update to access network features”. Do you know if it will still be able to sync to social club for the checklist, or the ifruit app for training chop?

I'll check when I can, I don't remember how I did it anymore but that's how I did it with RDR2.

Which network features did RDR2 use? Or you mean you were able to play red dead online with a non-updated RDR2?
