ChillPixelL
I haven't played RDR2 and I want to see what the hype's about. Though, the only thing that's stopping me from buying it is whether there's going to be a next generation version coming imminently / being announced soon - is that likely? Thanks
Emmi
I see absolutely no reason why there should be a "new" gen version. RDR2 is still looking better than like every other open world game out there and it plays absolutely fine. So go ahead and buy it ... the PC version is also exceptionally well done! subvod
I agree with what Emmi mentioned. The game is beautiful, even by today's standards. Although I slightly argue against it "playing well", that's only because of the bugs and glitches I've come across in the two years I've been playing the game. Most of those are purely situational and wouldn't happen in normal gameplay, but nonetheless are present. I held out for two years, hearing so much good about it. Finally bought it in 2020, and fell in love. Been playing it at least once a week ever since.
NightmanCometh96
Even though some graphical features are lower in quality than the lowest PC settings, I still think RDR2 looks great on consoles, particularly on the Xbox One X/Series X at 4K. (PS4 Pro’s 1920x2160 checkerboarded resolution, however, is quite ugly, IMO. I legitimately think that version looks better running at 1080p, despite technically being lower res than it would be with the Pro “enhancements”.) I could see the game getting a patch at some point to bump the frame rate up to 60FPS (and perhaps also adding a 30FPS Fidelity Mode that increases the resolution to 4K on PS5 and ~1080p-1440p on Series S, as well as bumping up some settings to higher PC equivalents). As greedy as R* and T2 are, I don’t think they would be able to “get away” with charging for a current gen upgrade for RDR2 to the same extent that they did with E&E (no matter what you think of it, GTAO is a massive juggernaut, even compared to the already successful Red Dead. EDIT: I’m referring to SP specifically, as RDO is being left to rot). Like I mentioned, the game already looks fantastic on consoles as it is (compared to 8th Gen V, which only ran at 1080p, never received Pro/X enhancements, and had increasingly frequent performance issues as bigger Online updates like the Cayo Perico Heist were released).
