I'm interested in a Bunker Only for MKII Upgrades. Got Questions

Most of the info for bunkers is centered around the business but I'm not interested in doing anything with the bunker besides research to get the special weapons upgrades. I play mostly invite only. I have weapon workshops in my Kosatka and Agency already but I want to try out those explosive rounds and hollow point bullets etc. Is there a way to only focus on weapon ammo research to get all the ammo upgrades without doing anything else with the bunker? Money is not an issue so not worrying about the cost. Also, does owning the shooting range give any advantages?

I only wanted the research too as I hate public sessions. Once you've done the setup mission you can set staff to do just research via the laptop in the bunker, which is what I did. Some of the upgrades are pointless if you're not accumulating stock to sell, like security. I purchased the sleeping quarters so I could spawn there in public sessions, you'll need to be in public sessions to either buy or source supplies for your research. I purchased most of mine as money was not an issue.

Owning the shooting range gives you some challenges to unlock some weapon pick-ups in the bunker near the range. I didn't bother with it. More info here https://gta.fandom.com/wiki/Bunker_Shooting_Range

There is an option to fast-track research. So you can simply buy all of it. I think you need to have a little research progress before you're able to fast-track, but I'm not sure; it's been a long-time. You could also let the research run and only buy supplies, but this will take a lot longer, and if you didn't have money it would actually be more effective to produce/sell weapons, then use the proceeds to fast-track research, as this would occupy the bunker for a shorter time than letting it research from supplies.

tl;dr: If you got the money, fast-track the research.

Basically what @SummerFreeze said. You can "Fast Track" your research for about a quarter million each time. It's a little iffy, so I will explain; you need Supplies in your Bunker, then you need to let the game choose what your next project is, fast track it and then wait some time for the game to choose the next project and repeat this until you unlock what you want. You can't just keep spamming fast track as soon as a project is finished

Thanks! Looks like I have a few more visits to El Rubio during this. On another note, will all this effort be worth it? I heard some special ammo was nerfed if I remember correctly. What are your thoughts on the special ammo?

Just spend 11 million 475K to fast track research everything, doing it the slow way, i mean really slow would take 12,3958333 real life days. It makes more sense to just fast track it all.

All the weapon attachments are worth it, like heavy barrel, suppressors, scopes, the new ammo types etc. but only a few vehicle unlocks are worth it, well if you like the Weaponized Tampa and the other vehicles.

Look at it yourself.

10 million and you can fasttrack all of it . Or assign all staff to research and spend little bits on fastracking while you do other money making activities.

I only use FMJ (revolver) and explosive (shotgun). Plus thermal scope, mines, and the quad gun for the Half-Track.

FWIW fast tracking is cheaper than research. When comparing a fully upgraded Bunker research costs and times against Bunker sale profits and cost of fast tracking.

I remember some of us went AFK in The Security Screen next to the laptop. I can't remember the time needed to research one Item exactly.

There was a trick to Close the app, If you dont like the next item the Game choose for you

Spectre "2K"

another thing about the shooting range, completing the two star challenges for every weapon increases your throwable capacity by 5. They can be pretty difficult, but pretty easy to brute force through trial and error. Also certain weapons like the assault rifle and carbine rifle can still be the default variants with the 100 round magazines, which makes them a bit easier imo

Ok, I'm sold. I'm getting the shooting range too for more throwables. I have 123 million so fast tracking it is. Thanks for all the suggestions. Is transportation essential? I'm not getting the living quarters since I'm buying one close to one of my properties.

Just giving an update...It was very expensive but well worth it. I hung out in the bunker until all the ammo upgrades I was interested in was researched. The only painful thing was paying $225,000 to fast track liveries. Like why is my staff being watched at gun point to research decorations??? But anyway, it's so satisfying to take out police cars with 2 shots with my revolver now (FMJ) and watch enemies fly from my pump shotgun with explosive rounds.  Thanks again everyone.

That shooting range tho....are they serious with those challenges??

@GeneralDee I was able to complete them in 1-2 hours on ps4 and I'm a pretty bad shot. my only suggestion is to quickly (and I mean quickly) end your round if you are no where near the target score so this way you don't have to see the mission failed screen. You dont have to watch a tutorial video, maybe look at the wiki or something.. It will tell you how many shots knock down a target per weapon and it gets pretty easy. Dont get discouraged by how far off you are in the beginning.. I would give up too but I was like Naaa No Way I CANT do this.. But again it was like 1 to 2 hours. 😆

With the FMJ revolver you can also down police choppers in 1 shot if you hit the tail rotor.

The shooting challenges I thought were difficult on PC, so on console I assume they are even harder. One hint I can give is that if you have max shooting skill, your automatic weapons will have no recoil shakes in 1st person, only the increasing spread with continuous fire. So you can shoot very accurately in bursts using 1st person. You could even use the scope / iron sights in 1st person, which will shake but the actual shots won't be affected by it.

At lease you only need to get two stars for the weapons. Three stars only give you free clothes. I was able to do it on console and I'm not a great shot. IIRC there were tips about changing your sensitivity settings to make the shooting range easier. A quick Google search should help find tricks. Many people struggle with the shooting range and ask for help.

I was actually doing that without FMJ already :) That gun is a beast no matter what level. I actually spent an hour with a 5 star level taking out helis and police cars with the vanilla MKII revolver. But now the only down side is the reduced bullets if using FMJ so I doubt I can hang out with the cops that long unless I go back to regular clip.

True, but FMJ can take them out at the full range of the gun.

I remember downgrading the Carbine to the MK1 and using the box magazine to do it. I think it was the hardest of all of the challenges.

Just decided to mess around with the shooting range again.

My #1 Tip for Shooting Range: Go into Settings - Controls and Turn your Deadzone(s) all the way down to zero if it's not.

Adjusting other stuff is likely needed but Deadzone being off was the biggest fix.

With the FMJ on the revolver, even if you hit the helicopters anywhere, it will start to smoke immediately and you can get a laugh watching the pilot flinch from the first shot. Another tip with the heavy revolver- aim for the engines of cars with it instead of the occupants and watch them jump out burning. Hitting the fuel tank of motorcycles is also satisfying to watch what happens to the biker dudes.

About the shooting range...I'm gonna have to plan a day to spend figuring that one out. What is the main key to getting those high scores? So far I only managed to pass the sniper rifle one. For the others, I'm not even getting close.

For the AR and Carbine Rifle, I downgraded to the MK1 and used the box magazine so I could fire 100 bullets before reload.

I think I did this for the SMG as well.

Good point. Larger magazine means less reloads and more time for shooting targets. I think I did that too.

I usually stick with larger mags of normal bullets, explosive ammo is quite cool though. I think the special ammo is designed more for pvp.

Ah shame they removed the ability to get buy 1 get 1 free on the "research" the update after it :D

Also a shame they removed the ability to use juggernaut gear and using minigun for the ridiculous (R* near impossible bs) bunker gun range.

Yeah, I think my honeymoon phase is about over. I'm having fun with the FMJs but they are really stingy with the bullet counts. So I'm figuring out how to manage when to use the special ammo. I find myself holding back with the revolver with any special ammo. On the plus side, it's forcing me to try and be more accurate since every shot really counts. A missed shot is wasted money lol. I wish we can revert or manage what ammo to use without having to go to the shop. Or they should increase the count at lease half of the default.

Having Explosive ammo on the pump shotgun and heavy sniper rifle in your weapon wheel is worth it for PVE. It's less expensive than grenades or rockets and can take down vehicles or deal with objectives you need to explode, like the ammo crates in that one Special Contract mission. I agree that the rest of the ammo is more useful for PVP, but I do have at least one gun with each on my weapon wheel just in case I want to use it. Fire bullets can be fun to use. Back when I did the Cayo Disruptions I learned that the gun dealer in juggernaut armor would fall over and scream when you lit him on fire, which made him easy to deal with. In theory the FMJ rounds would be useful to help shoot up helicopters, so you do more damage to the vehicle while trying to kill the pilot, but it's just not really worth using when the other options are good enough and you don't carry enough FMJs.

Most of my ammo is glitched so it automatically refills, including the FMJ revolver. I don't know how that happened but I remember my SMG ammo glitched just after I bought the Agency weapons guy.

With the FMJ revolver I can shoot down police choppers and NCP Buzzards faster than with any other weapon, but I guess that's easier on PC with mouse. Like for example during the Cayo weapons prep, I leave the office, shoot the two Buzzards' tail rotors and fly off with my Sparrow while they tumble to the ground.

I been using the minigun for those guys aiming for the shooters. Once those guys are shot out the helicopter, I fly away in my sparrow laughing at the pilots telling me how dead I am. But you just gave me a reason to use my favorite gun for that getaway.

Actually, I use the revolver with FMJ now to disable the cars that come after you when getting the plasma cutter aiming for the engines with 2 shots, then peel out in my karuma to my Sparrow. As long as you don't destroy the cars or helicopters, more will not spawn.
