What I know about GTA VI

GTA VI development is in full swing, albeit slightly behind schedule due to the impact the pandemic had on the studios involved.

 

Nobody inside Rockstar (including development leads) know all the details about GTA VI except from the higher-ups. In fact, until the announcement in February that production is “well-underway” different studios were not allowed to discuss what they were working on to stop information from leaking. For example, a team in one country could be working on gameplay mechanics and another in a separate country could be working on vehicle and NPC functionality but there was no cross communication - meaning (from an employee point of view) it was hard to tell how many resources were being put into production, and how deep into production Rockstar is.

 

If you’re wondering why all of a sudden Rockstar decided to make the low-key announcement that the next GTA was in development, it is because production has reached the point where studios need to start collaborating with each other, so rather than letting an employee who has spent the past several years working on game play mechanics suddenly see palm tress on their colleague’s screen and go running to social media to discuss what they’ve seen, Rockstar decided to basically do the job for them by announcing they are working on the next GTA so that if an employee was to leak something, it would be hard for the community to distinguish this from somebody jumping on the GTA VI hype claiming to be an insider or a genuine Rockstar employee.

 

Having some involvement in the GTA VI production it is interesting to see what the community knows about the game. Some of the information you see online is true - you don’t need me to say Vice City is where the story will take place - but nobody can sit here and tell you everything you’ve heard about GTA VI is true because it’s impossible - only the higher-ups know what to fully expect, but I doubt Strauss Zelnick will go running to MrBossFTW anytime soon!

 

That being said, the more collaboration means the more eyes on the project. On something like GTA where the developers are genuinely really excited to be involved it is inevitable more details will appear online soon.

 

The world is coming to life. If you were to load up the sandbox right now you would see clouds in the sky, birds flying, palm trees blowing in the wind but NPCs roaming the streets, boats sailing across the water and cars on the roads are not there yet.

 

Only one rumour I’ve found online matches what I know about the project. The story will be based around two brothers, one of which is a cop for the Vice City Police Department. The story will be set in modern times and drugs will play a heavy part in the story.

 

Hope that clenches some thirst.
