Do you think it’s canon for Arthur to escape the law in “A Quiet Time”?

I always assumed it was, because that’s one of the requirements for the gold medal. However, I’ve been thinking, you get a whole long extra cutscene when you get caught. It adds more character development and more story. So I’m kind of on the fence. It does seem weird that they would make it possible to escape, and make it a gold medal objective, if it wasn’t. What do you think?

Well, it's a gold medal objective so the game wants it to be done this way. I agree on you though, getting arrested is much better.

yea its weird to say that but its true. getting arrested is easier. because you get an extra cutscene. and the mission ends in town with your horse nearby. if you escape. the mission ends in the wilderness and you dont have your horse. so it is better to get arrested. as for which one is canon i have no idea. i dont usually pay attention to the gold medal stuff as i enjoy playing the game.

i feel like its more likely that he got arrested seeing as how many cops were after him and he is super drunk. it seems like it would be easy to catch him in that state. it would be a joke if he could escape from all those cops while drunk. i also feel like him getting arrested is a way to show that he has his weaknesses. even though he is a tough badass outlaw. he can still get in trouble. its ironic too because in that mission lenny ran to camp to tell everyone that micah was arrested. so it would be funny if arthur got arrested while micah was in jail.

That does make sense. However another thing is, when you escape, you wake up within close walking distance of the train station where the reverend swanson mission is, which seems like it would be the right time to walk over there hungover to find the drunk reverend and play cards

There are no "canonical choices" in this game, and this is no exception. Within the framework of the gold medal, of course, this can be allowed, but no more.

Eh I get what you mean but what I mean by canon here is more like, the most likely thing that makes the most sense story wise. Like for GTA IV, it’s very clear that the revenge ending is the true ending, and for GTA V it’s the death wish ending. For RDR2 high honor is obviously canon because the game is about Redemption. So yeah, while the developers leave these choices up to each player, we can still speculate on how we think the story really went.

Personally I find the concept of medals to be stupid and really limiting to our playing experience. I don't consider gold medals as the "definitive" way to complete the missions, they're just challenges set up by Rockstar for those that have already beaten the game.

It's up to interpretation but I believe it's canon for Arthur to get caught and jailed, it seems more fitting to end the mission with a cutscene and I just prefer it better.

Yeah I also hate the gold medals. GTA IV and RDR1 were fine without them

ever since they introduced the gold medals in the ballad of gay tony i thought they were dumb. i usually just ignore them because i like to play the game my way not theirs.

Me too. I can’t remember, did they have them in RDR1? That game came out after Gay Tony. Actually if I remember right, RDR1 might also be the only HD era open world rockstar game that doesn’t have alternate endings/story choices like all the others. RDR2 took a lot more of the elements from GTAV, than RDR1 did with GTAIV

I think it's funnier to let him being caught. However, escaping the law is required for the player to achieve gold status in the mission. So I believe escaping is the canon path.

Also you wake up close to the train station where reverend Swanson is. So it makes sense story wise that Arthur stumbles over there. It seems like Arthur is irritated and impatient in the cutscene for that mission which could be because he’s hungover

Obviously there are canonical choices.

The game is called Redemption.
The main plot is redemption.
The last mission is called redemption.

Obviously helping John with positive honor was written first and as the main storyline. The other possibilities were written just for gameplay.

There is no canon way to play a game which cleary gives you choices, the game is called Redemption sure, but if Arthur will or not get his is up to the player, simple as that.

I agree there are no canons in RDR2, but I do believe there's an intended way to develop the story (like with Arthur being honorable and all). It's up to the player to accept this intended path or to follow an alternate route.

Yeah that’s clearly what I’m talking about here when I say “canon”. The other guy is basically arguing about semantics
