What are some examples of gameplay choices confirmed to be canon in dialogue?

For example, the 2nd or 3rd time John and Sadie hunt a bounty in the epilogue, John tells Sadie he’s been doing some bounty hunting, regardless of whether the player actually does so.

Another one is that the newspaper says the Valentine bank robbers used dynamite on the safes even if you choose to crack them.

I also think there may be a few occasions where in a mission if a gang is brought up, Arthur will say he’s run into them recently. Not sure if this happens regardless of whether you actually do interact with them.

What are some other examples of gameplay choices confirmed canon in ways like this?

Hmmm Beer

You will mention having been to Lonnie's Shack before to Sean, if you have. This is on the companion robbery mission in (I think) Chapter 3.

Bro, stop playing the game in some sort of scripted manner, play it naturally, have fun.

I’ve played through the game many times. Right now I’m attempting to do a canon playthrough which I’m capturing on video to edit and splice together into a sort of series

It's a hard written part of the dialogue and doesn't offer and alternative.

My best guess is because they assumed we would have taken part in bounty hunting at this point.

I say this because if you make it to epilogue the correct way... you're completely broke, and there aren't many ways to make money at this point in the game.

Based upon that, I guess the Assumption was made that we would take part in a bounty or two.

Does that happen even if you haven’t been there?

Not sure if it's true but the dialogue about John doing bounty hunting is dependant on whether Arthur has completed 'Good, Honest, Snake Oil' or not.

Arthur talks about killing animals needlessly regardless of what you do in-game.

This is most likely just an oversight, but in Javier's fishing activity Arthur mentions that they haven't rode together since their time in the mountains, implying that his home robbery mission doesn't happen until chapter 3 (although this doesn't make sense story wise).

That Javier thing is a really good example. That’s exactly the kind of thing I’m looking for. Why doesn’t it make sense story wise? Is it not possible to do the fishing before the home robbery? Is there no way to make it work story wise?

also about Arthur talking about killing animals needlessly, I was actually reading recently that it is possible to get him to say something different, but extremely difficult because the dialogue doesn’t work properly as intended. I’m pretty sure the game counts humans outside of missions, like o’driscalls as “animals”. Also, anytime you have the max amount of a certain ingredient, you don’t collect all the parts when you skin or loot, and this registers as you wasting or killing without reason. Some people were able to get him to say something different by basically being extremely careful and doing a pacifist run. I’m pretty sure I read that there are 3 different versions of that dialogue, but when you play the game naturally you’ll always get the one you refer to.

In a version of that camp conversation he says he's been killing innocent folks.

He probably says that because you always end up killing a rabbit or at least a squirrel on your travels, seriously, it's impossible to do a playthrough on this game without running over at least a million rabbits while at it.

That’s exactly it. I’m sure if you skin them, it won’t count as “needless kill.” Accidental tramples, and bird shooting competitions are most likely what cause this dialogue.

Well the home robbery mission unlocks early in Chapter 2, but can also be done in Chapter 3 after his fishing activity. The location of Chez Porter is closer to Horseshoe Overlook than Clemens Point. The gang is on the run and it doesn't make sense story wise for anyone to go back to that area once they head south. Javier mentions hearing about a robbery tip "in town", which makes more sense for him to be talking about Valentine than Rhodes because of the location and Javier never visits Rhodes (also it's a southern town so he wouldn't fit in to even be able to hear about any rumors or tips). It's also a bit jarring to delay his mission for too long as every time Arthur walks near Javier he'll call out to him, sometimes interfering with other mission dialogues like John's train heist. Also Javier's mission serves as the introduction to homestead robberies, which fits better in the earlier portion of the game.

So it just works better to do it in Chapter 2 even though Arthur talks like it never happened.

Exactly, especially considering some bird carcasses lands on the top of something you can't reach to collect them, but I simply don't give a damn about this kind of stuff, so it's all good.

Two weeks go by from the time you get to horseshoe until you take control of Arthur - anything could have happened during that unseen time.

Well there definitely is such thing as what I mean by that when I say it, because I’m doing it lol

If I do it the opposite of you, whose game is cannon?  both.

Well what I mean is doing things in the most logical order, that makes sense for the story and characters. So if you did the opposite of that then someone who didn’t would be closer to canon

Like I said, there is no such thing. You can play the missions in any order presented to you and the game is no less cannon.

But if dialogue in the game confirms the way the events actually transpired, then that is canon, so I disagree
