Huh, I mean, R* is not forced to update PC into next gen, but they commented it long time ago that they would do it, and btw, when GTA V came to PC R* editor was an exclusive feature as with The Lab radio, console players asked for it and R* added it for console players in the next patches, so it's not a crime to ask for it, but of course R* is not forced to do it sure

Aw come on let's not start going into the whole PC deserves this console deserves that debacle as usual, I wish we got some of the improvements on PC, but as stated above, in the first ever reveal article they did say GTA Online updates would be on Gen9 and PC so maybe we'll at least get Hao's shop?

 

I have a feeling we might get a patch on PC down the line, maybe when the console sales end in June (matching the Summer DLC?)

Indeed, all the next gen references found on the game files on these months were from the PC version... So it might happen, maybe not, who knows, we will see

Because GTA V's engine now suports PBR like you've hinted before right?

 

EDIT: So GTAO is free for the first three months after launch on PS5, so the earliest we could have it on PC is June or July?

GTA V on PC has supported PBR for quite a while.

It's not full PBR but there are some things like _ma maps for specular and _mb for dirt which they added around the Cayo Perico update. I made a video a while back which you can view here.

These textures were done in a PBR workflow, which doesn't mean that RAGE revision used in GTA5 utilizes PBR. They're treated as standard specular maps.

Still, a video editor and a radio station exclusive for some months can't compare towards the fact that we may have to wait to get gameplay content. It never happened before since we have the game on PC. What's left to be seen is if it's going to be now what will happen.

Lol, that's interesting, just noticed it on my own Steam Store, they are shown separate like RDO but there's no GTAO Standalone on Steam (yet?). The thing is, there doesn't seem much evidence there'll be a patch or something on SteamDB, neither there seems to be an AppID for GTAO Standalone, unless they just suddenly add it on Tuesday or in the next couple business days.

 

Might be generic artwork? We shall wait I guess lol.

It'll be nice to have a pre-DLC weekend (inb4 Rockstar uploads information tomorrow!) where I don't have to feel hyped about upcoming near-future content. 

 

Up to and including 'The Contract', my interest in GTAO has been waning - so if the Next-Next-Gen content is exclusive to consoles then I'm happy for them, and hope that it'll make the game worthwhile for the new adopters / lucky few. 

 

Roll on a few months (as S-V suggested, maybe in the summer) and I might want a piece of that new stuff, or I might have tuned out entirely. If Rockstar continue to hold their cards to their chest and provide no information, it's likely to be the latter! 

 

All I've taken from what used to be called E&E in terms of content is that it's a small Spring DLC. There's at least ten new vehicles, another specialised mechanic, races/challenges related to said new vehicles... and that's about it. Fancy graphics don't make me excited (my seven y/o PC obviously runs Online better if I tone things down anyway), haptic stuff is irrelevant using a keyboard and mouse, and it's unlikely that I'm going to restart my GTAO career for the sake of a few cookie-cutter businesses and a $1M helping hand, or whatever it is. 

 

TLDR: if next Tuesday only brings new content to the new consoles, so be it. I'm not going to lose sleep about whether GTAO on PC ends.

This right here though might be why R* is holding PC announcements close to their chests if it's coming - the improvements in comparison to the consoles' are mostly technical/QoL and some of the stuff like console-specific haptic feedback and 3D audio probably isn't going to be implemented. So, given we already have stuff like higher graphics settings choices, for PC we'd probably have a graphics API change to allow for ray tracing (DX11 into DX12) which would already help performance on the graphics code side of things, the what you called "Spring DLC" plus the Career Builder* and any other content they might still be revealing, and other back-end/performance optimisations they might be doing to make the game run better - GTAO lobbies and certain locations (LSCM, Cayo Perico) even on powerful PC's can struggle with frame rate - given that consoles now have a 60 FPS performance mode it's not unlikely they've made some much needed optimisations to the engine.

 

Just for the potential performance improvements and quality of life changes/UI stuff/GTAO content/etc I do hope it comes on PC, but we'll have to see if/when.

 

*That Steam sale sure seems enticing for new players wanting to use a Career Builder... but it's not available yet so lol.

Alos there's a hypothesis that seems to me not being debated too much: we can see in March 15th all the gameplay content coming to PC also but the upgraded stuff like graphics performances, etc., maybe only later. If so, it's a deal to me. I don't think my PC would hold RT anyway.

they dont seem to upgrade games that are already on a platform, for whatever reason. just new platfroms, so if they dont plan on doing it via update for pc, best bet is if we get a PC 2

They said 5 new cars alongside 5 old that will get improved performance, so probably there will only be 5 new looking cars. They could make something like Benny where those 5 older cars would get ''facelift'' or entirely new look, but if they only get performance upgrades they might have new feeling to them depending if handling would be drastically changed.

 

@Spider-Vice Speaking about directx, i hope if they ever bring dx12 to the pc that there would still be an option for dx11, it's always better to have more options, dx12 might be broken initially or be worse on older GPUs.

Oh yeah I think they wouldn't remove DX11, you'd be cutting off a few people on old GPU's that can still kind of run GTA V as well. Kind of.

Well yes because PC gaming is in a category of its own, it's not classed into different generations like consoles. Hence, why I think PC will definitely get these new upgrades, whether it's the same time as consoles or later down the line.

Yup, I pointed this out a couple of times, it was in the original 2020 article. It never said they'd stop updating the previous gen consoles immediately though.

atm there's not much evidence that PC is getting an update on Tuesday at least on Steam, as we'd see the qalive branch being updated instead, but who knows... If PC is to get the new features like ray tracing etc I'm assuming it's gonna be a lot more testing work due to all the different configurations, I think we might get it, just delayed from console if we don't get it right now.

Apparently the session-hijacking issue (BaIIstorture etc) has reared its head again, so at this point I'd almost hope that Rockstar throw in the towel and stick to the Next-Next-Gen platforms until they figure out that security on PC needs to be fixed before anything else should be added to the pile of spaghetti code.
