One thing I don't understand: Is the next gen version coming to PC as well?

So as we all know, today Rockstar Games announced that the next-gen version is coming in 10 days from now. 

 

Nobody has ever said anything about the PC version. Why? As far as I know, it is confirmed that the game will have several improvements, even compared to the PC release, such as Ray Tracing. So why hasn't anyone ever said anything about the PC version? Is it coming to PC? Wtf?

Can't lie, makes me laugh anytime I read this type of comment TBH.

 

You got what you paid for, and got the same years of support (content) as those on other platforms. R* are under no obligation to give PC this for free considering they're charging other platforms (aside the online standalone PS5 promo). 

 

Everyone has to pay to get GTA V again with all this new graphics and stuff, so I don't see how you'd be so hard done by or treated unfairly if R* were to charge PC players too. You got what you paid for and what R* offered at the time.

 

But alas, you'll probably get it free. Maybe on release, but might be a bit later.

 

Don't get me wrong, I feel PC should get the same new content/graphics options etc. on the same day as those on consoles of course. Weather free or for a fee. Just don't agree you guys are being f*cked if they were to charge the same as consoles is all.

I've to agree. When we bought GTA V in 2013, we got what we paid for. When we bought GTA V in 2014-5, we got what we paid for and this'll likely be the case this time as well. I hope so at least.

I can't imagine these new car mods/colours and Hao's tuning shop won't be added to PC somehow, surely. Maybe the same day with an update, maybe a bit later, but it would be ideal for R* to give more information to help clarify their plans and answer PC players' questions.

 

Just makes things easier all round. I'd have no objections if it was free on PC mind you, but I'd not bet against a small charge too.

I wish it did because I think PC could definitely use with some of the under-the-hood changes that the next-gen version seems to be getting (i.e. ray tracing would imply DX12 which would help with graphics performance bottlenecks), the new front-end menu they teased for GTA Online would be a nice to have (from the Contract's files and from the Newswire, sounds like it might work like RDR2's), ray tracing for those with the capability would be good too (I can't anyway so ), so remains to see if they say anything about PC in the next few days, just shadow drop an update, or if we'll have to wait to get these updates until a later date... Same goes for the GTAO content.

Unlikely. It'll be considered it's own thing, just like the transfer from X360/PS3 to XB1/PS4. Unless they add every DLC car to the story mode websites and add them to traffic, I won't be getting it. It can be done with the GTA V we all have now by editing the map's car generators using CodeWalker.

 

I'll wait to see whether or not it's another dumpster fire (like the trilogy) before I even consider buying it. No point in having to pay for being a guinea pig.

3. The content in this release is seemingly smaller than any dlc they released. A few cars and a new auto shop?

 

Using all of this, I can conclude that it will just be a quick PC update, I would guess on day 1.

Using all of this, I can conclude that it will just be a quick PC update, I would guess on day 1.

 

 

1.) Rockstar claims they upgraded textures, AA and can't remember what else, and based on the promotional screenshots (I know they are edited and photoshopped) the graphics should look better than maxed out PC settings.

2.) RDR2 does not have ray tracing. Global Illumination is not ray tracing, it's far from it actually. 

3.) Graphical upgrade, new user interface, new cars... it does not sound like a small "DLC", dude.

in addition to everything said here my worry is that if PC does not count as the "next-gen" version it's next on the chopping block along with the struggling PS4/X1 versions, first with updates being dropped, then servers getting shut down entirely

1) It could be exclusive for consoles or just temporarily, in order to try to boost console sales?

 

2) It might be taking more time so they can optimize for different PC configurations (plus DLSS, DXR and RTX support, etc...) and/or working on new security features?

 

The question is, would they go through all the trouble of releasing it now on PC, without better security features? And then later have to redo all the work, if they plan to have both GTAO1 and GTAO2 running at the same time or even if they plan to have just one version in the future?!

 

This is old but I wonder if it still applies:

 

If the revenue is not as high as on consoles (plus cheating on PC) would it be worth it? It probably would be better to continue with PS4/XBO/PC version until (/if) they cut off PS4/XBO and, at around the same time they release GTA 6, they would update GTA5:DE/GTAO for PC?

 

It's all doubts and food for thought. I don't know for sure.

Just DLSS. "RTX" is NVIDIA's branding for their whole line of technology, ray tracing itself wasn't added. Ray marching (see this presentation by a R* graphics programmer), something completely different but that attempts to do something similar in a simpler form, is employed for weather in RDR2 on all platforms and is one of the reasons you get these impressive skies and clouds sometimes.

If it's not coming on the 15th that would be one of my thoughts too, as this kind of thing will need to be re-tested and reoptimised for different PC configurations, not to mention access to tons of different PC configurations will be affected by QA still working from home - then again maybe R* IT can provide with some specs to be tested

PC has been next gen for this game since 2015

All jokes aside with the news today about prices I saw this on the MS Store page has me wondering if Play Anywhere feature will be for PC.

Judging by what we've seen so far, I think PC will get the extra features in a title update. You'd get the RTX, HDR, and increased draw distances via an update.

Not so sure about how textures will work on this version or how much they've been upgraded. That would probably be a larger download there. Perhaps it'll work like Watch Dogs 2 and Watch Dogs Legion where you download the updated textures as a DLC.

 

When the PC version of GTA V came out, consoles got PC exclusives later on. The Lab radio station was added to 7th and 8th gen consoles in the next update. PS4 and Xbox One also got the Video Editor and the Director Mode. I feel like the same will happen here.

 

Also the reason why I think it'll be a free upgrade on PC is because it doesn't look like a overhaul. Additionally, Rockstar wants to keep updating GTA Online and they need a way to separate 8th gen from 9th gen GTA Online. So they'll eventually stop updating 8th gen.

 

I definitely believe that what Rockstar does with the PC version after the 9th gen release will determine how they will go forward. I believe they'll want to stop updating 8th gen, but they'll want to continue updating the PC version.

I don't know if you are being facetious, trolling or just ignorant, but PC got the PS4 and Xbox One equivalent update for free when it dropped and, regardless of if you play the game or not, stuff like the Skyrim Special Edition for free while console players had to pay full price for it. Not to mention that features the PC version launched day one with are repackaged and sold as "Next Gen Updates" on consoles makes you look entitled.

 

To say that PC players get shafted over a ten dollar upgrade is laughable.

 

Now, tell me how I am just jealous/salty and should join the PC Master Race. Perhaps if you want these features you should be playing on console?

Sure i would pay for it, if it's just 10 or 20€. But they didn't even mention a word about the PC version, i mean you gotta understand that we PC players are just pissed now. If we don't get the same content day 1, the playerbase will be pissed af.

Welcome to how console players feel every time a game is released with fewer features and settings. Regardless of how powerful your PC is, the consoles are more powerful than some 1080p/30fps PCs, the PC version still releases with more features and settings for every game.
