A bit of support

For past week or so, I've been thinking about random players from Ukraine, and Russia, that I have encountered during my time playing online. There has been laughs. There has been feelings of success. Now, those guys are fighting each other. Getting wounded, even dying. Scarred for life, even if no blood is bled.

Not because they want to, but because that deranged midget makes them to. It feels profoundly wrong, and I, or we, can do absolutely nothing. Nothing, except show our support. I got an idea, and painted my first garage to the colors of Ukrainian flag. Sadly there isn't exactly great match on colors, but it ain't the point.

Gamers like us are fleeing Ukraine, or if adult males, getting ready to fight. Russian boys are forced to go fight there, often with poor gear, no idea what they are doing, where and why. Both are just fighting to stay alive.

I want to show my support for Ukraine, and although I have played almost exclusively in different solo/crew lobbies recently, that is going to change. I'm flying these colors proudly in public only for the time being.

This is miniscule thing to do, and something that many players will fail to even notice. They area not gaudy, and the colors are closer to swedish flag than Ukrainian. Gotta have second look into them. Could you, too, do it? If only to a select few cars, those that you use regularly. It won't hurt. https://imgur.com/a/mZIp6Md

I could do it, I just need to figure out which cars i have that a two tone paint scheme that would match that of the Ukrainian flag. All I can think of off the top of my head are the Ruiner and Futo but there are probably others. 

 

This car I've had with this livery for quite awhile.

When people say stuff like this, and other stuff like "stand shoulder to shoulder" or "show solidarity" etc, to be honest I have no idea what it means.

 

I'm sure in the vast majority of cases, the people who use these terms aren't attention seeking narcissists, they are just people who have become emotional over something and want a release for their feelings, but painting a bunch of cars makes it about you, not the people of Ukraine. The only result of this is you will feel like you did something.

 

It's like when terrorists blow up a  bunch of kids or something, and you get all the tea light and teddybear people out on the streets repeating brainless platitudes like "there is more that unites us than divides us" and "they wont change our way of life" etc , and you look at them, and you want to punch yourself in the face watching them, because you want to scream at them "if you want your kids to stop dying, instead of meeting your mates in town, waving a bunch of bloody daffodils around and posting pictures of your little virtue party on Facebook, go and drag the bloody politicians who let these friggin lunatics into your country and who do nothing to stop them out of there and jail them!"

 

If you want to help the people of Ukraine, make sure you and everyone you know never again votes for any globalist, war-mongering party of psychopaths who keep getting put into power and who love a good war to make their mates rich.

 

My mum and dad spent half their childhoods in and out of bombshelters in Birmingham during bombing raids in WW2. And it lasted 6 years. No one f*cked off to another country after 6 days. The men fought, the women made munitions and the kids grew food.

 

Also, look into who Ukraine sided with in that war before getting too carried away.

I'm from Finland, so this whole situation is rather concrete to us. Why share a long border with Russians, and we have been part of Russia - and gained independence, quite like Ukraine. That's putins reason for this whole sh*tshow, remember?

During WWII, Finland, too, got it's fair share of problematic situations and inconvenience. My grandmother left her home with his family, when Russian invaders came and took Carelia. They were wimps, on your books? Or might it be that there was armored armed forces coming en masse, with nowhere near enough weaponry or manpower, or defensible areas.

And actually, many of the invading Russian soldiers were from Ukraine. They didn't want to come here to die, but they were made to. Partly because UK and USA were so close with stalinistic Soviet Union, that they didn't interfere. That left Finland with nobody else to turn to, than Germany. Then we had to fight those f*cks out of here.

You just can't cherrypick history and say that "look at what they did at that single point back then."

These are difficult things. We all have our own perspectives and viewpoints. Folks from different countries have differing experiences of politics, history, everything. But I really find it hard too understand how it's so bad to do this. Lobbies full of blue and yellow cars will not change anything, but it would look damn cool. Gamers from all over the world showing that they care, and remember that not everyone can be online just now.

Sure there is. You could always sign up for Ukraine's Foreign International Legion. They're pretty desperate so I'm sure they'll take almost anyone. Say Hi to the Azov Battalion for me.

Because this topic already seems to be getting heated, we'll have to nip it in the bud, because of course people in gaming forums can't discuss anything serious properly. Also to those editing out their posts, we can see exactly what was there before, no need to hide that you were being insulting to someone else.  

 

We appreciate the intention, OP, and it would be nice to see more people doing stuff like this in GTAO or IRL (donations etc), but unfortunately a topic like this will never work here and if you wish to discuss the invasion a bit more seriously we have a dedicated topic, thanks! And apologies for how wrong it went because of course it did.
