Weapons Capacity in GTAVI

How many weapons should the character be able to carry?

  1. 1. How should the weapons capacity be in GTA VI?

    • Like GTA V (Being able to carry every weapon in the game at all times)
    • Like RDR2 (Only being able to carry 2-4 weapons, with the rest being stored somewhere else)
    • Like GTA IV and prior GTA games (Only being able to carry one weapon from each 8 categories)

I have noticed a recurring debate throughout this forum regarding how many weapons the character should be able to carry in GTA VI. As many of you guys know, in RDR2 Arthur and John can only carry up to 4 weapons at all times, two handguns (each in a holster) and two long guns (one over the shoulder and one on the back) with all the other weapons staying on your horse's weapon satchel. Meanwhile in GTA V, Franklin, Michael and Trevor can carry every single weapon of the game at once. I have seen many people argue about whether or not GTA VI should keep doing what GTA V did or change it to be similar to what RDR2 did.

In my opinion, both don't really appeal to me. Being able to carry every single weapons in the game at once is a bit overkill while only being able to carry less than 4 weapons and having to store everything else in you car or something like that would make the game very frustrating especially since cars won't come back to you if you whistle at them like horses do in RDR2.

I would much rather it be like GTA IV and prior GTA games where you could only carry one weapon per category (one melee weapon, one handgun, one shotgun, one submachine gun, one assault rifle, one sniper rifle, one heavy weapon and one throwable weapon).

So what do you guys think would be better in GTA VI? All weapons, one weapon per category or similar to RDR2?

I am for GTA IV and prior. I think RDR 2 style would be too limiting for a game like GTA. GTA V style is okay too but I like the minimal need to strategize with the GTA IV and prior style of weapon capacity.

personally I want rdr2 levels of realism, forcing players to store weapons in their car, house, or even a duffel bag you can carry around for more inventory space. they could also make certain clothes be able to carry more weapons such as a trenchcoat or cargo pants.

same thing goes for cars tbh because logically you could probably store more guns in an SUV rather than a supercar.

although I completely understand the appeal of the traditional gta weapon wheel, and carrying literally every weapon in the game on your person. It should definitely be toggleable for the players who still want to play that way.

GTA isn't meant to be as RPG-ey as RDR (although I wouldn't be surprised if some RDR2 mechanics or improvements make it to GTA) so I think I'd go for either GTA IV's solution (1 weapon per category) to spice things up a bit instead of letting you have everything at once, or keep it as is in GTA V. In GTA IV and previous games, if you wanted a new weapon, you'd either have to pick it up or go to AmmuNation to replace your current weapon with another one from the same category, instead of having a wheel with everything from the same category.

i like gta 4s system. although i do want the weapon wheel. but we should still be able to own every gun in the game. but just not allowed to carry them all at once. we should have a gun locker like rdr2 has. where any extra guns we dont want to use can be stored. think of it like this. in rdr2 i have my main loadout that i always like to use. but every now and then i want to switch up guns. so i go to my weapon locker and use my other guns. when we first start off the game we will have the weaker weapons like always. but im hoping to still be able to customize our guns like gta 5 and rdr2.

so what if we spend money upgrading our guns. and then when we unlock better guns we can keep the old guns at the safehouse. its annoying how in previous games we have to throw our old guns away when we get the stronger gun in that class. especially when some of those guns have sentimental properties. like the pistol jacob gives you. so we should be able to keep all guns. but just not have them all on your person at once.

i also hope we can sell unwanted guns. like guns we pick up from gunfights. or at least have a way to get rid of them. because there is usually a few weapons i really dont like and it just takes space in my inventory. and lastly i dont want us to be able to carry thousands of bullets for each gun. it should be like rdr2. be able to carry a decent amount. and then have ways to carry a little more like the upgraded bandolier and gun belt. every time i replay gta 5 i hardly ever have to go to a gun store. because i usually pick up enough ammo from enemies to last me.

I've said this in a few different threads whenever this topic comes up but I want a sort of combination of V and RDR2. The ability to carry any and all guns but also the ability to drop/store any and all guns. This allows players to pretty much customize their loadout however they want.

You could even incorporate some elements of GTA IV and have your weapon storage be a van that an NPC friend drives and you can call whenever you want to drop off or pick up a new weapon. I'd probably prefer it just being a menu in the pause screen, though.

I really, really disliked the way the limited weapon loadout was handled in RDR2. It felt deliberately inconvenient and killed my immersion more than it enhanced it. At the same time, GTA V's weapon wheel got ridiculously bloated and cumbersome pretty fast. Full customization feels like the best way to go to cater to both crowds.

I want to be able to drop a weapon, too.

I'd like something similar to the RDR2 system, something more grounded, I think a limited inventory with more firepower stored in a vehicle puts more onus on strategy and tactics, for example driving to a mission objective in your personal vehicle, looks like your going into a smallish cramped building, possible trouble inside, you decide a shotgun would be a good choice, likewise out in the sticks, plenty of open space, rifle would be a safer bet.

You could also tie weapon customization into this, maybe a foldable stock on a rifle or carbine might give you space for one more weapon slot. I don't expect Rockstar to implement a system like this, a big inventory was always a staple, and the weapon wheel expanded on this, with a limited inventory there would have to be a few gameplay changes and tweaks, which might not fit into peoples Gta vision, for me it's more of a wish than a realistic suggestion.

I think there should be an option for Modern style (hold all weapons you want) or Classic Style (hold one of each type of weapon.

Each style would also change other features in the game other than weapons.

on a side note. if there are multiple protagonists again. i hope we can have our characters trade weapons or lend weapons to our other protagonists. for example as im replaying gta 5. i notice trevor and franklin gets access to some good weapons earlier. and my michael usually has a weak arsenal for a while. so if i had a gun i like but i got it for a character i don't like as much. i should be able to give it to my favorite.

This is a bit of a though call since all of the mentioned options have their appeal for me, but for game like GTA I think last option (GTA IV) is best one, with ability to store additional weapons at safehouses and in vehicles.

I like this idea actually, and would want it to be like this for the online mode too. There's only one weapon in each category I use anyway and I'm sick of the current Online where I drop weapons but they come back, or the gun locker is glitched and doesn't work properly. I hate carrying an entire armoury and having to cycle through all the bullsh*t to get to the weapon I want.

Part of the reason why you could only carry a limited amount of guns in RDR2 was because the guns physically appeared on your character, something which made sense in the games time period. But in a GTA game, be it 80's or modern day, it doesn't really work or look right walking around with assault rifles on your back - crude jokes aside - so at that point when one of the main reasons for RDR2's system is out, keeping the carry limitations in seems kinda pointless.

The whole keeping the guns in your car trunk is a nice idea and all, but in RDR2 your horse is practically (and by design) a supporting character, you aren't switching your horse up every minute, stealing new ones, etc. GTA meanwhile has never really had a system of using owned vehicles anywhere near as consistently enough for the trunk idea to work.

For them to do anything but keep the weapon capacity system as is would require a complete do over for GTA's combat and vehicle ownership and customisation system. Walking around armed to the teeth would, in even a loose depiction of the real world, make a scene and draw police attention, so the game would have to push pistol combat heavily as you could do concealed weaponry (lets just ignore stuff like having to wear a jacket 24/7 or stuffing every pistol in the back of your trousers/pants for that for now). Then you'd have to highly encourage using player owned vehicles always, which means adopting the insurance model from GTAO, having a way to deliver your vehicle to you, etc.

Basically, it'd create a whole list of tricky problems to solve while really rubbing against some of GTA's core pillars; having a wide variety of weapons to choose from at a moments notice, using a wide variety of vehicles and clothing customisation.

tl;dr = don't fix what's not broken

Do absolutely add a weapon locker to SP though, Rockstar.

indeed. all i want is to store away weapons i don't use so i don't need to scroll through them all the time. seriously, it sounds more like a pain in the ass to retrieve your weapons from your car or safehouse. it's a hassle to me and not fun, no matter if it's more realistic or not. same with people wanting fuel. that will get annoying quick. what's next, cops responding to every red light you run?

there's parts of realism that add to the game and then there's parts that would be absolutely detrimental to the gameplay, imo.

I'm more than okay with carrying 30 invisible, weightless weapons that I can pull out anytime, anywhere. That to me is not an immersion killer, it's almost a bread and butter formula at this point.

I love the spontaneous nature of having a lot of weird and wonderful weapons at my disposal. The weapon wheel in GTA V is basically a perfect formula in my view. A weapon locker, or being able to stash weapons in your car, would be a nice mechanic for people who just didn't want to carry all weapons (for whatever reason) and could then access/deposit them when not needed.

But I certainly do not want to be running around, carrying a duffel bag full of weapons...

I don't mind the current system but it is a bit overkill as you say. I do like the RDR2 system as I like considering what weapons I might need for the job. But you have the benefit of the horse with you at all times.

I think a good compromise is having one weapon from each class. I think the trunk of your car should be like in Cyberpunk where your car trunk is your storage and can be accessed from every trunk you own or safehouse you own so you can swap out guns in each class.  That to me seems more realistic or I can suspend my disbelief easier with that setup than carrying at one time a whole arsenal of weapons enough to arm a small militia.

RDR2 system is my vote. It doesn't need to be exactly like that, but something similar perhaps? Like, being able to carry only 4-5 weapons while the rest will be stored in your house or your car, and if you're carrying a rifle on your back the police would start to chase you. Maybe it wouldn't work this way, but it is an idea I'd like to see them playing with.

I can't really see anymore a game where you can bring out of your pocket guns, rifles, minigun and so on, this basically give you the immortality and make the entire game too easy. I hope in a rdr2 style. That's the way

I think GTA 4's weapons capacity mechanic would be better on GTA 6, being able to carry one weapon of each kind, but every other weapon should be kept on our weapons locker, not lost, otherwise we would always have to waste money to change our weapons and customize them again.

This is how I think our weapons loadouts should be:

2 revolvers, 2 pistols, 2 small submachine guns or we can mix 1 of one kind and 1 of another kind (because of the dual-wielding mechanic).

1 normal submachine gun or 1 light machine gun.

1 assault rifle, 1 bolt-action rifle or 1 sniper rifle.

1 sawed-off shotgun or 1 normal shotgun.

1 longbow or 1 crossbow.

1 minigun, 1 grenade launcher, 1 rocket launcher or 1 something similar lol.

So in the end we would only be able to carry 6, 7 or 8 weapons at maximum.

I'd combine RDR2 and old GTA systems. You could own all weapons available in game, but carry only one weapon from each category (melee weapons, handguns, SMGs, shotguns, rifles, sniper rifles, heavy weapons and thrown weapons),with the rest being stored in trunk of your car, saddlebags of your bike and gun safe in your safehouse, where you could switch them.

If they do go with an RDR 2 system where all your weapons have to be stored in your car or a duffel bag, well, great, hope I can whistle and have my car come and pick me up.

I mean, I get what people are going for around the planning of missions and what not, but what about when you're not on a mission? One of the best things about GTA is that if you get bored of the story, you can whip a rocket launcher out of your trousers and see how high you can push the wanted level. Even GTA IV understood this. So, what are random rampage people supposed to do with this system? Intricately plan out every random rampage? That would suck out most of the fun! If so many people are that against the GTA V system where you can hold every single weapon, fine, I get that. But this hard shift into realism would ruin a big part of the free roam. And while I'm here.

This sounds annoying as hell. I mean, in GTA V, people would call the cops on you for standing near them, and that's still not enough ways you can end up in a police chase you didn't want to be in at the moment? I mean, christ, why not just always have a wanted level, all the time, because the police actually have a database that remembers you this time? Why not just have pedestrians that swan dive in front of your car while calling the police?  Why even have pedestrians, just flood the whole game with police that give you a wanted level every time they see you.

Sometimes realism needs to take a back seat to fun. I mean, if we must go back to GTA IV's weapons system because having all weapons is not realistic, well, fine, I use cheat codes and mods anyways, I can deal with that. But this idea of not only having a 4-5 weapon limit AND having the cops chase you for open carrying would ruin the game.
