Milford809
Where the hell are the Katana and the Flamethrower? I'm comparing V's weapons to San Andreas and no Flamethrower and no Katana? What the hell R*. Add them in online or something. Those were 2 of the funnest weapons to use on crowds of people.

Yoona
Nobody knows, GTA V misses so many things from previous GTA games. Many of them were added to GTA Online only years later, but not Katana, Flamethrower and Chainsaw. DenjiChainsawman and lil vader
Guest
Because GTA IV took a more grounded approach towards the series, and therefore OTT weapons like the katana and flamethrower were omitted. Then GTA V came and it has a bit of an identity crisis in that it doesn't really fully commit to the ways of either the 3D era or IV. Thus we got the minigun back but not the flamethrower. Lemoyne outlaw
i know there is a flamethrower on some of the arena wars cars. but not an actual portable one for when your on foot. if you ever wanted to kill someone with fire just use the molotovs. as for the katana its meh for me. we already have a bunch melee weapons in the game. so a katana would not really matter for me. red dead redemption 2 has a pirate sword. so you could use that for the same katana feel if you have that game. i think gta 5 had some fun unique weapons. the real problem with them is their weak pathetic gun sounds. What is with people in GTAForums minimalizing other people desires and liken experiences with saying they don't care for it so it's not nessicary yet come up with something they want and try to make that sound broad and universal? billiejoearmstrong8
I think it's because of how much more realistic the graphics are in HD era GTA. In 3D era when you were flamethrowing/chainsawing/slicing heads off NPCs it felt cartoonish. But with much more realistic and "human" feeling NPCs it would be more disturbing. It's the same reason they removed dismemberment. They're going for a certain vibe with the games and it's not an extreme gore/horror vibe it's a more lighthearted one, so they adjusted the level of violence accordingly as the games became more realistic and less cartoonish. That's true, although I think in RDR2 it's kind of different because the game has a more serious atmosphere and there's heavier consequences for killing people, so that kind of balances out the violence, and the gore just seems like part of the realism (same as skinning animals etc). In GTA killing people is done more lightly and more quickly with modern weapons, so the same level of gore as RDR2 could come off as more over the top and gratuitous. I hope they'll increase the detail but I could see them holding off from full on dismemberment just to keep that (relatively) more lighthearted GTA vibe. Considering even RDR1 has much more detailed and graphic injuries and executions etc than GTA V (which came out 3 years later) it does seem that way.
