Starbeth
RAGE has continuously been evolving though, why would it be 2.0? unless im missing something, theres no reason they would switch to Unreal imo Edited February 12 by Starbeth Ash_735, Len Lfc and Chris04 2

Lioshenka
I played games on both engines and prefer Renderware... Both Rage and UE have huge potential, but I don't think R* are capable of tweaking them to a level comparable to other games. IV, V and DE have some horrid moments relating to the camera movement or controls that were never fixed. Starbeth
rjmthe2nd
To even suggest them switching engines shows you're not privy to Rockstar's way of doing things. MrBreak16, Kerminator369 and iSignUpEveryGTA

Racecarlock
Using unreal engine 5 makes no sense from a development standpoint if your company not only built its own engine from scratch but has been updating it and getting familiar with it the whole time. I mean, I get it, I've seen unreal engine 5 tech demos, but have you seen what the average graphics modder is pulling off with GTA V these days? I mean, just look up the channel InterGTA or Kryton on youtube, you'll find so many videos of incredible looking graphics mods, and those guys aren't even being paid and aren't building the game from scratch. Unreal 5 and previous unreal engines were made for developers that don't have the time and resources to build their own engines from scratch. Rockstar has no reason to switch to it. I wonder what version we're currently on, last I knew for certain was 3.0 for Max Payne 3, I'm guessing 4.0 and 5.0 are GTAV PC/PS4/XB1 and RDR2. Maybe E&E could be on a new code base? It does feature ray tracing in some capacity. zBiglucky, Len Lfc and Starbeth

I just generally worked it out as each game being an update to RAGE: Table Tennis: RAGE 1.0 GTA IV: RAGE 2.0 RDR: RAGE 3.0 Max Payne 3: 4.0 GTA V: RAGE 5.0 RDR2: RAGE 6.0 GTA VI: RAGE 7.0 But that doesn't really work out very accurately, since it's not like each game is a brand new version. But more like varying iterations. So GTA VI is probably 6.0? GTA IV & RDR1 probably use the same version, minus some iterations. And even then, is there a huge difference between GTA V & MP3? All the 360/PS3 games are probably on the same version of RAGE, just with varying differences. I, with my extremely limited knowledge on the subject, would presume the major evolutions would come with generational leaps. RDR was an offshoot of 2.0, due to how awkwardly the project was handled changes were not documented properly, etc, so in the end that's more of a 2.5. That's why they used that year off during L.A.Noire (which doesn't use RAGE) to completely revamp the engine to make use of (at the time) multi-core functions properly, AO, SPU threads, tesselation, etc, and that was shown off with Max Payne 3 across the consoles and PC. RAGE 2.0 covered GTA IV and Midnight Club LA (and EFLC, MCLA Complete Edition), RAGE 3.0 covered Max Payne 3 and at least the PS3/360 versions of GTAV/GTA Online.
