Zello
https://deadline.com/2022/02/blade-runner-2099-sequel-series-ridley-scott-amazon-1234931521/ Takes place 50 years after 2049. I really hope they don't screw this sh*t up. Mister Pink
Mexicola9302
If Netflix wasn't able to keep "Altered Carbon" running, i hardly believe Amazon will have more than 2-3 seasons of "Blade Runner 2099" running. Because of budget reasons, stuff like this is way too expensive. If it's not well made it looks cheap af, if it's too well made it's too expensive. But i would be happy if it actually happens, if it becomes a real series that runs for 5-6 seasons before it's cancelled or ended. Budget also was the reason why Game of Thrones, had to end so suddenly, in the last 2 seasons of GoT they speeded up the story and ruined the end completly. The actors knew they could get more money, the effects got more expensive etc. this all makes series very expensive if they come closer to the end. Well Halo, Fallout and Lord of the Rings are getting series too, that also won't be cheap, we will see what happens with all these probably very very expensive series. I don't got very high hopes for any of them. I rather try not to get hyped at probably soon to be cancelled stuff. Game of Thrones was different George RR Martin hasn’t finished writing the final book so the show ran out of material and they had to make it up on their own. The only chance to keep and make this series successfully to invite Denis Villeneuve to the place of director, he can create something new in the TV industry, Ridley Scott is not so well suited for this role. Mister Pink
I hope Denis Vellenueve becomes a producer and directs the first episode or first few episodes at least. Usually a series has multiple directors and a star director does the first episode. A bit like Martin Scorsese directing the first episode of Boardwalk Empire. He was also a producer. Ridley Scott might just be too old. He's about 85 now. Blade Runner show can absolutely work. Altered Carbon has nothing to with any potential success Blade Runner may or may not have. Altered Carbon suffers from it's own concept, possibly budget constraints that chastised the storytelling. It's hard for people to empathise with a mysterious character as a sleeve played by 3 different actors. It goes completely against story as cinema "rules" and how audiences engage with on-screen characters. It just thows any convention out the window and relies on beautiful set design and CGI. The story isn't bad but the adaptation onto the screen doesn't work because we weren't introduced into the Altered Carbon world in a meaningul and identifiable and dare I say "humane" way. We're thrown into the world with a mystery protag that's a sleeve played by 3 actors. Just explaining that alone to any filmmaker worth their salt and they could tell it wasn't going to work unless you built up the protag very slowly and wrote story pieces to help the audience empathize and get on the protagonist's side and introduced the and carefully spent time introducing the Altered Carbon cyberpunk futuristic world to us. Blade Runner has more identifiable and humane characters (even as replicants) we as the audience can identify with on a level more than Altered Carbon. This is difference of why I think BR can be more of a success. Although it still tackles the same themes as AC (replicants and sleeves), the neo-noir genre it's steeped in can also inform the audience as a style. It's some kind of familiarity by genre and how we engage with on-screen protagonists. AC didn't go for the neo-noir style, perhaps not wanting to seem to much of a copy of Blade Runner. But I would argue using neo-noir as a motive/genre for Blade Runner helps identify and accept massive sci-fi concepts and themes because noir is something already familiar to audiences. In a world in the future where replicants and flying cars exist and these massive themes, it's easier to digest these concepts through the familiarity of a genre such as Neo-Noir or film noir. Just my opinion. Edited September 1 by Mister Pink The Time Ranger 1 𝙼𝚄𝚂𝙸𝙲 𝙽𝙾𝙽 𝚂𝚃𝙾𝙿
