Did they fix most bugs already?

Three months after the release of the game and a couple months after the first major patch;

 

  1. Are those invisible objects still there?
  2. How about the fog? I know they somehow fixed it, but it was still insufficient compared to those fog mods.
  3. How about those awful character models? They fixed Old Reece, but I haven't heard of the ugly girlfriend monstrosities yet.
  4. Anything else??

Some reported/obvious bugs.. yes.. but there are still TONS of bugs/graphical errors waiting for to be fixed.. 🙂

Damn! I was kinda ready to shell out some $$ for GTA SA sometime this year. I guess with the way they're handling the bugs, I should just wait it out til they get fixed or when the price significantly drops.

Is there any specific reason why You don't want to play original? The DE versions are so buggy, it will take a lot of time to polish them to the point where originals game are.

No amount of patches is going to fix these games. With how f*cking pathetic these remasters are, you would literally need to restart from scratch to fix them

I still have the original PC version. Sure, I can install a lot of mods to put it to modern standards, but I'm not risking more headache. The engine is too old to handle a proper, modern total overhaul without intermittent crashes.

 

I'd buy the Def Trilogy for a nostalgia run as well as a game for my niece to mess around in. But, the prettier graphics doesn't convince us both (she's 9) since the games still look clunky and outdated compared to other recent remasters. It was supposed to be a remake, but they had to cut corners.

With how R* have been handling remasters/game releases lately, I honestly have doubts it was supposed to be a remake in the first place. With their excuses and public reaction, it it most likely they never even tested the remasters before they came out, basically putting all their faith in GSG that they're not gonna mess up one more time like they did with the PS3 generation "remasters". There is a new video by VadimM that basically goes over in detail for the DE and there are more videos on the way, and even in there, he showcased why the new lightning improvements suck.

There are a bunch of mods that make the game better (look up DE mods on MixMods) including better fog. I actually did a 100% run of the DE trilogy and enjoyed it quite a bit. I think in the future these versions will be improved enough that they might even be better than the OG versions but that would mean some scripting mod support (not currently available) to fix some of the physics related bugs and perhaps restore old controls for aircraft and other vehicles. The nice thing about the DE versions is that modding is natively supported by UE4 and easy to install.

 

Edit: I have to stress that Unreal Engine is much more versatile in terms of modding support. The old engine could not handle lots of hi-res textures and assets even with memory hacks without freezing or crashing sometimes.

Like a lot of people, I think it's more than a remaster in most cases. But, it was less than half a proper remake.

 

A proper remake would be the Mafia DE

A proper remaster would be GTA 5 PS4 version.

GTA V E&E was more of a port/ next-gen patch.

 

Unreal Engine looks really pretty, even for open-world games, but most in-house engines perform better in that regard, RAGE included.

 

So, perhaps the bugs were caused by poor UE4 optimization. Sure, UE4 made it easy for the devs to port, but the engine handled it poorly as well as the devs.

 

Biggest deal breaker for me were the exclusion of removed soundtrack. The game feels weird without Pretend We're Dead and other tracks from the game.
