Help with races in GTA Online (PC).

Hello, so I am relatively new to GTA Online. At the moment, I am having fun doing the transform races as the courses are fun, and it's a mix of land sea or air vehicles. One thing I can't figure out is how people are able to shoot past me so quickly when we're both in the same vehicle. For example earlier today I was doing a race, and part of the race involved switching into one of those old wooden style speed boats. I was driving the boat as fast as I could when all of a sudden 2 people in boats behind me went flying past and no matter what I did I couldn't catch back up to them. This has also happened in other races as well with different vehicles.

So how are people getting speed boosts in the middle of races that allows them to pass me so easily when we are driving the exact same vehicle? I know you can get a boost at the start of a race as well as when driving over or through one of the boost rings/ramps, but this was different.

Thanks

Standard settings in these races such as "Catch up" and "Slipstream" will cripple you at the worst times.

In transform races you also get your own custom cars if you own that particular vehicle listed in the race description and the higher levels will have them fully decked out. Boats sections suck all around though..try leaning the boat back (somehow) to keep that prop/engine in the water. (Im not a PC player)

If you enjoy the racing early on you should try to host them yourself and probably turn catch up off and also limit the custom vehicles if thats possible. Good luck

Well considering that you are on PC there might be the possibility that those 2 guys had a nice little cheat programm running.

Yeah those cheating f*cks are in races and other gamemodes aswell.

Also, there used to be a bug that made cars go faster the higher the framerate of your PC.

Transform races have the highest skill ceiling in all races.

Here some tips to help you in your way:

Catchup and Slipstream only help casuals to make a come back to the leader, if you want a fair race, turn those off.

Boats have pitch control, Shift lifts your nose and make you faster in a straight line, Ctrl makes your nose go down and give you "more traction" for turns, you can also use both commands to ride the waves and prevent your boat from go flying, any moment where your vehicle in not in contact with the water means that you have no propulsion, Spacebar help making sharp turns (your propeller will turn more).

Check points are bigger than they look, shave some seconds by cutting the corners as much as you can.

When piloting the Blazer Aqua (the Jet-ski/ATV hybrid) the timing on lifting the wheels is crucial, some jumps can be made with the wheels up for minimal resistance to the movement.

Amphibious vehicles such as Blazer Aqua, Technical Aqua and others will have their engine revs increased in the Water if you hold Spacebar, this increase the performance on water.

Try to predict when you will transform in a vehicle with a Rocket boost such as the Rocket Voltic, Oppressor, so you can boost from the checkpoint while still covered in smoke from the transformation.

Some jumps can be avoided, the less air time, the more time on the ground where you have propulsion/traction.

Parachutes slow you down, there are some parts where you have to parachute either on foot or with the Ruiner 2000, try to open your parachute as late as possible, if not, not use it at all.

When going over bumps you get small speed boosts, this phenomenon is a quirk of the rage engine known by the community as kerb boosts, try to get as many as you can, using everything to your advantage like zebras.

Going in spirals inside tubes makes you faster.

On the PC having high FPS gives you an edge, but only if we have two drivers doing a perfect race with no mistakes.

In 14.000 GTA hours I have seen two cheaters in races, usually they prefer to explode entire sessions instead of racing.

Wait until you graduate to Open Wheel class races. Then you will see carnage, literally.

This is very Helpful, thanks. I haven't even done any of the races with parachutes yet. I did some that had the oppressor and the Rocket Voltic which both have a booster. I usually come in around 3rd-5th place and even once in second and have probably done about 7-8 races, so hopefully with these tips I can come in first.
