Heard from reliable friends months ago that the deadline was a Holiday 2023 release (Oct - Dec), but can always slip into early 2024. Of course that's months old information, could have changed by now

The GTAO update being medium-sized. RDO development put on hold. Potential remasters shelved.   Rockstar is going all in to make sure GTA6 doesn't slip up into 2025/2026.

I left the forum for months and I come back just to realize there was a funeral for rdr2 and that you guys are always discussing about the same things, houser this, rockstar not the same, iv better for this, vc this, lc that, ls trash.. and now las venturas? you guys finally have lost your mind, congratulations 👏🏾

I can totally see a mission to be inspired by Sicario (the movie). Particularly the scene at the US - Mexico border.

It's fascinating how Rockstar's announcement has completely killed off the RDO subforum. People just left all of a sudden and nobody is posting anymore.

 

VI better be worth it I guess :sadkek:

Difficult to say for certain.

Based on all the leaks (mainly the 2016 Techradar report and 2018 Project Americas report) we've had over the last 5-6 years and Rockstar's own words, this is my best guess on VI's development timeline so far-

  • 2016 - RDR2 was announced. GTAVI started pre-production.
  • 2018 - RDR2 released. VI went into full production.
  • 2020 - COVID related setbacks. RDO put into backburner. Rockstar puts maximum priority on VI.
  • 2022 (so far) - Next GTA is officially teased in February.

So, if my timeline is somewhat correct, Dan Houser could very well have contributed to VI's script long before he left the company. If not, I'm curious to see what Humphries and Unsworth cook up. They've been at Rockstar for over 15 years now; certainly not amateurs by any standards.

Whenever I think about it I can hardly imagine working on two gigantic scripts like that at the same time.

That's a tricky part for sure, but Dan and co. outlined RDR2's script when GTAV was in full production, specifically around 2011-'12.

If you look at the VI situation in a similar way, Rockstar's creative team could very well have started outlining the script just a year or two before RDR2's release, similar to how they approached RDR2 when V was in full production.
