GTA 6 Speculation & Discussion [Part 6]

Mate, I'd be happy if all they did was unlock the frame rate to 60, and literally did nothing else. They'd be called lazy, of course. But the game already is a visual masterpiece, the Xbox One X version of the game is incredible. That as 60 is all we really need. Anything else is a nice bonus, as far as I'm concerned.

I think the PC Enhanced Version with 60 fps is good (like they did with gta v)

I'm basically giving them a free pass to do the bare minimum, since RDR2 holds up with current gen games. Just need 60fps.

While we're here waiting, I'm wondering, do you think, that GTA VI may be second best piece of ficton we'll play? First is of course RDRII.

I think GTA6 has the potential to outdo RDR2 in all aspects. Graphics easily, gameplay very easily, and with the right writers even the story could easily be better than RDR2s.

Eternal Moonshine

You guys are still going strong i see. I think i've had it with Rockstar. I want to play GTA VI but i'm not actively waiting for it anymore. Maybe my hype will come back once i see the game, but until then, i'm out. I hate Rockstar so much lol

Agree on the first two points however I'm not sure the stories of RDR2 and a game like GTA can be compared, very different, as the first is supposed to be relatively... historical as well. :p And the gameplay has bits that can't be compared directly too IMO. But there's a good chance it will surpass RDR2 in basically every aspect for sure, GTA VI is probably a behemoth.

If they go a more serious route like GTA4 and really spend time on developing characters GTA6 will be the game of the decade. Even though I'm a "gta6 is modern day" person, if it's in the 1980s and uses the drug trade to tell a story of a young latin american guy struggling between the drug violence and his personal beliefs, I think it would stack up really well against RDR2.

Do you mean upgrading RDR2 with an Enhanced/E&E edition for PS5/XSX? Yes. Rockstar has plans for that and I've heard about them for a long time now. But no idea when tho.

Likely doesn't have as much priority as it used to with all the focus on GTA VI. By next year, most if not all of Rockstar's workforce should be working on VI.

Does that mean that we won’t get GTAO DLC anymore next year?

People said things just like this in 2010/11 before GTA V was announced. Even right up until the game released. Many of those people ended up feeling disappointed and that GTA V was garbage compared to GTA IV.

Just keep your expectations in check. I'm sure GTA VI will be great, but breaming too much about what it could or might be is what leads most to disappointment.

Personally, I'm not trying to think about it too much. Comparing to RDR2 is all well and good. But an open wilderness setting, with small towns is a lot different from a dense city and metropolis. I think CDPR fell victim to this, going from Witcher to Cyberpunk. When you're dealing with a modern setting, a lot of the recourses you can allocate to making the world feel as interactive and alive in a game like RDR2 can be harder to do when you're dealing with so much more in a city setting. Hopefully the next-gen hardware can account for that.

I suppose all I'm saying is, I don't expect GTA VI to do everything RDR2 did, but better. Typically in games there's always something, or a few things that get cut, or feel like steps back. For technical reasons or otherwise, like design choice or setting, etc. GTA is more "arcadey", than RDR. So it likely won't need to be as immersive, as it can rely on more action heavy set pieces and high speed cars and exciting vehicles, etc.

GTA will sell no matter what.

Especially with an Online component of the game, being one of a few open-world, action-adventure online games with lots of freedom and a variety of options.

If nothing changed from last year, Rockstar is still aiming for a late 2023 - early 2024 release window. But there's always uncertainty when it comes to dates even when Rockstar officially announce them. So keep that in mind.

That is true.

The only reason I can see people saying 5 was garbage compared to 4 is the story. 5's was repetitive and the characters weren't developed enough, but other than that 5 was way better than 4 in every single other aspect.

You're right, they have less to work with environment wise and they may have pushed themselves to come up with an amazing story to make up for an empty wilderness. But I think they'll take that experience and apply it to GTA6 as well, if you can have an amazing story AND a good setting why not do it.

I'm personally not too sure about an RDR2 enhanced version either, if anything perhaps a simpler patch to unlock higher settings and frame rates. But we'll see. It would be great if they finished the Editor for that but I'm not sure.

you yourself know that R does not want to give away just a patch for red dead 2 next gen will put something more than just that and surely it will not be free
I'd be surprised if it was free xd

Hopefully we get a proper announcement this fall. Thank you for informing us Tez.

R* is known for delaying basically every single game except (more recently) RDR2 on PC and the Trilogy DE so :p I can imagine the more "green" part of the community getting really angry if that happens, but it's pretty much standard. And it's usually always been for the better, so there's that.

I think that's another one of the reasons they're being coy about GTA VI, especially given all the delays other publishers/devs are having to announce lately. I could see GTA VI being much further in development than we think too, but we'll see. They might rather wait to show something closer to the final idea than delay it a bunch or make us wait too long.

Is it weird that I'm looking forward to that? :kekw:

Late 2024 - VI releases

Don't think the story of VI will be as good as RDR 2's.

Whatever GTA 6 turns out to be I'll be always grateful to Rockstar for RDRII, you really have to believe in your vision to come up with game like this.

In other words (imo) this could mean they release it late 2024 officially, but still "r*-delay" it to 2025, if thats the case i really cant see them talking about gta-next in 2022, trailer/announcement 2023

I mostly agree, but there's a stark contrast between that situation and the one we have in hand now. Both GTAIV and GTAV were made for the same consoles from 2005-'06, but VI will be made for systems from 2020. 15 years is an eternity in tech years, basically two generations worth of improvements in hardware and developer tools. GTAVI should handily outclass GTAV technically, just for this reason alone.

A better comparison would be the technical leap from RDR1 to RDR2. RDR1 was developed primarily by R* San Diego whereas GTAV was by R* North. RDR2 was a global Rockstar Studios production and so will be GTAVI. Just like RDR1 and RDR2, GTAVI and RDR2 will have a generational gulf between their respective target consoles. Rockstar is also a much bigger company now, so it's not really a 1:1 comparison. Since many things do depend on design goals, I don't expect it to beat RDR2 on every level, but overall, GTAVI should surpass it technically, courtesy to the significantly more powerful hardware it's being built on.
