Depends on who the people are who said it. I doubt SA fans were saying that IV was a masterpiece after V came out. There were a few sure like OG who did a big 180 but not that many.

It was just a minority of gamers. Majority was nuts during the release. Everybody loved it.

Not everybody. There were a lot that complained, for various reasons. Some didn't like the multiple protagonists. But most complaints were that the map was "too small" lol

No GTA is truly divisive in a real sense. The entire GTA fanbase is large enough to populate several large real world countries. Of course it's literally impossible to make a single game that'd please everyone.

In case of IV, it was the drastic shift in tone and removal of basic features from SA that made it comparatively more divisive than other entries. And the lack of content compared to SA (EFLC did its best to alleviate that issue) also didn't help, since it was made in just 3.5 years while simultaneously working on RAGE.

 

When you look at the series, IV is a clear outlier in many ways. That's why it has a relatively smaller yet more passionate fanbase compared to, say... V or SA. But at the end of the day, a game that has a 98 MC score and has sold over 32m copies (probably over 40m by now) is not truly divisive by any possible metric.

 

I like the fact that every GTA game is different in many key ways, although the core design behind it is still following the steps shown in GTA III. That makes each game feel fresh and unique despite the familiar gameplay loop. That along with the long gap between sequels are a big reason why it still hasn't gotten homogenous, like Assassin's Creed or Call of Duty or Far Cry etc.

What amazed me the most with this guy is how he would come here, look at our posts and then use it as GTA VI leaks materials. Remember that time when I made a fan-made GTA VI logo and then he used it as his profile picture and showed it to his Twitter followers without even crediting me? Or that time when I made a satirical post where I prentended to be a GTA VI leaker and proceeded to make a list of things that would be in GTA VI and then he used that "leak" on Twitter and pass it off as real? And then when someone called him out because they saw my original post on GTAForums he deleted it and never mentioned it again? This guy is f*cking hilarious and pathetic at the same time

See, I genuinely don't know if it's some dumb kid who's young, gullible and too excited, so they fall for anything. Gta 5 will be 10 years old in Sept 2023 and yet no blip of 6.

 

When Gta 4 came out I loved 3d era games in those days until I played IV and V in 2019 or 2020 for the first time on my pc. I used to hate damage system, physics of cars and such before playing IV, now I use Car God mode and such for that from trainers.

 

However 5 is just too large to handle and lack of small details like 4 so I don't know what I will really want.

 

But I do love from Gta 3 till 5 and maybe 1, 2, Advance, Ctw a bit.

These next few weeks are going to be tough as we move into June. Even though there is no E3 this year all these conferences/events going on is a fake leakers paradise

Let's look at it that way. Vice City's 20th Anniversary is in late October. If the Project Americas leak and all other rumblings are to be believed GTA VI will be - at least partly - set in Vice City. It doesn't take much to figure out when Rockstar will properly reveal GTA VI then.

Late October it is and until then enjoy GTAV, IV, The Trilogy, etc. ... still a roughly five months' wait/info drought ahead of us. That is before the next one starts, you all know the drill. Hahahaha.

I don't want to send this topic off on a tangent (given it's already about a game that doesn't exist yet), but how long do we all see GTA VI's lifespan being?

Time between big budget mainline releases is only getting longer and longer, and live service online elements are exacerbating that further.

 

I can realistically see 2038 (lmao, depressing much... in my flipping 40s) being the year the next GTA comes out, assuming VI comes out in 2024.

 

I do think conventional single player games are going to be around for decades to come, and will only become grander (and therefore better) in scale... but the downside is that AAA series are only going to be seeing one release a decade, if that. Heck, even Assassin's Creed might go onto a... *gulp* 3 year release cycle.

 

I also think that by the end of VI's lifespan, the online portion will be a fully standalone live service game that simply just has new maps etc. added to it. That might even happen right at the beginning of its lifecycle tbh. GTA:O simply just turns into a launcher and you select which map you want to play.

With GTA V even AFTER we had official footage it was fake leakers paradise (mostly on forums like this, and others, and we still had fake videos that looked nothing like the real game lmao) so that's also gonna be fun
