GTA 6 Speculation & Discussion [Part 6]

I still think the best way to increase Rockstar's output is to make smaller games in between flagship titles and online content updates that leverages existing tech heavily from previous games since a brand new game will almost always sell better than any single player expansion.

Smaller games could theoretically let them get more creative and more willing to take on themes, settings they otherwise wouldn't. Try to revive and reboot older, dormant IPs. Make smaller open worlds with more density. Obviously they'd have to expand heavily too given the current landscape of game development, otherwise there's no way you're gonna see more than a couple of games a decade from them (plus online content), especially games with GTA V or RDR2's scale.

All that being said, it still depends of whether they actually want to make games more frequently or not and that's a tough f*cking question to answer.

That would be my dream scenario. Rockstar having a dedicated, smaller group working on 'smaller' games which would release between the 'big' releases. I mean take the R.A.G.E. engine from RDR1/GTA IV and create new, fresh experiences with it. GTA Carcer City, Red Dead Revolution, Bully Year II, Midnight Club New York, Max Payne Adventures of New Jersey, Table Tennis 2 and so on ... the list could be endless and full of fun and great experiences. Then every 6-9 years you get a big release like GTA VI or Red Dead Redemption 3.

Honestly if I'd be in charge of things at Rockstar I'd coordinate it so this vision could happen.

Cue Grove Street Studio stepping up to the task :D

I like the idea of Rockstar releasing some smaller games between the big ones, but why would they use an old version of the RAGE engine? That does not make any sense.

I mean they can very much use the latest tech (and would if they were to do that) to make smaller games. Thing is, R* is a sucker for massive detail, even a tiny game would be a big undertaking for them, their whole philosophy is about cramming games with detail, making it immersive, etc. If they already do it with the big games, imagine small games, it would take long to release them too. :p

I was about to play RDR1 yesterday and it just spoke to me.

RDR1: Have you talked to that guy Emmi on GTAForums again?

Me: Why u ask?

RDR1: Tell him to leave me alone now would you?

Me: I'll do my best.

Emmi, leave a fella to its peace!

I really hope the country side is more like rdr2, I felt like I could get lost, the sense of scale is incredible compared to gtav, in v I never felt like I was lost, I never got the sense of scale, it felt like the whole map was just a model if you know what I mean. Even San Andreas I felt that lost feeling, although I think part of that was due to the draw distance and fog. I also think the map layout in San Andreas made it feel more grand than it was. I feel like if the desert was behind mt chilliad it would've actually felt like I was hundreds of miles away from Los Santos and not bike ride away. Lol

Even in the most deserted areas in GTAV (and especially online) you can still clearly see signs of civilization and big towns/cities, I hope too that we'll get a properly large area that is just nature and maybe some dirt trails

I only remember feeling lost when I first visited Sandy Shores before the story brought me there.
Other than that, the main reason you never feel lost is cause we have fast vehicles... plus it's been 10 years, everyone know San Andreas now... hell I watch BayAreaBuggs and Jeff Favignano and company videos and they know exactly each single street name :kekw:

Ever seen the streamers who roleplay in GTA FiveM?

Their map knowledge is absolutely bonkers. Every street by heart, all the landmarks, shops, secrets, hiding spots, ramps, etc etc.

Yeah I know :kekw: and sometimes they even correct each other in videos like "No there's no RON station on that road, you need to go there". Not to mention ZIP codes :sadkek:

So do you think GTA VI will have wildlife on the same level as RDR2? Like fully interactable and you can ride horses, etc? That'd be insane and amazing. The next step for GTA.

It'd be pretty cool if there'd be a Guarma-like moment in GTA6 where the gameplay completely changes.

I am not a fan of these one-time visit locations such as North Yankton in GTAV or Guarma in RDR2. North Yankton in specific I would love to revisit whenever I want to. Such a great location only used for two missions.

Guarma was originally intended to be fully explorable (and most likely there was the ability to visit it again any time we wanted to), there's so much detail put into it there's just no way it was created for one chapter.

Of course, either due to time constraints or due to hardware limitations, that idea had to be scrapped and we instead got a small part of Guarma for one (relatively) short chapter.

As much as it hurts me that we won't get to play it any time soon, I hope Rockstar Games takes their time and delays the game as much as possible, so that in the end we don't end up with a bunch of cool features that were cut out of the game.

With Cayo Perico being explorable (with some restrictions tho) I can definitely see R* implement something similar for VI where we'll be able to fully explore a secondary location after the story is completed, or from the moment we're first introduced to it

Cut content is inevitable in every game as devs experiment with things unfortunately, so even if they take their time to implement everything the way they fully want to, there'll always be a change of mind at some point, or some other reason that causes a feature to be cut. If you go and datamine other famous AAA games like, say The Last of Us or the Horizon games you'll see cut stuff too. :p

Yeah.. I was mainly referring to the stuff that gets cut out of the game due to time constraints (e.g. a feature is bugged and the devs don't have time to fix it so they just cut it out of the final product). :D

We're never gonna see that end, though.

Fans of games (especially GTA fans, for whatever reason) have the tendency to prop up cut content as some mythical thing that we got shafted on but that's very rarely the case, if ever. Cut content will always exist in video games, it's a nature of the beast, just like we get cut scenes in films/TV, etc.

It's better to think of it as content cut simply because it wasn't good enough or they could never make work and thus never prioritised, and not content that the devs never got the time to finish.

The cut content might sound good on paper but or through some unfinished mechanics in-game but that doesn't mean it'd actually be good or work in the full game.

I expect a great wildlife and maybe a Zoo with rhynos, elephants, girafes, pandas, gorillas, hippos, lions. And obviously you can free them to the town.

They can amp up the AI of certain animals, like cats and birds, add relevant animals to specific locations (alligators and snakes in swamps, crabs on beaches and dogs downtown). But I do not think the game needs advanced wildlife.

Detailed wildlife fit RDR2, mainly because it's a slow, methodical western where you mainly ride in the wild, and have to focus and pay attention to detail to appreciate it.

But this is GTA.

Most ppl would be too absorbed trying out gameplay mechanics or exploring the world to pay attention to wildlife detail. I'm no exception.

So it would seem like a waste of effort on R*'s part to devote resources to a non-central game mechanic/detail.

Don't get me wrong. It would be great for a wide variety of animals to be present with amazing detailed behaviours.

But if the speculation surrounding the game being set in Vice City is true, it might seem out of place in that kind of game to be riding a horse. Honestly, I'd rather be cruising in my car, with my speakers at max to annoy peds.

NPC detail, combat detail, car mechanics and world detail are more relevant areas to focus on.

If they can make a way to tie in animal detail to enhancing the overall experience and gameplay, then that's a win-win.

Honestly,  i can easily wait 2 -3 years untill launch if it means a better game then rdr2 but they definitely need to announce it this year with a teaser trailer like rdr2 .
