I remember this, such a good deed from Rockstar, even surprised me a bit considering how secretive they are about their games.

I would never except the reveal to be that  outside of the box this time around! Look what i found on my trip in Budapest.

That's probably why they said next title and not Gta Vi!

Why doesn't GTA Online have more brand collaborations?

Quote

"The world of GTA is a fictional world, so to bring real-life brands in, they really have to be iconic and they have to fit within that world," Zelnick says.

"It's very much a creative decision driven by the team at Rockstar. It's not a financial decision. We run all of our businesses here in an effort to engage and captivate consumers, and then we figure monetization takes care of itself. We wouldn't include a brand just based on a financial opportunity in any of our titles."

"There are other titles that are really well suited to involving brands and even having direct advertising, NBA is one of them, PGA is another. When you involve yourself with those games in the real world, you have an expectation of seeing advertisers and sponsors. But you don't really have that expectation in Grand Theft Auto, except for fictional brands. So to bring a real-world experience in requires a lot of thought and sensitivity to consumers, and I think that's what Rockstar Games is known for."

Maybe 6 to 8 years from now on the situation may change in ways we can't really predict but for GTA VI I wouldn't expect too much deviation from the signature satirically distorted world building that we all know and love.

Spoiler

Looking at the real world persons who appeared in GTA physically or in radio stations as themselves, from Phil Collins to Dr. Dre, Karl Lagerfeld to Juliette Lewis, Ricky Gervais to Katt Williams, Solomun to Jesco White, The Black Madonna to Keinemusik, Frankie Boyle to DJ Pooh plus many many others (and our dear old Lazlow :sadkek:), it clearly feels like they were introduced in the games primarily because higher ups at Rockstar very likely were fans of their work and wanted to work with them, not just for commercial reasons. It's certainly not a co-incidence that Phil Collins was the first real person to physically appear in GTA when you know about Sam Houser's taste in music, movies and television. Same goes for Dr. Dre's involvement.

Or take a look at the two new real world clothing brands (Civilist and MISBHV) introduced in the Cayo Perico update, which most likely happened due to Keinemusik's involvement with both parties, especially Sam Houser on Rockstar's side.

So in my opinion, there's no reason to worry about seeing more and more mainstream brands advertising in GTA, at least not in this very moment.

That article also has a lot of insight about what T2 wants from Zynga and VI's expectations. No, Zelnick isn't gonna force GTA Online/Red Dead mobile or something lmao, he says although Zynga working on some less casual franchises would be a nice to have, it's not a MUST have, and :

Quote

"In terms of whether we'll be able to create hits out of legacy core Take-Two IP, it remains to be seen," Zelnick says. "We think it's an exciting opportunity, but hit ratios for mobile are indeed much lower than they are for console and PC, and we have a healthy respect for that."

Say what you want about Strauss, but this guy knows how to do business, especially now that he is probably looking to get the rights of FIFA to 2K Games or something.

It would be terrible to think about this break GTA lore and parody.
I remember reading something that Everywhere had rumors/patents for real world ads and advertising space. With the release of albums in GTA Online, real artists, real peoples.....maybe real ads, it's a big step but unavoidable in this corporatist vision.

I really hope not now, maybe in GTA VII 2035

Few years ago I'd agree with you, but looking at Take-Two today I think as a games publisher they're run pretty poorly. They are still massively dependent on R* and NBA, hence why GTAO has lived for so long and why we keep seeing R* remasters, they're the only reliable sellers. Beyond R* and NBA though their output is shockingly bad for a publisher of their size and value. Their list of games published is embarrassingly low on quantity and diversity.

Also the Fifa license is absolutely worthless, and Fifa will learn that quickly. If anyone pays Fifa for that I'll genuinely be very surprised, it gives you absolutely nothing of value beyond the name "Fifa" and the world cup which comes about once every four years. It's much more likely that Fifa will seek out developers to make a game for them, and in that instance a big publisher will be very cautious of going head to head with EA with Fifa due the massive investment required in the licenses for the leagues, teams and players. The only reason EA and Fifa split up is because Fifa thought they were brought more to the table than they actually did and wanted far more money, I don't like EA and what they've done in recent years with Fifa (the game), but they were absolutely in the right to tell those corrupt f*cks to piss off.

I'm kinda sad to see what 2K sports has become back in the day they had titles in multiple sports NFL,NHL, NBA,MLB. Today it's just mainly two though that depends if you consider wrestling a sport. It's more like 2K Sport not 2K sports.

That's basically Rockstar Games case right now too, they only rely on GTA and Red Dead games nowadays, Rockstar Games needs some serious expansion to be able to work in multiple titles at the same time without having to wait half a decade for a new game.

I'm sure he knows how to do business better than any of us. I mean, we might dislike the direct or indirect effect of some of his decisions in our gaming lives, but Strauss wouldn't be where he currently is if he wasn't a capable professional.

Then there's the rest of 2K. We give Rockstar a lot of sh*t but Ken Levine has been working on a game for like 8 years now and nothing has been heard since

T2 are basically on record saying they want to expand their sports games - NBA, golf, a lego football game is rumoured too. It would be unwise to simply go "nah, we're not interested".

Getting the Fifa name on your box isn't as valuable as Fifa thinks though. In truth for a football game these days gameplay isn't top dog as much as it pains to me to say it, nor is the quality of the various modes. Authenticity is what truly sells a football game, being able to play as hundreds of different teams across dozens of leagues, in real world stadiums with real world players.

I'd love for 2K to get involved, cause current Fifa sorely needs some competition to restore the importance of gameplay and the quality of the modes, but yea, it'd be a very very expensive sports game to get involved in. A lot of the licenses EA have are exclusive and multi-year so you'd either have to outbid them when they come up, or somehow convince the various leagues and whatnot to drop exclusivity, which will be tough. Eitherway it'd be a lot of money to have to spend just to get at the table.

Can probably put a bit of that blame on T2 too. I think they've clamped down in recent years but T2 do typically give more freedom to their studios (especially their creative ones, aka not 2K Sports) which can lead to messy development. Need a bit of order in there still and if you don't have anyone in the studio to do it the publisher needs to step in and do it them selves. Remember Anthem? We all thought it was EA... but it was actually BioWare with no restrictions lol.

His games aren't for me, but Kojima's good at having the balance I think.

I still think the best way to increase Rockstar's output is to make smaller games in between flagship titles and online content updates that leverages existing tech heavily from previous games since a brand new game will almost always sell better than any single player expansion.

Smaller games could theoretically let them get more creative and more willing to take on themes, settings they otherwise wouldn't. Try to revive and reboot older, dormant IPs. Make smaller open worlds with more density. Obviously they'd have to expand heavily too given the current landscape of game development, otherwise there's no way you're gonna see more than a couple of games a decade from them (plus online content), especially games with GTA V or RDR2's scale.

All that being said, it still depends of whether they actually want to make games more frequently or not and that's a tough f*cking question to answer.

You know something I'd like to see? More 3D era games like the ones from the PS2 (I don't mind if the graphics aren't super realistic like most games nowadays) "GTA Carcer City" "Red Dead Rebellion" or stuff like that.

That's exactly why I said earlier that I want a GTA San Andreas Stories somewhere after GTA 6, to ease up the wait until their next games, maybe set in 1987 so we could see Brian's death and CJ leaving or maybe in 1990 so they wouldn't have to change much in its world, I think a team of 100 developers and maybe 100 actors could pull it off easily, so Rockstar wouldn't lose too much manpower to those projects, while the most part of it would be working on RDR3 or something.
