Yes. It's not even improbable; rather, it's impossible.

 

Rockstar is very likely planning to drop support of the PS4/XOne version of GTAO in favor of E&E in near future and they'd want VI and it's online mode to last for at least 6-8 years. For this exact reason it's practically meaningless to make a last gen version of VI. It's extra work and headache to support machines that are woefully underpowered and already discontinued by the Sony and Microsoft. RDR2 (or full GTAO lobbies) already struggles on last gen consoles in many areas and all of those problems will be amplified in VI. They'd have to alter basic design decisions that are easier said than done.

 

Also you can see most cross gen games don't really sell that much in last gen consoles. Current gen consoles will reach close to 90-100m sales mark by the time VI comes out (possibly in mid-late 2024) anyway so it's not like initial sales would potentially suffer either.

He is just salty because he doesn’t have a PS5/XBSX so he is trying to convince himself that it will be cross-gen. This is exactly like the people crying about Spider-Man 2 being a PS5 exclusive, they will go on and tell you that these games need to be cross-gen because "it will sell better" or "It will make more money" like why the f*ck would you even care about how much money the company makes ? If anything you should be rooting for the game to be next-gen because it means that the game won’t be held back by last-gen consoles and will be able to use the full capabilities of the current-gen consoles

The cross-gen period is on it's last run now, with most major new releases now being current gen exclusive. Sports titles will be the last to stop as per usual, but major non-sports releases are all increasingly current gen exclusive, we're evening seeing last-gen versions getting cancelled (Gotham Knights).

 

So yea, I'll say it, GTA VI will 100% be current gen exclusive.

i'll do you guys one better. obviously they will not only release gta 6 for current gen and last gen, but even for the gen before that one, aka the 360 and ps3!

 

my logic? you will reach the millions of users that still own the 360/ps3. rockstar don't want to miss out on that. there are at the least still 2 million log-ins per day on the 360, on gta 4 alone!

Even if it gets announced this year, which while likely still isnt 100% guaranteed, its going to be way too late to be put on previous gen (PS4/Xbox One).
If we look at the life span of previous gen consoles which was 7 years, and assume current gen will last the same amount of time, a 2023-2025 release date window for GTA 6 would be right in the middle of current gen's (PS5/Xbox Series X) lifespan. It makes very little sense to release on previous gen at this point.
Also need to factor in how much previous gen will hold back the game too, just look at cyberpunk for example, that was really badly held back by previous gen consoles and that should be a technically less impressive game then GTA VI.

 

GTA VI will be cross-gen, but with current gen (PS5/Xbox Series X) and next gen (PS6/Xbox Whatever), not with previous gen. That will be long out the picture by release day

People believe anything that gives them hope. In this instance, they can't get a PS5 or series X, so they hope it comes to PS4/X1, in hopes they'll be able to play it.

 

What they don't think about, is the fact that the game won't even be releasing for 2+ years. They have plenty of time to get one.
