Keep in mind GTA VI started pre production in 2014,and then full production started 2017-2018.

Which means announcement is definitely happening this year.

Real announcement: September-November 2022

Consoles release: September-November 2024

PC release: September-November 2025

I would say announcement this May,with relase date in Spring 2024.

I think they were targeting 2023 relase date but COVID hit us and that caused delay by 3-6 months.

Any dev/pub that leaves out day 1 PC releases these days is just f*cking clueless for me. Looking at Sony as well when I say this.

 

It's such a huge platform for games these days with lot of young kids now wanting PC's as that's what the people they watch play on. That's not to mention the fact that PC versions are capable (and are) outselling some console platforms, and PC versions typically have better sales legs as well.

Everyone who has PCs and consoles get the console version first then the dev publishes the PC version so they get that version too because if they release same day then the players would just get the PC version because it's usually better versus getting both

The overlap of people who own high end PC's and consoles isn't crazy and double dipping may work for something as big as GTA V but it's not viable for most publishers.

 

Considering we keep seeing publishers say how they need to bump the price up for games, charge for next gen upgrades etc (*cough* Take Two *cough*) for them to only then go and not release their new game on the biggest platform is completely f*cking stupid.

 

 

Lets just not even getting into the increasingly platform agnostic nature of the industry driven in large part by subscription services like Games Pass, making the whole approach massively archaic.

In 2018, PC was (and still is) a very big market, and Rockstar still didn't launched RDR2 on PC together with the console versions. I don't think this will change now, sadly

they probably won't do day-one PC because they know they can count on many of us double dipping - i sure as hell will, and have for each game since gta 4.

it's not about anything else, the fact that rdr2 took over a year to crack on PC is proof of that imo. if it were about piracy a year of lead time would be more than enough to make their money back.

Probably, Rockstar gonna Rockstar but other publishers shouldn't be following suit, it won't work as well for them and just pisses off what could be a thriving customerbase for them.

 

To put it another way, you know the industry is f*cked up when one of if not the biggest company in it, Microsoft, is by far away the most pro-consumer publisher in it these days. Great value subscription service, console and PC day 1 releases, streaming, the works.

 

Meanwhile Sony out here holding back PC versions we know they have in development, charging for next-gen upgrades and forcing service based games on their developers which undoubtedly led to the trainwreck that is Gran Turismo 7. Take away their great single player exclusives and PlayStation has gone to sh*t right now.

I was speaking generally, not exclusively for R*.

 

They're leaving money on the table by delaying the PC release, especially when they launch at discounted prices which Sony games have been doing in particular.

Are they? Didnt GTAV and RDR2 both launch at full retail price on PC? R* knows how tempting their games are to play and know full and well that PC players would buy a whole ass console just to play their games until it releases on PC so they can go at it again. Unlike R* though, Sony has a good reason for spacing out the PC releases of their games

Seems we do have to get into this? The industry is fast becoming platform agnostic with subscription services being at the core of this, with the industry moving away from buying into individual platforms. MS w/ Games Pass, Sony with their PS Now revamp, EA, Ubi, Google, Apple and more all venturing into subscription services of their own or partnering with other established subscription services. 

 

Also the best selling game of the year, and most critically acclaimed thus far, was day 1 on PC and sold best on PC. Sony bumped up game prices and charge for next-gen upgrades to off-set rising costs while leaving the option to release their exclusives at full price day 1 on the table.

 

Exclusives are out dated from both the platform ecosystem point of view and a financial point of view.

 

*note: I am not saying we'll stop buying games full stop, however subscription services will definitely become the core of the vast majority of peoples gaming libraries in future.

 

tl;dr: exclusives and delayed PC releases are dead m8

 

Edit: Also while I'm here, truth be told I do actually expect VI to launch day 1 on PC. I expect GTAO2 to be far more robust in terms of security because a lot of GTAO's current problems are tied to their sh*tty p2p system that wasn't at all developed with what GTAO is today in mind, plus the FiveM audience is pretty huge these days so they'll wanna tap into that.
