Enough of the new stuff. This damn technology. I hate the hacking and mobile phone parts of GTA V/O. It's one of the main reasons I want a past setting.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves alright, I just said it's more likely for GTA 6 to be in a modern setting because that's what most players would like, don't take it personally.

I don't know who you asked, but that's wrong. There's a thread on this forum dedicated to this question. It has a poll. Hundreds of people have cast their vote - and the majority want a past setting.

 

Just because you want a modern setting doesn't mean "most players" would like that.

 

By the way, I'm also expecting a modern setting, although I'd prefer past.

GTAForums users don't represent the entirety of the GTA fanbase, not even close, maybe 0,50-1%.

might I add that this forum does in no way reflect the R* games/GTA playerbase? I think we're maybe like 5% of the playerbase if not less so that poll really means nothing beside what the opinion is on this forum; not the majority of players

I simply don't rely on polls which doesn't represents the entire GTA fanbase, simple as that.

There are exactly 840,409 users at this moment on GTAForums, not to mention the ones who have more than 1 account, GTA 5 has already sold what? 160 million copies? Considering the people who bought it more than once, maybe we're looking at 100 million players more or less, so GTAForums represents at maximum 1% of the entire GTA fanbase, which is a huge deal, don't get me wrong, but it doesn't represents every single GTA player wishes.

I will be disappointed if there is no a hot couple as protagonists!! at least there should be a option to have romance with a 80s girl and have a trip to Vice City and countryside....and they should make some story and more for that....!! more than the romances in The Witcher 3!

Dan Houser doesn't even work at Rockstar Games anymore, and if he loves the 80's so much, why didn't GTA 4 and/or GTA 5 take place in it? My Lord... Your arguments aren't even good at least, a game being in a modern setting don't have to be like Saints Row or Watch Dogs, I don't see anyone beating someone up with a giant dildo when I get out of my home in real life, neither flying on top of a giant drone.

Sure R* will do what they want, but they're also going to think of what the majority of the playerbase would want. And it so happens that the majority of the playerbase for GTA are casual players that aren't really Rockstar fans and they just play GTA because it's GTA. A modern day setting, or at the very least 2010+, would appeal the most to them so purely from a business pov, making it a modern setting would make the most sense

It's a mix of both. Rockstar have their own vision for these things and will do what they want or what is best for the project. At the same time, places like GTAF (and elsewhere like social media/Reddit) are a good source of unadulterated feedback that they can use in conjunction with their usual analytics to see what kind of features or wishes players are talking about the most.

The thing is the 1980's happened from 30 to 40 years ago by now, unlike when GTA Vice City released, where its story was only 16 years prior to the game's release, I don't think Rockstar wants GTA 6's story this far back on the past by now, it isn't Red Dead, maybe it can be set in the 2000's or the 2010's (around GTA 5's story setting), but very unlikely in the 70's, 80's or 90's.

I honestly wouldn't mind the 90's or early 00's. Don't really care what time, just please not the present. 

It's been done for the past 9 years, I fear not that much will change from present day LS to present day VC.

 

Plus, as I already said, I hate the mobile phones. At least the way they were used in V. With no option to mute. Such a pain in the ass.

Maybe the game can have a prologue in the 1990's too, I remember a rumor which said GTA 6's story would be based around the Madrazo family, so maybe we would play as a younger Martin showing how he got all his power? But remember, it's just a rumor and probably it's fake.

GTA6 is definitely gonna be modern day but I would personally love a DLC game that takes place in the same setting but in the past. Doubt rockstar would do that tho

I read that rumor aswell some time ago but I felt it would be completely out of place. Remember, Madrazo was nothing more than a joke in V. I couldn't take that guy seriously in the end. To give that much attention to a character that is nothing more than a punching bag when he's supposed to be this big, feared crime-lord. Totally unnecessary.

 

I'd much rather they focus on new characters and set themselves free from all of those caricatures from V.

I look at this way, I should make something that keeps the OG fans and also brings new players for online!

I remember in one of deepthroat topics he said (not sure if he is real deepthroat) that game is in 70s/80s/90s but R*will add modern settings to online as an expansion later! 
It can make both past settings and modern settings happy!

It's just my opinion that Modern Settings like +2018 doesn't work for a GTA world anymore why? 
Because no matter how they make the game, everyone will be offended like black matters community - non binary community - LGBT community - Violence in Mexico/South America/China/Russia - ETC!
It can be dangerous for R* that makes edgy games and it limits their creative minds!
+ If they want to make realistic modern settings GTA they should bring drones-internet tracking-hidden cameras-finger print - ... to the game!! these stuff will limit players experience and kills the fun of GTA series! 

IMO this is the best option: a detailed deep world ((I don't care about No details big world like 70% of GTAV's map that most of time you just fly over them it's boring!)) in Vice City + Liberty City + Mexico + Cuba in 70s/80s + Online in 90s can work better! 
Take2 boss said even after GTA VI's online, GTAO will live and it gets update! so it's dumb to have two modern settings GTAO!!! a 90s GTAO for VI can work too!  

But Important question remains, WTF means moderately sized release? I guess it's about expansions for the map but not sure if it includes story mode too!!!! if it's the case imaging they launch the game in 70s and with next update you continue the story(maybe with a new protagonist) in 80s and next update in 90s...next one in 00s ....!!!!!! what ever it is, it's going to be mind blowing!!

I agree, maybe he was more dangerous in the past though, I just want a new game already, I don't care who the main character is, Martin Madrazo, Juan Strickler (El Rubio), a gay protagonist, a woman, whatever it is.
