You could get lost just listening to the menu themes for GTA's. However IV's slowed down rendition of Michael Hunter's Soviet Connection played during the pause menu is still as iconic for me as it was when i first heard it.

 

It's chilling, really did set the tone of IV.

I know, The Ballad of Gay Tony's pause menu theme also deserves a special mention too, but the thing about GTA 5's is that it reminds me of Max Payne 3's Panama mission theme and that mission is dark af.

It is a remix of Max: Panama (or the other way around, depending on when each was made during development) I believe.  Both were probably made around the same time given both games were in development tbh.

I know most will say Midnight Club 3: Dub Edition is the best (which is hard to disagree) but Midnight Club II will always be my #1 when it comes to Rockstar’s racing games.

This is not true at all, every AAA game is guaranteed to have a fair share of haters all around, especially amongst fans of the same franchise, look at us, we are at war 24/7 here, but hey, it can pretty fun as well

I don't know about rethink your whole life but the main menu music and visuals of Disco Elysium sets up the atmosphere and tone of it's world extremely well

mafia II, one of the best ever. the visuals paired with the music creates a heavy, foreboding atmosphere

The GTA V pause theme is actually a simplified version of an unused piece of soundtrack Tangerine Dream composed for the game. It's called Greyhound and the stems for the song are still present in the game files.

Here's a custom mix of that theme:

 

 

Fun fact: Tangerine Dream actually released a full scale remix of the song as part of one of their albums:

I don't think GTA 5's characters are THAT underdeveloped, I mean, the game don't need to tell the entire lives of the characters, plus it was the first time Rockstar made a game with three protagonists, if they'll ever do this again (GTA 6?!), I'm sure they'll improve upon it, not to mention that GTA 5 has a pretty accessible story, it's neither too short or too long, I love RDR2, but damn it feels like another job to finish it, especially if you're a completionist such as me, its story is almost perfect, but extremely long.

Wow, I didn't know about this version! Interesting, I wonder if this is an old variation they never used/released or if the current members of TD remixed it for that compilation - could have been an Ulrich Schnauss remix. RIP Edgar Froese, I knew about TD way before GTA V released due to the influence of one of my relatives listening to Tangerine Dream sometimes and having a couple of their LP's, I was really pleased when I found out they were doing the GTA V soundtrack.
