Even if there's too few current gen consoles when the game is supposed to release, they'd just delay it or release it on pc at the same time. There's really no way VI will be cross-gen

Only if it's PS5-PS6. I do not see any scenario with a PS4 release.

i will await user Zapper's response to make a sensible judgement regarding a cross-gen release

If you look at sales charts you can see how quickly software sales are declining on last gen consoles, even for cross gen games. Microsoft already stopped producing last gen consoles and Sony most likely will pull the plug in near future. Those machines are basically dead in water now. 

Now for GTAVI, a late 2023 release is extremely optimistic imo, it'll most likely be pushed to mid-late 2024 and at that point there's next to no chance of it coming out on last gen consoles. They'll build this game to last at least this decade, there's not a chance in hell of it being cross gen unless it's PS5 and PS6 cross gen .

I have just dusted my old PlayStation 2, I really hope that I'll be able to play Grand Theft Auto VI on that machine.

When I see people arguing that GTAVI should also be available on PS4 and Xbox One because "Take-Two will make more money" or "More people will be able to play it" I immediatly know that deep down, they are just saying this because they don't have a PS5 or an Xbox Series X|S so they desperetaly hope they will be able to play it on their 9 year old, slow ass console that is basically on life support at this point.

on yesterdays topic of south america, islands and cayo perico, i began speculating on what R* might do in terms of multiplayer

 

imagine if the end goal for players in VI’s online was to claim a remote south american island of their own. it would start off bare and empty but over time players could add and upgrade the islands buildings, defenses, storage points and hire npc guards. the end result being something similar to cayo perico. not a part of the main map but accessible via a cutscene 

 

of course this could easily be a part of the single player, but I cant help imagining a system similar to MGSVs online motherbase mode, where players could build their own unique motherbase and also raid other players bases. if the attacking player was detected, the defending player had a chance to retaliate and raid that persons base. people on your friends list could defend your base too if you werent online.

 

it just seems like something i could see if the game does indeed revolve around the south american drug trade. imagine attempting to infiltrate another players own personal island to steal their contraband and other valuables

I'm thinking what a GTA that would cover all of the US would look like. Like a redux version, including GTA V's LS, GTA IV's LC, and a new Vice City, perhaps a fictional version of the US missing some of the major cities so they wouldn't need to go all out with creating a ton of fully fledged new cities to match real life counterparts, but with random smaller towns, villages, mountain ranges and such in the middle, packed with detail. Taking like actually 30 minutes IRL to go from VC to LS

You would have a map the size of switzerland with cities the size of a village

Exactly, and it's starting to become annoying too. Just yesterday, I was watching the Gran Turismo 7 intro that was posted on PlayStation's YouTube channel and literally 1/3 of the comments were people complaining about not being able to play it on PS5 (despite the game being cross-gen). I saw the same thing with Horizon Forbbiden West. But compared to that, what shocked me the most was seeing hundreds of people literally crying, getting upset and complaining about Marvel's Spider-Man 2 being a PS5 exclusive. I see people saying dumb sh*t like "This game won't survive if you don't put it on PS4", "This game will flop because no one has a PS5" or even straight up "Stop selling and advertising PS5 games because none of us have one." These people are literally begging Sony to either make every PS5 games also available on PS4 or straight up demanding that they stop making content for the PS5. Like I get that many people can't get a PS5 or an Xbox Series X|S, but literally begging these companies to make every games cross-gen or stop making next-gen games is baffingly pathetic

LOL. Rockstar didn't attend an event they weren't announced to be attending and wouldn't have been showing GTA 6 at if they had attended. GTA 6 must be cancelled.

Well, they could offer us a bigger map with almost as many missions as in GTA V in order to try to release it *earlier* (Maybe some places wouldn't be used in the campaign like in GTA V). And the rest of the missions they had planned and couldn't finish would be repurposed for online.

 

I wouldn't mind that if in the end we still got a *good game*.
