Cannot apply custom license plate to Remus

For some reason, I don't have the option to apply any custom license plates to the Remus in Los Santos Customs, though I can do it to any other vehicle.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

There are two scenarios for your problem.

You reached "CAP_FOR_EXPLOIT_LEVEL_4" because of duping, and now you are locked out of custom plates in all vehicles, until your probation period ends.

Your current plate on it was dupe detected and you cannot change it, any two identical plates that are not on iFruit app, will make it get dupe detected.

There are several scenarios where your plate got dupe detected.

You have been duping using a method that makes "dirty dupes" and your plate was flagged.

You received a car from "Give Cars To Friends" glitch and the game saw both cars spawned at the same time with the same plate and flagged it.

You received more than one car from "Give Cars To Friends" glitch with identical custom plates and it got flagged.

You have a plate made with "Charles Proxy" that have invalid characters such as $$, and even that you have the plate on iFruit, the game cannot check the ownership, so having more than two of these will trigger a false positive.

Once a car goes dupe detected it get's locked out from plate changing and the sell value gets decreased according with your current "exploit level".

Selling this car might raise your "exploit level", so if you wanna get rid of it just fill a garage a place a street car over it to delete it.

If you really want to keep it, you can use a merge glitch to change the plate or dupe it with a clean plate and delete the old dirty one.

Actually, I don’t think it’s any of these.

When I brought the Remus, it ended up having the same license plate as another car I have (Romero Hearse, which I also brought legitimately), which is why I wanted to change the plate on the Remus, so it wouldn’t have the same number as the Romero Hearse (88IDN320). In case you’re wondering, I actually keep track of all the license plates on the vehicles I own.

I wonder if this very unlikely coincidence trigged the flag?

Any identical plates trigger the dupe detection, the Hearse probably also have the plate locked from changing as well.

Try deleting the hearse and buying another one to see if it fixes the problem on the Remus. Don't sell either car or you will end up losing access to your custom plates and have a daily sell limit of one car every 30 hours. You might have to use the iFruit app to change plates on the Remus after the hearse is gone.

I can still change the plate on the Hearse though.

It's probably just the Remus that is dupe detected for having the same plate. You might have to delete but not sell the Remus.

This happened to me on a couple of different accounts. Once when I accidentally merged a couple of cars with a car that didn't have custom plates and I ended up with 2 cars that had the same plate. Another time I used a give cars to friends glitch to get an Elegy Retro on a different account but the Elegy had a custom plate that I didn't own on my other account. Somthing that hasn't happened to me but I've seen is that you can have custom plates on a car and then delete them from iFruit. In all those cases you can't put a custom plate on that car anymore and if you sell it you will be screwed. I sold my car that had the same non custom plate as another car I owned and I sold the Elegy with the custom plate I didn't own. When I sold those cars I lost access to my custom plates and couldn't put them on anything and I had a daily sell limit of one car every 30 hours.

I think the best thing you can do is try changing the plate through the iFruit app and if that doesn't work then delete the car by putting it in a full garage and either driving a street car in to replace it or buy another Remus over it. In my opinion a million dollar car is not worth the risk of losing custom plates and have a sell limit of one car every 30 hours and that will happen if you forget and sell it one day. It only takes an hour to do a Cayo Perico heist to get the money to replace and upgrade the car.

Also never delete a custom plate on iFruit that you have on any car that you currently own or you won't be able to change the plates on that car after that.

I don’t sell my more expensive vehicles, though.

I’ve decided to just keep the plate as it is on the Remus and changed the plate on the Romero Hearse that had the same number as the Remus to 63XYZ315.

Will doing this have any negative effects on my online character?

You don't end up with identical plates when buying legitimately.. The fact that you are tracking all plates already suggests issue.

Trust me, everything I have in GTA Online was earned legitimately. I don’t do glitches to earn money, I grind for it.

"Trust me" says Tricky Mario :D

Just playing with you!

So, you've got two cars with the same licence plate, which can only happen if something strange is going on! AFAIK, it's not possible to buy a new car and get the same plate as one already in your collection. But then again, if plates ARE randomly generated upon purchase - when you consider the hundreds of cars that we have in our collection - I suppose legitimate duplicates COULD occur.

Sell the Remus with the dodgy plate and accept the loss. Buy it back and hope it doesn't have a duplicate plate. It may cost you a million, bur if you're legit then this should resolve your problem.

Love the pun you did with my username. 😁

Considering the millions of different randomly generated plates that are possible within the name, the chances of getting a legitimate duplicate plate must be incredibly slim. I guess I just got unlucky.

Legit question, can I get a certified mathematician to calculate the odds of a repeated plate in this game?

27 letters + 10 numbers = 37 characters; 37⁸ = 3.512.479.453.921 if every combination is indeed possible, is that correct?

Well my friend, time to get that Lost Slamvan with this odds.

Question about plates and iFruit. I have a few cars with the same custom plate. After giving them the plate I deleted it from the iFruit app. I then wanted to give that plate to another car, I was able to recreate the plate again in iFruit but the order does not go through to the game. Is this plate or my cars getting picked up by the dupe detection? Could I regain access to this plate again if I change the plate on any car that currently has it? Are there any precautions that I should take?

Dupe detection is not instant, and the frequency on how the game anti-cheat scripts checks for it is based on "CAP_FOR_EXPLOIT_LEVEL_N", also people claim that being reported affect the frequency, some people say that selling a car with a duped plate is guaranteed to get it flagged, but most of this knowledge is empirical, all that we know is that the game checks for all this stuff.

In the past having more than one custom plate applied in cars, and deleting it from iFruit, was 100% guaranteed to get it flagged and the offending vehicles marked as "dupes", I know because I have been though this, and one give away was that once flagged you would not be able to make that same plate again, but since you where able to recreate it, maybe you slipped under the radar or Rockstar fixed the scripts from giving false positives.

iFruit order not going through could be caused by all kinds of problems, the software have not being updated in a long time, and have been broken since. You can ask iFruit to apply a dirty plate and it will comply and apply it, you can ask iFruit to change the plate on a dupe detected car, the order will go through but not change it, you cannot change a dirty plate by any means other than merge glitches or making a new clean dupe.

Signs that your car is dupe detected: sells for less than it should, you cannot change the plate, after you sell it you cannot change plates for any cars or you can only sell n-number of PVs a day.

If your plate is flagged the cars that have it will not be able to change it, if you can change it, they are fine. If your plate was flagged delete the offending cars by overwriting them with street cars if you want peace of mind.

Some cars in your recent list have track wheels which is causing app to crash. One of workarounds is stealing random NPC cars and driving them to empty 10 car garage until that list "refreshes".

Your math looks a little off since there's only 26 letters.

Also I think just R* generated plates would be what should be looked at and not all the custom plates. R* generated plates are always [2 Numbers-3 Letters-3 Numbers]. So I think for those there's 100 possibilities from the first 2 numbers (10x10), 17576 from the 3 letters (26x26x26), 1000 possibilities from the last 3 numbers (10x10x10).

100x17576x1000 would be 1,757,600,000 possibilities for the R* generated ones. (If any mathematician sees this is wrong, please correct it. I've been out of school for 20+ years)

Also that number would drop a little if they block out some of the 3 letter words we're not allowed to use on plates (I don't know of any two or three digit numbers are banned). But I'm pretty sure there's not enough banned words to drop it below 1.5 billion possibilities.

Oh and I noticed this was like 4 months old after writing most of so here it is anyway.

My math is always off, but thanks on expanding on the idea that the occurrence of a repeated plate is low to none.

Just to point out he's not the only one this has happened to, me and another forum member have been keeping tabs on this with checking cars on the street and so on when we are really bored and the repetition of

standard plates on different cars does happen, it's a very unlikely scenario at about 0.01% chance but it can happen.

I have a Banshee that I modified at Benny's a few years ago and then I decided I wanted to  get one in the exact same street colors so I could show 'before' and after conversion and guess what I found out afterwards they both have identical plates plus I know of several other members it's happened to but the odds are I say low a 0.01% chance.

Track wheels are the ones added with the car meet update. They are the wheels in the "track" category when you buy wheels at LS Customs.

How long does probation last? I think I got put on this list because I deleted a plate from iFruit then sold cars that had that plate. Now I can't put custom plates on my cars.

If you are a first time offender like your post suggested, no Custom plates mean that you reached "CAP_FOR_EXPLOIT_LEVEL_4", then "NUMBER_OF_MINUTES_FOR_CAP_RECOVERY": [{"value": 3600}], to lower one level back to be able to have plates back, meaning that your need to play 60 hours without any further infractions to lower your "exploit level" back to 3 where you will have plates again, do not sell over than 5 PVs in one IRL day (24 hours).

Thanks @interloper! Shouldn't be hard to do. Time to grind some LSCM rep, I guess.

And yes, I know how it looks. The funny part is that if I was duping I would've been aware of this. Because I'm not someone who does that I didn't even think about the duping restrictions. It's stupid that a legit user can get caught up in this without any warning. There should've been a warning message on iFruit when I deleted the plate.

This is the side effect of using something like plates for something that they where not designed for, cheat prevention, I have a similar problem where I made in the past a plate with invalid characters that don't render in game, this plate is $$$$$$$$, even that I OWN it in iFruit, the game detects it as a false positive dupe since this plate should not exist, the solution? If I want to get rid of a car with it I just overwrite it with a street car.

This is how it looks in game:

After experimenting with iFruit, I couldn't change plates and couldn't sell cars. This continued for over a month in real time. Although I scammed with plates, I didn't duplicate cars or sell them. I didn't even know that I was "punished". I just had to sell some random car and suddenly couldn't.

In general, it would be nice to introduce some kind of warning system or visible fraud rating/indicator. How am I supposed to guess that the inability to change the plate is a punishment and a hint that it's time to stop? At the moment I don't have client cars in autoshop. Maybe it's also some kind of punishment?
