why is GTA Online disliked by so many players?

Hosting heist is painful: I was robbed by my friend while we robbed other people. He wants 70%, otherwise he doesn't play.
Some missions require 4 players: The host rushes to do all the work, while the other players haven't done anything yet. In the end the host gets paid more than just one player heist.

I dislike public sessions, because of the 10 year olds and the modmenu users, oh yeah and godmode users, and griefers. Sometimes very rarely im lucky and find a public random session with only friendly ppl in it, but it's so rare that it barely happens.

If i just wanna fool around, or do things where it doesn't matter if i get griefed or not, then i play in public random sessions. But if i wanna sell a full nightclub or large full CEO warehouses, i do that completly alone with IP filter on. Ppl with permanent public IP's still can join me, i got 3 ppl on my whitelist with permanent ip's, but everybody not on the whitelist is locked out.

I use that to do that, with an open nat type it works perfectly fine as long as i am host. It's the only way to be 100% safe in a public session.

They know what we wanted, they still haven't given it. A career builder for new players? Skipping the prologue? Ugly new mods for 10 cars? Not enough, there needed to be something truly game changing like streamlined businesses accessable in friends sessions or custom lobbies. That alone would cement players for years. Nope, nothing to show, and now you got people clamoring for your next game. "Oh it's in active development". That's all we get because you know not to try and wrestle away money from the real reason you haven't made a new GTA in almost a decade.

El Diablo 702

Why is online disliked?  It wouldn’t be the fine helpful community of friendly players or the fact that most of the businesses “must” be played in public lobbies with said friendly community would it?  Nah R* created one of the most vile, hated communities in the entirety of online and apparently they don’t care, look at the sinful place to see the vast amount of god mode glitches along with other exploits that R* has let run rampant for years but god forbid that cop outfit will break the game and must be patched now and I don’t want to get into the utter bull sh*t pc has to deal with.  If online is hated there’s a reason an that reason is in plain sight for everyone to see.

This game is full of people who are either idiots or trolls.    You'll be doing missions or heists and texts on screen could clearly read "STEAL a vehicle" and instead these noobs blow it up, failing the mission.

This guy is onto something, although as a high rank high experience player I understand that not everything is what it seems in game. Take this clip for example.... All I say is Lester does give the heads up "if you try really hard you can make the truck teleport with your mind". And by trying really hard he means not to shoot at anything and everything that has a red blip. I'd say that truck was well and truly hijacked, no? 😂. You get the idiots want to stand on the bridge sniping at the savage type. The go all guns blazing steal the insurgent type. The bring own insurgent and proxy mine the whole road type. The bring batmobile and blow everything including the truck type. And the rare few.... Hey lets just chill in this car and see what happens cos they know what they are doing type. Idiots be key word on GTA.

How convoy should end!!!?

I think a lot of it, especially with Online is a combination of frustration with Rockstar/Take2 not fixing very well known problems that have existed for a long time, some since launch in 2013, them adding in vehicles and modes in the DLCs that play to the benefit of griefers rather then against them, and just a seeing a whole load of missed opportunities to improve the game for the better just so they can make more money selling Shark Cards.

Some particular points that irk me personally:

  • The crappy character creator with the whole parents system, most of which are ugly AF, which means that you either end up with an ugly character yourself, or some very similar looking characters because only a few options allow you to make a good looking character, even Saint's Row 3 has a better character creator and it released in 2011, 2 years before GTAO.
  • The needlessly overpowered vehicles or modes, like MK2 and the Orbital cannon, they just play into the hands of griefers and we really didn't need them.
  • The mindless grind, you can't just spend a few hours and earn a decent amount of cash doing what you prefer that particular day, because with the ever increasing price of cars and properties each DLC, it's too inefficient, there's just the meta, currently solo Cayo Perico, rewards from older content does not compare, nor can you run those solo if you want to, and at the end of it all you're still running Cayo Perico many times back to back just so you can buy most (but not all) of the new DLC content, the reason for all this is simple, to promote the sale of Shark Cards, cause why grind for hours and days, when it's just much easier to pay for that stuff.
  • The abysmal attitude towards PC, there have been cries since launch of GTAO that we needed dedicated servers and proper anti-cheat, and we got exactly zilch on that, which just leaves a mess I'm avoiding by blocking certain traffic between me and Online so I end up in a solo public session so I still have access to things that only work in a public session and not in invite only, downside I can't play with anyone else at all even if I do trust them.
  • Over time the map has become rather stale, the players know every corner of every street, usually better then their own hometown, GTAO has been live longer then it was in development by at least 4 years now and has had a dedicated development team since launch, separate from the GTA6 team, and while we did get a lot of DLC's, but most of those made either use of existing interiors or added new ones that were not very large at all, but never did we get any sort of large map expansion that truly built upon the world, ya we got Cayo Perico, but that's instanced for the heist and it's preps only, full of angry armed guards, and in the end is no bigger the peninsula that LSIA (Los Santos International Airport) is situated on, nothing the size of the current map, they could have added say the northern part of San Andreas with San Fiero and surrounding towns, equal in size to the southern part of San Andreas that what we have now, that would have breathed new life into the map, but apparently that's either too much effort, costs to much to do, or they are limited by console hardware, or a combination of several of them.
  • The unsupportiveness towards the modding community, GTA5/O has one of the biggest modding communities in gaming, instead of embracing that and giving the modders tools to make their life easier they do the opposite, Take Two (not Rockstar) treats the modding community with disdain, sees them as competition to Online and their Shark Card sales, even though the huge majority of players that mod their game and/or play on private servers would never play on Online to begin with nor ever buy Shark Cards, but every once in a while they try to kill the modding community, and then Rockstar has to reel them back in and explain again that a lot of the continued popularity comes from the modding scene.

And I can mention much more, fixing bugs that have been present since launch, car rebalancing, more creative use of features and interiors, updating the world with the passage of time, etc.

It all comes down to while Rockstar has given us a great virtual playground to mess around in, and update it regularly, it's poorly maintained, and Take Two's heavy push towards Shark Card sales to detriment of earning cash and rewards through actual gameplay annoys many players who want to see the game do better.

It's not that "so many players" hate GTA Online. Players are too busy playing the game to hate it enough to complain about it online or are just contacting customer support whenever they have a problem. It's why, regardless of how "vocal" the malcontents are about the game, people are still playing it like crazy, are still buying it, are still even purchasing Shark Cards.

The issue is that we used to have "real" fanbases at one point expressing themselves online and then over time, every fanbase community started getting overrun by neckbeards, so that it looks like the entire fanbase is bitter and angry. I know this for a fact, because part of so many fanbases for so long, I have seen every single one of them start out relatively "normal" and then get taken over by the same neckbeards who just start bitching and complaining about EVERYTHING, whether we're talking video games, comic books, sci-fi, TV and movie franchises, even radio talk show hosts.

spacer.png

Neckbeards are so consistent in who and what they are that it's almost as if they're going by a script whenever they hijack a fanbase's stomping ground:

1. There is always one villain to be named and shamed--an executive--who is single handedly responsible for destroying something "the fans" loved and deserves to be doxxed, threatened, or lives otherwise ruined, almost invariably female but not always. (Kathleen Kennedy/George Lucas/JJ Abrams, Star Wars; Brannon Braga, Star Trek; Beth Ostrosky/Marci Turk, Howard Stern Show, etc., etc.)

2. The corporate entity that owns, develops or distributes the IP or franchise is ALWAYS the textbook definition of a mustache-twirling capitalist evil in its purest form, straight out of Mr. Potter from It's a Wonderful Life or Montgomery Burns from The Simpsons. EA is evil, Disney is evil, Microsoft is evil, Ubisoft is evil, Sony is evil, etc. Everything is an evil money-making scheme; everything is designed to milk fanbase out of their life savings. Any new transaction is screamed at as just another example of fans being "screwed over." Howard Stern is moving to Sirius? Screwing over fans. Sims 4 has a new type of DLC? Screwing over fans. Disney moving over to its own streaming service? Screwing over fans. Shark Cards? Screwing over fans.

3. Lots of emotionally-tinged, borderline psychotic expressions of pain, rage, etc., as if any change is affecting them on a deeply personal level. Everything is an "insult to the fans", "slap in the face", another case of being "screwed over", a sign that "they don't care", etc. Everything is an overreaction.

4. An extremely narcissistic tendency to not understand that there are multiple issues to be dealt with at any given time and multiple fan wishes to be fulfilled at any given time, and that just because theirs wasn't fixed or addressed right away doesn't mean they're being ignored.

5. Creatives responsible for storylines, art, etc. are constantly maligned as stupid, lazy and disrespectful--and of course, this can be proven by the amateurs on the web who can do what they do better (popular fan fiction writer, YouTube game reviewer, popular game modder).

Making matters all the worse is Hate Bait on YouTube, where there are mouth breathers deliberately whipping fanbases into a frenzy for views, always spreading negativity--always spreading FUD--where they get to position themselves as a type of Howard Beale type speaking "truth to power" to their mindless followers.

The point is that don't be fooled if you're seeing a lot of complaining, raging, whining and hating on the forums against GTA Online. Go to ANY forum of ANY IP or ANY franchise and you'll see the exact same contingent making the exact same complaints using the exact same over-the-top language attacking the exact same targets in the exact same way. And there's usually a YouTuber they all follow who pretends to speak for them but is the one teaching them how to feel and think.

1. Griefers and cheaters.

2. In-game economy is an insult to any functional adult.

3. Wait times to do anything outside the lobby.
