Stoner with a gun Posted May 25, 2003 Share Posted May 25, 2003 I have heard on a few sites that GTA: Vice City runs faster than GTA 3. On my computer GTA 3 doesn't run, it walks, I am having the same problems as everyone else, but it still works, and i only have a 450 mhz celeron, it may sound far fetched but it does. Here are my specs: AMD T-Bird 1GHz GF2 MX 400 32MB with 44.03 drivers <- really good drivers 384MB PC2100 ram crappy sb I can run the game at 1280x960x16 (dont ask me how) with very little lag and its not very often. Even at 640x480x16 and sueing 3 performence enhancers i still get heavy lag and low frame rates. I sometiames manage 35fps but mostly it avrages about 15.But i havent played VC for the PC yeat. Cruising through Staunton Island was like a slide show on my comp whereas Vice City runs like a dream, except when they throw some smoke bombs. I bet the GTA3 engine was very unoptimised. No as the vice engine code is updated just as much as the rest of the game, it had a faster framerate on ps2 too. I bet the GTA3 engine was very unoptimised. Or perhaps it could have to do with fewer peds/cars spawning in Vice City? probably a combination of both, as well as the fact that the game engine now only draws exactly what you immediatly see in the game window. GTA3 ran and was playable on a celeron 1.2 with 512MB ram and tnt2 card(my old computer). i tried it on that computer and vice ran reasonably smoother.. at least better than GTA3. and then i ran it on my new p4 wit Geforce 4 440mx and vice ran at around a constant 70FPS at 800*600*32 so vice is just more efficient Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Stoner with a gun Posted May 27, 2003 Author Share Posted May 27, 2003 It would help if you told us your RAM, video card, etc... it ran with 64mb of ram!! well more as Watashi said it was like running a slide show, but i upgraded to 256 mb of ram and it was like a dream, with a heavily modded to help the fps version of gta3, it ran at about 10fps! plus....ok 450 celeron is old........why dont you just upgrade? Well theres the problem of money. The problem is I don't have any. At all. WooFer Posted May 27, 2003 Share Posted May 27, 2003 if we took the replay out of Vice City would it run even better? because i remeber a very big topic about this in GTA 3 that some guy disabled it and it worked much better, but everyone was bugging him so he never realised the patch. and who really uses this crappy replay? I know the feeling of having no money or job, only reason I have VC is because of a $25 gift card from Circuit City I got from a web site (one of those get rewards for reading email things) and birthday money.
