Latch45
I remember that in the PS2 VC you used the target button to threaten the cashier. But in the PC version, all aiming is done manually, at least so far as I know. The closest thing I could see to a "target" function was the right mouse button, which doesn't do it. This leads to dumb situations where I walk into a store with a gun and stare blankly at the clerk; he hits an alarm after several seconds, I kill him, and reap no benefits whatsoever. So: does anyone have any idea how to "target" the clerk and get him to pay? Thanks in advance.

Vicetopia
Go into a store (Jewelery store, pizza joint, etc) with any type of hand gun that can target. Then, auto-target the register guy and you'll get money. WARNING: Once you hit 3 stars, you don't get any more money. Once it hits 3 stars, haul ass. AxER
Once it hits 3 stars, haul ass. Or stay in the shop and use the counter for cover shooting the cops when they arrive...however the alarm will get really annoying.
Shaka
The laundry shop on the second island is funny to knock off what with the clothes lying around there hehe
Minigun_Fiend (FK)
I had the very same problem. I don't know what you lot are talking about when you say 'Auto-target'. Do you mean you can simply pint the gun at the clerk wioth the mouse and he will hand over money? Also, what a dumb thing to do to say that you can target with the mouse and keyboard in the manual AND in the options menu when you sooo obviously can't. Great game, though... Vicetopia
You have to be under Classic controls I think. It's under the controls as "target". As far as I know, if you're aiming with the mouse as you play, it won't work..
ILuvTheFaggio
No Vicetopia, its not "Classic Controls" or anything like that. To hold up a store/store owner, all you have to do is point your Manual Crosshair at the owner. The PC Version doesn't have an "Auto-target" system. GTAIII didn't either for the PC. So this post should be complete with thine knowledge. P.S. I love the Faggio!!!!! Heheheh!
Latch45
Okay, I tried everything everyone suggested: you can in fact use the "Classic Controls" function to aim at the shopkeep. I still haven't been able to get him to pay by just pointing the aim cursor at the clerk, but popping into the option menu and turning on "Classic" for the thirty seconds it takes to rob the place works just fine. Thanks for the input, everyone.
1shot1kill
There is an aim button in the normal controls too, i believe it is the right mouse button but im not totally sure and can't check right now as i am at work but i use it sometimes to switch between targets when fighting the police. It's also the only way to have a store owner give me the money.
