I'm very new to GTA Online. I've never played any GTA online before. I'm trying to get my strength up so I can't be killed so easily. There are no cows so I can't kill cows, and I cannot find any tennis courts or golf courses. I also have no friends who play online so I have no one to drive a car for me to attack. How in the world am I supposed to increase my strength? Thanks. I'm very lost so far.

Which platform are you playing on? Also, where are in you in the world? Someone might be able to send you an invite and help give you a start

Climbing on the top of a bus driven by a NPC and stomping the roof.

Or starting Pier Pressure and punching NPCs, the player cannot be wanted during that mission.

You should also take a bicycle and paddle around, maybe collecting some of the things that way...

Pier Pressure job and beating people on Vinewood and at the beach is best for strength.

Thank you all for the advice! I should have mentioned the platform, it's PC. I live in the Midwest of the US.

What worked for me in SP was standing in a boat driven by an NPC and kicking the boat. If the NPC jumped out, I’d find another one

Spoiler

Try the spoilered tutorial - it's gonna take a bit more time and effort to set up than punching buses, cars, or beachgoers, but it'll provide you with a steady stream of suicidal NPCs to punch.

I used to do something similar with the Capture Creator, and it worked for me - so I reckon the linked method should work for you as well.

By the by, I don't think strength will help you much in gunfights as much as it will in fistfights (somewhat rare), but it will let you jump down from bigger heights without falling like a ragdoll midway through.

What will help you more in gunfights is player health - which increases every 20 levels up to lvl 100.

Strength doesn't affect health.

It does help to know health doesn't equal strength. How can I level up? I'm flailing in the dark here.

As far as i know health increases by leveling up and will be maxed out for you at level 100. Doing races, missions, escaping cops and many other actions can give you exp and is helping you ranking up in levels.

A very helpful knowledge ressource regarding GTA Online is the english Wiki and the interactive GTA Map to easily find whatever you are searching for - f. ex. tennis court.

climb ladders faster, do more melee damage and can fall longer distances before "flailing" and ragdolling. You might be a bit more resistant to damage, but that might be SP only

Im pretty sure strength really only affects unarmed, melee damage, arm wrestling, tennis and golf proficiency.

How do you improve strength other than killing other players/npcs with you bare hands btw?

Back in the day (read: eight years ago), here's what I did to get the skills up for my original character. There are probably up-to-date options these days, so Google / YouTube is your friend there:

Stamina - steal / buy (haha) a bicycle and ride around the map, using the 'sprint' as frequently as possible. The more miles you cover, the faster your stamina increases.

Shooting - boring / easy option is to go to the shooting ranges in Ammunation and keep completing the challenges, especially using automatic weapons. Easier options exist if you've got friends.

Strength - start a job / mission where you don't get a wanted level or have a time limit (I used a land race set to GTA mode) and simply punch NPCs - I used to start a race near to the beach to allow for consistent spawning of pedestrians (also you earn money & snacks from the people you knock down)

Stealth - enter sneak mode and walk around. Simple. Take a hike up Chiliad whilst sneaking and you'll probably max the skill before you reach the base.

Flying - I'd recommend going to Sandy Shores airfield and acquiring one of the 'planes that spawn there in freemode, or you can start an air race. Then you should follow the runway and throttle up to take off, fly for 2-3 seconds, then throttle down to land smoothly, coast for 2-3 seconds, and then repeat. Each time you complete the cycle (especially if you're moving in the direction of the 'landing lights' on the map) you'll increase your flying skill. Also you can fly underneath bridges / arches.

Driving - quite easy, just drive without crashing, and complete Stunt Jumps. Also landing any jump without damaging your vehicle increases your skill.

Lung Capacity - cheap option, go to any body of water (ocean, lake etc.) and submerge yourself until you're about to run out of air, then surface, and repeat. Easier but more pricy option is to buy a scuba suit or rebreather, wear it and submerge (you don't need to worry about surfacing this way).

Incidentally there's a summary here: https://gta.fandom.com/wiki/Skills_in_GTA_Online

There are tons of threads here full of money making tips too. Find the golden double action revolver, navy revolver, tomahawk and all of the playing cards, action figures, bounties, etc to build up funds.

Do. Not. Buy. Random. sh*t. Yet.

Save up 2 million and buy a Kosatka then run Cayo Perico solo. Again, tons of tutorials here and elsewhere to figure that out.

Run it twice and you've made back what you spent on the sub. Everything else you make is just gravy at that point.

Sports will do it. Golf is best because you don't need another player. Length of game doesn't matter as you get the same increase whether you do 9 holes or 1. Set it to only be the 3rd or 6th hole and you can try for a hole in one while you're at it.

But the best way is to start the Contact Mission 'Pier Pressure" and run up & down the boardwalk punching NPCs. The area around the muscle beach is best because the roidheads tend to fight back and can take more than one punch. You can't get a wanted level in this mission and when you're done you can complete the mission and get paid for your trouble.

Both methods are stunningly boring and time consuming, but once it's done, it's done.

Ye, keep sending newbies that don't know the most basic mechanics of this game to Cayo Perico. Added benefit of realizing that they just did the most profitable thing in this game and everything else earns less, so there is zero sense of progression. 👍

You can't buy levels, experience or skill and there's more to the game than making fake money to buy fake things but you do you boo.

For the Driving stat do stunt jumps and drive in the opposite direction to the traffic while doing near misses.

For Stamina ride a Bicycle.

For Stealth use a "rubber band" to keep yourself moving in circles in stealth mode.

For the Flying stat do the Flight School content in the airport and or fly upside down near the floor.

For the shooting and strength stat do this:

Get a friend to go to the Binco Store in Little Seoul / South Rockford Drive, ask him to go to the closet in the back and scroll the menu, if possible "rubber band" the controls to avoid AFK kick.

Now get into the store with a Motorcycle, and you will receive a message that the store is closed, this will enable you to use guns and such inside the store.

As long your friend is in the clothing menu he will not be harmed, and you can punch him for strength, or shoot him for the shooting stat.

Doing anything that scare the Binco worker, will kick your friend out of the menu, so for shooting you need silencers, also don't shoot the walls, as the bullet impacts also scare the lady, for the melee bare fists only with your back to the mirror to stay as far as possible from the worker lady.

Go to the casino once a day, and spin the lucky wheel, you can get free cars, clothing, RP, money and casino chips there. If you get the 7500 RP, you most probably level up a few times.

Buy the Annis Elegy RH8 (Nissan GT-R) for free, so you got a basic good car, drive around the whole map with it, to increase your driving skills. You can buy the car for free on " legendarymotorsport" or "bennysoriginalmotorworks", on your phone.
