digitoor
I heard Lamar said 'That's that paiyow' a couple of time after Franklin ask him about weed. What does that mean ? Is it some kind of weed or marijuana or something ? I'm no expert in English and no expert in weed as well, so I'm confuse right now. I tried to googled it and the only meaning I found is from urbandictionary.com, it says 'a subtle phrase said...or yelled...when you see a fine -ss b-tch, to let others know to check her out without her knowing if she overhears.' Is it the meaning of this word or there are other meaning ? Edited January 6 by digitoor
Cutter De Blanc
I was under the impression it was kind of an onomatopoeia means it hits you hard, like "pow," only bigger like "paiyow" Spider-Vice, digitoor, Shiloh Comes and 2 others

God-eater
@Gridl0k & @IceDree, if I were to get meta about it, I'd say it's meant as a taunt against Muslims, on the grounds that Merryweather are a PMC and would've been hired by the government to do work in the Middle East (a la Blackwater). So the idea is that Merryweather are stereotypical racist jar-head assholes. Possibly amusing if the player is neither Muslim nor in the US military, but pretty offensive if they are either of those things. But GTA has always leaned hard into offensive and inflammatory stuff, so this isn't exactly off-brand for them. Oh, and "paiyow" is definitely Lamar-ese for "pow". OGSkunkage
The way he says it would suggest to me that it’s a strain he’s cultivated and given copyright infringements that go on in the cannabis industry he couldn’t very well say that’s that zkittles Edited January 8 by OGSkunkage
UncleScrooge
Contextual translation from ghetto English to simple English: “That's that paiyow” -> “that’s something I/you want to try” Generally said in a sexual context, where “try” would be substituted for “hit”, i.e “hit that”. Lamar is playing on the word hit and using it to refer to a hit of weed, which is typically one inhale. Basically Lamar is saying the weed is good and Franklin et al should smoke it. What does that mean ? Given the only results from a Google searched yielded the Urban Dictionary definition of pointing out an attractive girl and this song, I'd wager it's the word "pow" (as in the sound effect of getting physciall hit) pronounced with a flourish in written form. So when it comes to the way Lamar uses it when talking about his own brand of marijuana, imagine this video condensed into a single exclaimation. And... given that the only result yielded from the internet are a single entry on Urban Dictionary, one song and this very thread - means Lamar's social media ability of associating "Paiyow" with LD Organics is ripe for the taking. Can't speak for US servicemen & women, but I find it very funny lol. It makes no sense whatsoever, a'salam alaikum is an Arabic greeting, equivalent to hello, aloha, howdy & whatnot. If I'm about to shoot someone, I won't yell Hello! well, maybe say hello to my little friend lol, but its pretty far fetched. Its just ignorance of foreign languages. Plus, I doubt R* can come up with something original to offend us, perhaps young western muslims & those who dabble in identity politics, but us Middle easterns have heard it all by now ... I always understood it to mean "peace be upon you", hence @Gridl0k's "confusion", since it's hardly something you'd say to someone you're about to shoot. But what I was referencing was an old military habit of painting insults or greetings on bombs, combined with usurping the phrase to use as an insult (which, of course, makes little sense unless you're saying it to a Muslim or Arab, which our characters, being technically American, would not usually be the case). In any case, I don't think it's so much R* trying to offend us as it is that particular NPC trying to insult our characters in a manner in keeping with his theme (ie a US military guy who has operated in the Middle East). All the NPC's have group-specific phrases they yell at us, tho, so this is just one more of those. Kind of like colour commentary to make us feel better about blowing their heads off. Personally, it doesn't offend me one bit - this is GTA after all, so we all knew what we were getting into, and there are far worse things in this game than a throwaway line by some NPC. Plus nothing will ever top "Ya f*ckin' penis!" - I grin every time I hear it. Jamwes and Gridl0k

R* did an exquisite job building the characters of the NPCs & making them authentic with touches like this. I never fully appreciated it until I played NFS Heat, sh*tbird seemed to be the only curse word in the police's limited vocabulary. Although they fumbled this itty-bitty one, its still pretty funny. 36 minutes ago, God-eater said: Kind of like colour commentary to make us feel better about blowing their heads off. It makes sense in a Merryweather racist meathead context of: "I assume you are attacking me because you are a terrorist. All terrorists are from the Middle East. Therefore, if I say a greeting in your language you will think I'm a friend and will hesitate for a moment, which will give me an opportunity to shoot you first." It's the old "Don't shoot me, I'm on your team" trick. By the way, is this new dialogue as of this update? I don't think I've heard it before. Sam2150AD
One thing that always bothered me about GTA V is I could never really understand what Franklin or his friends were saying or talking about. I remember an episode of Family Guy where Peter and Lois were talking about an album/reading the lyrics of an album and then Peter says "Oh hey, there's a translation for white guys". I genuinely feel for me this would have helped and eventually I had to get a friend to come over as I was playing to tell me what was being said. *It's not my intention to insult anybody by the above post
SebKle78
I think it's just about buds. Seemingly same level of comminicative play like "Politically incorrect racial epithets". Semaj 2JZ♢
Imo, it's just an exaggerated way to say "pow". Like he does with snitch and says it like 'snee-i-itch'...he does it with "bitch" and a couple others. Kind of like a dialect akin to the way Snoop Dogg says certain words. If you know, you'll know. Highly unlikely to be anything remotely offensive or insulting.
