Brightness Problems

Ah, alas, the long had problem. My computer (which I bought 2 years ago), is working fine. However, the monitor is not very good, and is darker than many other monitors. I have a program called GammaLaunch, but apparently some games override the settings, and therefore cannot be increased, as does Vice City. My brightness in Vice is at the highest the ingame menu allows. Anyone know how to edit the files to make it brighter? Or maybe a program that actually works with this particular game? Thanks, I'm stuck on the Malibu Dance Club mission where you have to holdup the bank, but I can only see blackness 75 percent of the time, making the mission nearly impossible.
