Unspoken OH
First of all I know upgrading is not technically possible but I could buy the game again, right? If I get the Standard edition on PS4 and then later purchase the Ultimate, will everything still work, my save games, all progression and will I receive the ultimate bonuses? Will I have to reinstall the game? I'm asking because I got the standard edition for free, for PS4, from a friend, but I want to buy the Ultimate edition later. So, can I claim the standard edition with my Rockstar account linked and then get the Ultimate later without any issues? Thanks in advance. subvod
Yes. I bought the standard edition earlier this year. Bought ultimate and redeemed the code in the Rockstar Launcher, still playing on the same saves. It's seamless, no reinstall needed.

I'm glad it worked out for you on PC though.

It works the same across all platforms. Sorry, as I didn't make that clear.

I just tried it. Got the standard and PS Store says the Ultimate is not available for purchase because I already own the standard one. Damn, this is stupid. I did the same even on XB1 and all it does is unlock the DLCs. The content comes with the game installs, each player just needs a token to unlock and enable it. I was under the impression that the PS4 port worked the exact same way. Maybe an issue with the PS Store?

This was posted back in 2018: https://www.gosunoob.com/red-dead-redemption-2/rdr2-upgrade-to-ultimate-edition-can-you-do-it/ He doesn't explicitly specify the platform(s) affected, but I can attest "upgrading" to Ultimate Edition worked for me on PC in June of this year (and XB1 in October of 2020).
