I grew up in Los Angeles as a 90’s kid and a huge hip hop fan. A lot of the music reminds me of my roots. I always have had a soft spot especially for 90’s west coast rap aka G-Funk. The whole game kind of seemed like a dream come true game for me when it came out. Vice City is a close second. I love 80’s music and grew up on it as well. How about you guys? GTA V moreso for the in-game original soundtrack than the actual radio songs, though I think those are actually quite great too. Especially the rock and rap stations. I think Tangerine Dream, Woody Jackson and The Alchemist absolutely killed it with the original music for V, and I've always felt like it doesn't get the love it deserves. sabitsuki Posted December 13, 2021 Share Posted December 13, 2021 SA for pretty much the same reasons as you, though I'm personally not a fan of 80s music. IV and the episodes for its expansive variety of genres while keeping a mostly darker edge and aesthetic to fit the setting, and for having some of the best-written satire and jokes that still hold up today. It's pretty amazing how the radio can move from Minnie Riperton to Agnostic Front to Aphex Twin in a heartbeat. V had a "softer" soundtrack compared to the other games, which makes sense considering the setting but the music does get really grating after a while. I like how they hired local musicians from Scotland and even had a couple of employees of their own perform some songs there. IV, TLAD and TBOGT have great OST by R*, even though I haven't played any of them yet. From theme songs to loading screen jingles, from mission passed tunes to pause menu music. Everything has top-notch quality.
