So i guess there will be new stations? We were shown Dr. Dre, Franklin being a producer, DJ Pooh, some celebrities will be from the oldschool posse...

Will be anything else than just hiphop?

It looks like other existing stations will be updated too so I'm actually curious to know what will be added and which stations will be updated. The new station is advertised as eclectic interestingly.

I'm going to guess that the existing radio stations that are going to be updated are Radio Los Santos and West Coast Classics, obviously, and maybe The Lab, iFruit Radio and Media Player too.

 

I wouldn't be surprised if the new "eclectic" station turns out to be hip-hop based as well. They better bring over the post-Cayo Perico Heist radio stations over to singleplayer, at least.

If they update Radio Los Santos, WCC and The Lab, then they should have enough stations to then split GTAV and GTAO apart, especially if they're adding one or two more on top of that ala Cayo Perico.

Unironically hoping for East Los FM to finally get some new songs this time around, pretty sure it's one of the two Radio Stations (alongside Soulwax FM) that never got new songs added either in the next gen re-release or any of the posterior Online updates.

 

Seriously, give us some Selena, Santana, Maná, Marco Antonio Solis, Luis Miguel, Vicente Fernández, Los Ángeles Azules, La Sonora Dinamita, Kumbia Kings, etc...

 

I mean, for a Mexican style radio station, there's surely a lack of acrual Mexican music imo.

Already betting on Radio Los Santos and West Coast Classics to be updated with new songs (probably The Blue Ark too since some reggaeton artists revealed themselves to be in the game; who knows if they'll be tacked onto iFruit Radio for all I know), but I wonder if they'll utilize cut songs for WCC (I don't think they would bring back cut songs for Radio Los Santos since they're from 2010-2013, I could be wrong though). Anyways, these were the cut West Coast Classics songs from the trackID.gxt2 in the 360/PS3 version:

Also, I couldn't help but notice the phrasing of this sentence from the Newswire post: "details of an eclectic new radio station from some very special guest hosts." This will be my hypothetical theory, but with the reveal of Blaccmass apparently having a radio station and Bones partnering with Rockstar and NTS Radio for a special broadcast, I wouldn't be surprised if this new radio station was like a "NTS Los Santos" that featured different segments/tracklists and "very special guest hosts" ala Los Santos Underground Radio. I think Bones will definitely be featured in the game and not be part of some one-off live NTS broadcast because on his IG story he posted a pic of the recording studio that was featured in the Contracts trailer before it was released today. Anyways, I hope that this "NTS Los Santos" radio station idea is true because I do like to see eclectic soundscapes across a singe station (again, hypothetical theory, but since the clothing brands Civilist, MISBHV, and Born x Raised are in the game, I think Brain Dead could make an appearance since they have their own show on NTS and are LA-based as well. We'll see if this is true next week.)

 

By the way this might be a reach, and I might be interpreting or reading this wrong, but it appears that Rockstar has recently followed Doja Cat on Twitter (they tend to follow musicians on there and Instagram ahead of the content updates ala Cayo Perico Heist); make do of this information.

Oooh that's an interesting theory. IIRC blaccmass also posted a picture with both the R* and NTS logos, so I wonder if NTS is partnering with R* too and we could indeed have some sort of NTS Los Santos. It would definitely explain why the new radio station is advertised as "eclectic" instead of just hip-hop or rap.

 

Doesn't sound like a reach at all based on the available info but remains to be seen, the Doja Cat follow is certainly interesting too, they don't follow a lot of random people on social media.

Yeah I've been listening to NTS Radio for quite some time, even before they partnered with Rockstar for the Cayo Perico broadcast specials. They have something for everyone for sure, which is exciting because I have no idea how much money Rockstar is dropping for music licensing, and that could cover a decent amount of territory across the NTS soundscapes (lol imagine if they got 5-10 hosts/segments for their NTS Los Santos station). The fact that they licensed Jay Z, Marvin Gaye, The Velvet Underground, King Crimson (especially King Crimson), etc in the last couple of years shows that they are willing to "go there" so to speak. Just think about the possibilities for possible station segments, ranging from post-punk to cloud rap to West Coast jazz to 80s Italian disco to country to 90s indie rock to new age to experimental house to drum & bass to Norwegian black metal to 70s African funk, etc.

The problem was that they crammed songs from very different genres on the same station, thinking 'if the lyrics are in spanish, it belongs here' In the end they made East Los FM a big meme.

 

If they want to barely scratch the music from América (the continent, obvs) they need at least 2 stations: one for tropical/afrocaribbean music, and another for pop/rock. Maybe even add some new DJ's like Gilles Peterson to bring some pachanga to our nightclubs!

Things i'm curious about is what songs will be added to the Replay Editor (and if any of the Tuner's tracks gets added, i'm hoping they clean it up, unlike what they did with Still Slipping's Replay Editor tracks) and what songs will be axed from PS3 era. This might be seen as obvious, but i feel like The Lowdown and Space 103.2 will get a good chunk of tracks removed compared to the rest. Otherwise, i'm very curious about the ecletic radio. The NTS examples are really pleasant

 

Also, side note, but i personally hope they tweak MLR, one of Keinemusik's sets gets cut off at the end

I actually find it disgusting that R* is too cheap to renew the licenses for the songs, and would rather just remove them. It should be as easy as digging spare change under the couch with how much money they get from GTA Online in just a month.

I enjoy this website. Tons of very talented artists from all over the globe. I remember last year Rockstar posted something and told people to check when they did the “The Sound Grand Theft Auto - A Musical History” in celebration of the Cayo Perico Heist releasing.

10th hip hop radio station in GTA Online. Woo hoo. Bet it would be nothing special, not even decent hip hop. Just soundcloud rap. Some new Dre's stuff are might be good good but a lot kinda sound alike personally.

 

I totally get adding hip-hop due to popularity but then opting to add a bunch of other sh*t niche music but not add a metal station boggles my mind. They added some hard rock on the enhanced version of LSRR, but that didn't fit into a soft rock station at all lol.

Tbf, sometimes licensing deals can go wrong because reasons. Maybe the artists or the record companies want way more money than before to relicense their music, maybe they don't want to relicense it at all, maybe the rights to some songs became stuck in legal limbo or are split between several band members or music producers, maybe R* themselves don't want to relicense certain artists like MJ because of bad optics.

 

Not justifying R* being stingy or unwilling to relicense some tracks ofc, but sometimes it's actually outside of their control.
