bought this off steam, cant get it to work now...? also - 512mb resource usage limitation?

bought the game off steam.

initial play was fine but i wanted to look into getting around the resource usage limitation.

game had me installed rockstar launcher and had to sign in to social club to connect

couldnt get around the resource usage limitation problem

tried to undo things but now run into problems, cant get the game to start.

i run start game from steam, rockstar launcher opens up, with a button that says start from steam, and then i get an error message from steam saying app running?

i click stop on steam, tried again and go back to rockstar launcher again, where the button there says start from steam.

i'm getting bounced back and forth it seems.

i have uninstalled both and am now attempting to reinstall gta4 without the rockstar crap.

if that does work - any ideas?

To get around the resource limitation, you need to create commandline.txt file in GTA IV's directory.

 

After creating the txt file, open it and type in (or copy):

-availablevidmem XXXX

Replace the "XXXX" based on how much VRAM your GPU has. You can find out by typing in "dxdiag" on your OS's search box, and clicking on the display tab. It should look like this:

 

After replacing the "XXXX" with how much VRAM you have, save the commandline.txt file and close it. Once you're done with that, bootup GTA IV and it should detect the amount of VRAM you've set.

 

If you're interested, there's more commands you can type in commandline.txt if you wish to further optimize GTA IV.
