A Note/Update from Rockstar regarding the Trilogy Definitive Edition

The only difference i noticed so far in GTA SA are new brighter road textures and less lag on max settings.
But it still has all the mobile stuff. You still can't control the camera while flying, can't sprint faster etc.

 

nice HL1 smoke textures in DE.

Can't wait for it to hit Steam, mainly to read the reviews in the likely scenario of the reception being "Mostly" or "Overwhelmingly Negative". Too bad it didn't coincide with the R* Launcher/console release last year; imagine if the Steam reviews and inevitable refunds lead to R*/T2 removing the DE from all storefronts until they got their sh*t together a la Arkham Knight on PC. It would have been beneficial for everyone, the GSG devs/T2 suits/the customers/etc..

New code base plus pretty much confirmed Steam release...while this update was a massive disappointment, hopefully this means there will be more updates following it for the Steam release. Otherwise it will surely be review armageddon.

Probably the main reason why they didn't even think about releasing it on Steam, they know they'd get nuked to ashes with negative reviews but why would they think differently now? the Trilogy is still dogsh*t to date and a negative review all the way is what it and they deserve.

honestly, im just glad Rockstar Games isnt going Epic Games Exclusive, Steam + Rockstar Games = 1000% win for me.

I have checked the original, and that texture is the same. A parking. Maybe in reality there are a parking there.

New codebase or not, I highly doubt R* will fix the broken art styles of those games - if we'll ever see an update again.

Ok so after a quick session of SA on Switch, the rain is a bit better rendered but you'll be "surprised" to know that the weapon wheel glitch is still there, as is the thunder lightning only displaying in the right part of the sky

I'm actually thinking about buying it, no don't get me wrong I'm not planning on playing that sh*t at all, won't even touch that mf if i had it for free but just so i can download it, run it for a few minutes on the menu screen, exit (now i can give it a review) give that sh*t the negative review followed directly by uninstalling it (gotta carefully cleanse my SSD from any of that filth) and a refund.

 

You know kinda revenge for what they did while giving it what it deserves.

I wonder if there's any significance to the fact that they didn't announce this patch via the Rockstar Games Twitter? 

 

The last patch in February thanked everyone for their patience (despite a much shorter wait than this one). This time only the Rockstar Support account tweeted about it to post the one line of patch notes.

A game company might stab you in the back, Rockstar definitely will, but the fans will never let you down.

Can someone advise please where is the proof that Grove Street Games now gone from this build ? Is it written somewhere or where ? I really hope it is true though.  Hopefully this means someone more capable can pick this build up and start improving it properly.

OR next month for the release anniversary of the definitive (defective) editions.

That's kinda impossible unless they ask everyone to give their copies of the game back and rerelease it later like the previous version didn't exist.

@IzzyBlues Yes I think that's true. They can reduce the damage, but fixing this mess seems to be impossible. I think working on that thing, and trying to fix it, is pure horror for a game developer who has to take over this mess.

I don't wanna get anyone's hopes up... not after a year of nothing... but none of this makes sense. Tez2 said R* took control of the project more than a year ago, but we saw nothing but two or three little updates. Now we see, GSG is not running the project via files, but it is only stability fixes. This is purely speculation but I feel like R* took GSG out of this in 2021, only pushed their post-release updates, and they have been making a big upgrade to do a re-release TDE.

 

But it's just a theory.

In that case, it'll be like the XIII remakester from 2020 that was bad at launch and got fixed up with a patch by a different company (Tower Five) two years later, making it slightly less bad.

They have all the money in the world to do this right, maybe I'm thinking out loud here but nothing is stopping them from outsourcing this mess to Remedy which they should have went with instead of those jokers GSG, since they handed them Max Payne 1 and 2 why not throw in this trash so it can get worked on the proper way? but yeah "proper" was never the intention, it was all about rushing this in any way for a quick buck.

 

Clearly the Trilogy isn't a priority from the start nor do they seem to actually give a sh*t about doing anything real to it even after a whole year has passed but they can still do something about it if they truly wanted, which reminds me of what they said after they were shocked by the fans reaction to this mess as if they were expecting people to say it's all good and said "this does not meet our standards" what the hell happened to that? when do you plan on making this pile of dog sh*t meet your standards? i mean they still didn't even take one single step towards making that happen.

Rockstar didn't hand anything to Remedy, Remedy were the ones to announce the Max Payne remakes, Rockstar had nothing to do with it from the very beginning, except for financing.

The difference between the DE’s development (and by extension, the original Trilogy + Bully mobile ports) and the way Remedy themselves are handling the Max Payne remakes (which is admittedly the best-case scenario, one that I never thought would happen) just speaks volumes about how little of a sh*t Rockstar gives about their own legacy. It’s depressing, baffling, and infuriating. 
 

Incidentally, I wonder how much of the backlash around the visuals would have been mitigated had there been an option to swap between the original and GSG’s “modern” graphics/lighting a la Halo Anniversary. It wouldn’t have saved the DE entirely (it is based on mediocre phone ports, after all), but at least modern platforms would have something that more closely resembles the OG games. Just thinking out loud here.

Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner had similar treatment; High Voltage Software's remaster that was included in the PS3/360 HD Collection was so bad that Konami had a completely different dev (HexaDrive) go back to fix it (although this patch was only released for the PS3 version, IIRC).
