a couple important infos from article regarding incoming updates

We have ongoing plans to address the technical issues and to improve each game going forward. With each planned update, the games will reach the level of quality that they deserve to be.

A new Title Update is on the way in the coming days for all versions of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition that will address a number of issues. We will update everyone as soon as it is live.

Edited by Wesk_

"We will be adding the classic PC versions of Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas back to the Rockstar Store shortly as a bundle. Additionally, everyone who has purchased Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition for PC from the Rockstar Store through June 30, 2022, will receive these classic versions in their Rockstar Games Launcher library at no additional cost. We will update everyone as soon as these are back in the Rockstar Store".

Well that was unexpected for sure...they actually are apologizing? Thought they would just ignore and continue with Online crap.

i honestly did not expect that too

i hope the first title update includes fixes/improvments towards the skybox and weather effects (especially in GTA SA)

At least they're acknowledging it this go around. I don't think the mobile port issues were taken very seriously by anyone but the fans until, well, those same issues made it into these new versions lol. Looking forward to seeing how fast these updates roll out, and what exactly they'll be changing (hopefully not just the bare minimum).

There's a lot detail that needs adding back into the game, aside from just bugfixes. I hope they don't expect modders to do all of this themselves. Unf*ck the bicycle and workout mechanics (we're not on a phone anymore for goodness sake), restore CJ's fat & muscular anims, take a look at some of the models, maybe give them another pass. I pray they commit to truly mending this, but I won't hold my breath too long.

Scary, I was just thinking about how they communicate poorly and how they should make a newswire post. They just did one. I'm a prophet.

"The updated versions of these classic games did not launch in a state that meets our own standards of quality, or the standards our fans have come to expect."

Finally some acknowledgement. Duly appreciated.

The acknowledgement rings hollow imo. They should explain why they released them in a state that "didn't meet their quality standards". It's not like they didn't have access to the games before they hit the release button.

Of course the reason was money - but would be nice for someone to officially own up to it.

Are the classic versions of GTA trilogy coming back to consoles as well or is it just on PC?

They've only stated for PC. As of now.

Didn't expect this.

Now this is a good thing. But why the Rockstar Store only? It's simple, they don't want you to mod it. So don't even think about the games being on Steam again.

I thought everyone who expected an actual acknowledgement because of the state of the releases was a shill and only everyone else who expected them to go into hiding and say "f*ck you" to the fans was realistic? lmfao.

Good to see it acknowledged, it was more than obvious they would go ahead with fixes and improvements to the Trilogy after it was supposed to be one of the biggest remaster releases of the year. And once again gaming communities showing their true colours by harassing developers personally instead of criticising the games, as if that's going to solve anything. Absolutely shameful to be a part of gaming communities sometimes, really.

Great to see the originals are also coming back for those who really want to try them or play them instead. I personally, despite their many issues, have been enjoying the DE's, especially on the visual side (save for a few environment art issues especially in San Andreas), so I will continue playing them and looking out for patches.

Wish they'd talk about the Steam version but I understand they're still trying to milk max profits via Launcher. Probably a good thing that it's delayed in this case though.

What happened to releasing a game when it was finished?

I mean the gaming community has decreased their standards to waiting for patches for some reason. Until this changes I feel like we deserve half-assed releases if we accept games coming out in premature states.

Pretty interesting they did this a week after this was filed and had an argument about the games not being available anymore shortly after the lawsuit.

Pretty interesting that R* also didn't recognize the modding takedowns after literally everyone talked about it, including Forbes.

Patching happened. Back then if you released a broken game, it would legitimately be broken forever. How do you patch a PS2 DVD?

Not to say patches are bad, but it definitely allows for companies to rush releases because if anything "we can just patch it later".

The problem is that Rockstar did not realize (or did?) how big of a mess this was. They probably knew it was broken but not how bad it REALLY was.

Ofc they wont because it'll save their asses from any potential backlash if they actually give an official reason

Lock n' Stock

Not going to lie, I'm very surprised by this. I guess owning up to it is the first step, but I honestly don't expect them to fix much. Maybe the technical issues but not so much the art direction.

They probably didn't know every detail but at the end of the day they were the ones who gave the green light. The problem is that for some reason R* was probably deadly afraid of delaying the releases. I get that this upsets some crazy fans out there but come on, if it improves the quality then feel free to delay it. It's not like people are going to forget about it. Had they given it half a year more it would have released in a way better state.

So you expect me to believe that someone played GTA3, saw the rain clipping through the police enforcer, and thought this isn't a bug? Or how about the rain being f*cked to hell and back?

Rockstar, your bullsh*t doesn't work on me. You fully knew what this release is going to be like and no I don't blame Grove Street devs for this clusterf*ck piece of garbage of a product. I am 100% sure they knew about all the issues but couldn't do much due to how small their studio is and the strict deadline for release.

Only way to make this right is to relist the classics on steam and other stores like psn and MS, drop the bullsh*t lawsuit against re3 team and apologize to them.

What a shameful company you have become. No wonder so many of the original heads have left.

They did have an argument for Hot Coffee, what would be different now?
