SA [PC Settings/Graphics] Certain graphical settings do nothing and they don't get saved [FIXED]

I assume these require a game restart. But a game-restart makes it so settings are lost. Rendering those options completely useless.

Also, a quick note. The game does not load the graphical settings from file when booting up but rather comes up with random settings from memory. Those settings eventually get overwritten when the game is fully loaded.

I've noticed this with all the games. It's super annoying. Though when I used... a different version of the game, there was no problem. Settings saved instantly and stayed. I presumed it had something to do with the fact that on the Rockstar Launcher, you can't launch the games with admin privileges, but in the ... other version, you can.

I don't think it's a permission issue. The files are saved in the Documents folder and I checked with procmon, no issues when the game has to WRITE to them.

Not sure if it has issues when it boots or anything.

The graphics are reset during the initialization of the Social Club overlay, I had to use an exe with the cut out Social Club overlay, the settings are now not reset or overwritten.

Nice find, that's true, I just had my Social Club bring-up delayed by a slow connection and the settings were intact. When it came up they didn't reset because I was already on the menu.

 

So there seems to be an issue with the Social Club overlay where it just overwrites settings.

It could even be related to my save crashes. I'll try launching it offline and see what's up. 

 

If that doesn't work I'll try something else (that's still legal) 
EDIT: I had to some insane stuff with thread suspension and yeah. If you suspend RGSC your save files won't be found by the game and the GFX settings won't revert.

So it's possibly related to my save game crash and the save conflict issue that keeps happening.

Wow, now I can't even move my character, did I trigger some protection stuff?

Yes, there was such a thing, I thought there was some kind of bug in me, maybe the protection really works, because I tried many other files where the SС was cut out and it was the same I could not walk

Hello I currently have the problem that some graphics settings are not applied e.g. car reflections, cloud textures, streetlight quality.

I have already tried to write-protect the .ini files under My Documents, but the graphics settings are still reset ingame.

I have not yet tested whether GTA III and Vice City are affected.

everytime i change something in the graphics settings it resets back to the defaults when i reopen the games. am i the only one? and is there a fix for this?

Not yet.

I'd say it's partially fixed?? I am not sure, the settings are now being saved but the Distance Scaling only affects minor things

Yeah, I'd say this is fixed with potential improvements and clarity to be made.

Distance Scaling seems to only apply for small props and Texture is for streaming not quality.
