Has anyone been able to get to the 2nd island early?

In the old versions there were lots of ways to get to the second island before it was unlocked, even before doing any missions. And you could buy property (the Skumole Shack or Hyman Condo) and save/reload there as well, and complete around 40% of the game before starting missions.

Curious which ways to get there still work in the remaster, or if there's any new ones? And if it's still possible to buy property and save/reload there?

Aren't you supposed to get some wanted stars when you get early in the game to a locked region?

Not in Vice City, they just used gates and invisible barriers, plus the fact you couldn't swim. The wanted level thing was introduced in San Andreas, I guess because of being able to swim and a very large amount of close points between islands.

Cool! I wonder if you can still buy property and save there though?

I didn't bother getting the cash for that since I wasn't planning to do a playthrough yet, but yes, you can. It's just copy pasted code.

Yes you can go there, collect hidden packages, do rampages, buy property, get access to helicopters, do the taxi missions... And yes you can save at the mainland safehouses, which i recommend as you will be sent back to the first island if you are busted/wasted.

Only way I have been able to get there is by stacking cars to the left of Pier 2 to be able to jump over to the outside of the gate though. Tried the ambulance at Pier 1 trick, but haven't been successful at all. Either got bounced back, or wasted.

Good to know! Glad they didn't do anything to prevent it (one good thing about the laziness of the remaster lol).

I always did it by getting a 2 star wanted level, going behind the Demolition Man building and jumping over the water to the golf course in an ambulance, waiting at low ground and stealing a police boat. No glitching or relying on gaps over walls etc so as long as an ambulance can still jump that gap (ambulance works because it kind of bounces off the water at the other side when other vehicles wouldn't) I guess it must still be possible.

Thanks for the info everyone!
