Is it necessary to play Red Dead Redemption 1 to play RDR 2?

I have the Red Dead Redemption 2 purchased, I made it to 20% of the game but I quit.
I would like to know if it is important to play RDR before being in RDR 2.
The bad thing is that I am a PC gamer, I tried to play it with emulator but they say that it cannot be finished, there are errors.

I have an XBOX 360 in my old house, I would have to buy the code or the disk.

It's not. RDR2 does a very good job at standing on it's own. It's also a prequel, meaning it takes place before the events of RDR1.

But in my opinion, playing the games in release order is a lot nicer since you'll catch a lot of nods and foreshadowing that you wouldn't if you have never played RDR1.

Absolutely not, RDR2 comes before RDR1 chronologically so even if you decide to play RDR1 later down the line you won't be missing out on anything. People who played the original have the power of hindsight and we can get nostalgic over all the little nods R* put in RDR2 but as a new player entering the franchise for the first time you'll be missing a lot of emotional context in the original if you play them in order of release.

No, i played RDR2 before RDR1 and i don't think i would have enjoyed it as much if i had played the second one before.

The RDR games are quite flexible, it does not matter which order you play them in. However, if you begin with the first, you learn to appreciate the characters even more in 2

RDR2 into RDR1 changes the entire tone of that game for me. It's very lonely, truly feels like the death of the Old West.
